Overall Reviews at Rutgers University
5.0
Excellent Training for Human Resources/Labor Relations
excellent school, and wonderful faculty and practitioners; the New Brunswick campus is the flagship of the entire University.
I worked there at the School for Management and Employment Relations for ten years and found the students, co-workers to be competent and open.

Very Political
Many of the employees are here to stare at the calendar on their desk that counts down the number of days to retirement.
There is no incentive to perform at a high level and no reward for doing so. The positives are the retirement plan, job stability and employer match, but the salary is lacking and many have a spouse in the corporate world.
My office was famous for the lack of flexibility on work hours. It took 6 months of trying for management to approve a request to move my start time to a half hour earlier.
This is a "crabs in the basket" environment. Fellow employees and even management will pull you down if you attempt to rise up and better your position, even if it's through hard work.

Meaningful and productive workplace
Working at Rutgers offers a purpose in your career. However, with the new integration of a new system there seems to be a lack of training in departments- thus causing a misstep in productivity and accuracy in the accounting services.

Relaxed yet daunting.
A really relaxed yet demanding environment. Need to be organized and maintain an ability to excel. Great benefits, great management, and if there is ever a problem it will be dealt with if upper management is notified.

Great people and culture
Great people and benefits, l feel it has a well rounded culture, However, upper management lacks the insight to use the staff on hand and looks to outside venders to get some work done for 2 or 3 X times the cost.
ProsSteady work week, & plenty of days off
ConsLack of upward mobility

What I learned
I learned to take any project and it was given to me without micromanagement. I appreciated the trust and thrived in an environment that valued my work.

fun workplace
A typical day will include me taking down note, messages from other workers when the boss is out the office and just maintaining her office while she is gone.

It was fun
A typical day at work consisted of office hours and speaking to residents. I enjoyed working with most of my coworkers. Management was informative and helpful.
