Rexel - Company with Culture Problems
Rexel is a very large and cumbersome organization that fails to garner and maintain an effective culture. For the most part the employees are all trying to do the right thing, but there are several shortfallings within the organization that take some time to realize the impact.
Work/Life balance: weekends and travel availability are expected on short notice with little regard for complications arising from these demands. Expectations are not clearly stated at any time and are left vague enough to expect 24/7 availability.
Compensation: Raises are minimal if at all, promotions often do not include any increase in pay. Salary positions do not receive additional pay for overtime, weekends, extended travel, etc.
Job Security/Advancement: Rexel rarely loses employees, for better or worse. The ability to advance is usually curbed by the lack of any movement other than promotion of salespeople beyond their capabilities. Middle-level management seems to produce more middle-level management every few weeks, without attempting to up-staff locations who are in dire need of additional resources.
Management: Says all of the right things, is unable to participate in actually achieving these things due to working on a continuous stream of increasing responsibility. Unwilling to 'get in the trenches' with their employees.
Job Culture: In summary it is acceptable to ignore emails, phone calls, and voice mails from other company employees. Prioritization of tasks is done in a 'p

Always meeting new people, A great company to work for.
Starting my day with transferring phones back to my line. Then I start by reviewing my emails to see who is out for the day and make sure I know who to direct their calls to. Then I review The Rexel Televisions and make sure all the branches have their monitors on and working properly as well as updating any commercials if needed. Next step is to send the DVP an updated report on the status of all Rexel branches. Also greeting Sales people when they come as well processing mail as it comes in as well as outgoing mail. I have learned so much from this company and feel honored to work with my manager who made learning everything I needed to know a lot simpler. The job it self wasn't difficult since I had a patient person explaining to me what had to be done and how. So when the time came for the fast pace and time sensitive projects to be done I was able to handle it. What I enjoyed the most about Rexel is that even at my earliest days till date the people are great to work with and if you need any help or had any questions they still have made time to help. Keeping in mind while doing my daily responsibilities i'm answering a multi-line phone system as well as greeting everyone entering the building.
ProsI've had the privilege of learning a lot from this company and I have met so many amazing people.
Steady work and able to maintain employment, low turnover rate
Although supervisor has been employed for 30 plus years he lacks the knowledge neccesary to be fully capable in the warehouse which leads to his obvious insecurities and resentments towards the younger faster moving employees. He makes every effort possible to make it seem his employment is necessary, through unnecessary efforts of making himself look better by making those that do more look worse. His capabilities are limited but caniving indeed. One can assume the only reason he has maintained his employment is for this reason. Having someone else do everything that he is incapable of while maintaining the illusion of looking busy for management. When management is not around he puts all work on the younger employees as he stands around and smokes cigarettes non-stop endangering those around him.
If it were not for this single individual this workplace would be a desirable location to work at, but his ways of trickery and usery keep others from moving up in the business as well.
All other aspects of employement at rexel have been outstanding apart from this one individual.
At Rexel Inc. a typical day would include following up on shipment information from our vendors and manufacturing plants while providing the most updated shipping status reports to each customer who has live projects going on at that time. As a project manager, you would communicate with engineering firms and vendors to provide change order quotes whether it would be an increase in the customers purchase order or a credit back to them. You would also review submittal packages and conduct pre-order kick off meetings with numerous salesmen and specialists to assure accuracy come order placement. At that time you would navigate across multiple manufacture order entry databases and provide necessary information (customer purchase order, delivery commitment reports, on-site delivery dates) and process the orders that have been turned over by the specialists. Finally, a project manager would handle any and all returns that include freight damage claims and warranty repairs.
ProsMultiple conference rooms to hold meetings, cubicles to over privacy, ability to work remote
ConsLack of compensation, low incentive programs, opportunity for bonuses/annual pay raise
Rexel, formerly known as Ryall Electric,a data and electrical supplier in the state of Colorado
I drove a 26 ft straight truck with a lift gate and delivered product to job sites and warehouses in the middle of the night in the Colorado mountains. I worked 10-12 hours per shift.
I had to be resourceful every night, to accomplish my deliveries in all kinds of weather and conditions. I drove accident free for my entire term with the company.
Rexel bought out Ryall and that's when many changes began. Going from a family owned business to a corporation, resulted in some management issues.
I was pretty much on my own as the Denver based mountain driver working at night and did not have a whole lot of interaction with the city drivers who worked during the day.
My route ran from Sun-Thu, starting between 2300 and midnight. Working at night requires a dramatic change in lifestyle and sleeping habits.
I loved the challenge presented to me on a "nightly" basis. I took great pride in my work and the fact that the customers and the company could count on me to get the job done.
ProsBenefits and great pay, a good working environment.
ConsChanges made when family business bought out by the corporation.

- Management was good full of knowledge thorough and very helpful in my training i had a never ending thirst for knowledge and they were always willing to teach me something new everyday
- Co-workers were tight almost like a family always had a highly competitive atmosphere for clients and orders but at the end of the day we all worked together for the best interest of the customer
- Slow days by far the hardest part of the job i want to be busy helping clients and generating business
- Happy customers after a long day of good business
I was told once that I was the glue that held us together, By my Boss.
I make work like a day at the park you never know what will be in the park that day.Just like you don't know what for sure will happen at work. But you take it as it comes along I have learned that you do have times you need to plan for. Things like the mean old guy always on the park bench,or the food stand to get a cold drink. But if you are anywhere of the things that are apparent in life, the park or work, than you will be able to deal with them in an appropriate manner.I think the hardest part of any job is just getting up to go to work and the most enjoyable part of the job is getting off work knowing that you made a difference and a job well done and complete.
Prosif you are given a lunch, or bonus by the company than it is showing appreciation from the co., inless its a holiday or something?
Consi feel you finish the job or at least get to point safe to stop, if it eats into your lunch a little so what.but i do know we are to take a lunch and break.
Pay is good. But that is not an excuse to destroy the lives of the good workers that give everything they have for the company.
If the company did more actual caring about employees and less talking about how much they respect their employees, maybe turnover ratio wouldnt be so sky high even with that pay. 2 years at the top of the metrics and seen countless people get promoted from outside the company to the positions that current employees have been begging for. For their kids and families to be able to even see them during the week, positions open and they make excuses as to why no one can get into them but outsiders can. Its so overwhelming because of the bonus means so much more to managers because they dont have to be there for 14-15 hour shifts devistating 60+hour work weeks at top speed breaking your back on metrics like robots to see no advancement opportunities. And get no respect but a pizza party like children every couple months.
I worked in the credit department for quite a few years. Management doesn't tend to replace those that leave or that are laid-off. The workload is distributed so much so that employees are over-loaded and over-worked. If you explain this "truth" to management, they mark you as a complainer and it will be referenced on your next review. No pay increases with additional job duties.
I was warned that they burned out their employees and that they had a very high employee turn over. I did last a little bit longer. I believe that the work overload is coming down the pike from the CEO, CFO, etc. Cutting costs is their priority, not the mental health of the employee. Burning out talented employees shouldn't be what a "great company" works toward. Rexel Holdings USA is not considered in my mind to be a "great company" to work for.
ProsHealth Insurance, vacation days and sick days, wonderful 401K match.
The company ran like a well oiled machine. Every worker and every product had a reason to be there and everything became routine. A typical day included receiving incoming stock and making sure everything was what we ordered and if it was all there. After receiving stock, I would multitask between picking orders and putting away the received stock. By noon, I would gather all the picked tickets and organize them in the order of which I would deliver them, I would then create a manifest and deliver the products to their respected businesses. If I needed help with anything, every co-worker would help me without hesitation. Management was very relaxed and I was always comfortable informing management of all news, good or bad and would be dealt with in a calm manner
ProsPositive people, Free lunch once a month, Fun customers
I enjoy working for Rexel, they are a good company,I have been with them for 8 years, hopefully I may continue in Canada when I move there.
A typical day!? I work for an Electrical wholesaler in Colchester in England. WF ELECTRICAL which is part of the REXEL group.
I arrive at the branch at about 6.30 am. To try and catch up on previous days enquires.
I open the branch at 7.30am,the other internal sales team arrive at 8 am. I work on the trade counter serving customers who come into our branch, I supply them with the products that they require.
When I don't have any customers on the trade counter, I then go into the main sales office and assist with incoming telephone enquiries, quotations, locate and place orders when items need to be ordered for customers.
If a customer comes in with problem, I try and solve it, if I have to make contact with a manufacturer I do so.
I have worked in Electrical wholesaling for over 20 years, BUT I AM NOT an electrician, I have worked for WF for 8 years.
I am mainly based on the trade counter alone, I do enjoy the banter with the customers, as at times I may have 3 or 4 people waiting at a time, and I may not get any help from the office, which can get a bit annoying for me as well as the customer, as I don't want to keep anybody longer than needed as they are loosing money!.
We have just got a new Manager (since Oct 2013),which is difficult for him as we are on a new computer system, and there are only 4 internal sales members including myself, and 2 warehousemen in our branch, so when it is required I also cover the warehouse and do deliveries, as well as the trade co
ProsServing customers, problem solving, enjoy working
ConsNo dinner break, locking up late, not always enough time for the customer.
This company is, to my personal experience, so chaotic that any work there does have to put any person who has ever working there under very strong pressure.
The pallets that should go to the rackings as well as pallets that should go to the customers are in very often (if not majority of them) in very poor conditions and sometimes practically falling apart.
The management in this company is, to my experience, practically useless and chaotic to the level that it is, at the very at least sometimes, hardly possible to work for the company at any reasonable level of efficiency.
The management is constantly changing the rules in such a speed and in such a chaotic level that some of the new rules opposing the old ones and employees basically getting such confused by the whole process that they write often do not know how they should perform in the way the company actually want it.
Despite the fact that Health and Safety supposedly have drastic improvement under the new management, it is still at such a poor level that it is hardly barrable. Body work from Cherry Pickers literally falling apart literally by itself (you literally do not need to touch it at all; all what you need to do is just drive the cherry pick and the body work just fall down - they using cellar tape to fix it, which does not work all the time).
I have never received any induction working for the company and I am personally not aware about anyone who have ever did.
Despite of the fact I reporte
ProsNot the very worst pay
