SUMMARY:
The Coral Gables Police Department is a CALEA accredited agency with the mission of providing police services with a pledge of honor and excellence and in partnership with the people we serve. The Police Department has been recognized as a model of excellence in the delivery of local law enforcement services. The Department is responsible for the protections of life and property, providing a comprehensive range of law enforcement services and crime prevention programs. The Coral Gables Police Department is comprised of 193 sworn police officer who serve within the Office of the Chief of Police, three operational divisions and two support services divisions.

STEP 2: APPLY ONLINE
Submit an online application through the City of Coral Gables website. Please be sure to fully answer each question on the online application. Incomplete applications may be disqualified.
STEP 3: SUBMIT A SUPPLEMENTAL PACKET
In order to be considered for employment, applicants must submit a Supplemental Packet to the Human Resources Department within 60 days of their online application. Only mailed submissions. As part of the Packet, candidates must satisfactorily complete specific exams which are outlined in the document titled Instructions for Police Supplemental Packet. Applicants are responsible for exam fees.

STEP 4: ATTEND ORAL BOARD
Applicants who submit a complete Supplemental Packet and meet the minimum qualifications for the position, may be selected for an Oral Board. The Oral Board is a panel interview.
STEP 5: EXTENDED BACKGROUND and REVIEW PROCESS
Applicants who pass their Oral Board, may be selected to move into the Extended Background phase of the selection process. During this phase, candidates undergo an extensive background investigation and participate in the following exams: psychological, polygraph, medical and Urine/toxicology. Applicants who successfully complete the Extended Background phase are presented to the Hiring Review Board. The Board has the authority to approve or reject the hire of the Police Officer candidate.

DURATION OF SELECTION PROCESS:
The duration of the selection process is approximately 3 to 5 months from the date of the Oral Board. Applicants must pass each phase of the selection process to the satisfaction of the Coral Gables Police Department and The City of Coral Gable to be considered for employment.
REAPPLICATION PROCESS:
An applicant who does not pass any part of the selection process and is disqualified, may reapply one year from the date of the candidate's online application.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
Enforces laws and ordinances of the City, County and State. Makes arrests and bookings.
Gives depositions and court testimonies.
Patrols an assigned area on foot or by vehicle. Performs patrol activities, to include pursuing and apprehending subjects, conducting felony stops, conducting teletype checks, controlling disorderly persons, transporting subjects and prisoners, searching for wanted persons, conducting dwelling and ground checks.
Conducts investigations, to include crime scenes, deaths, abuse cases, domestic violence, traffic accidents, animal calls and non police action calls. Collects disposes and secures evidence. Writes reports and processes paperwork.
Performs traffic activities, to include issuing citations, directing traffic, investigating driving under the influence incidents and arranging for the removal of vehicles.
Responds to rescue calls. Responds to emergency situations, to include controlling riots and directing evacuations. Performs first aid duties.
Operates and maintains police vehicles and equipment as required, to include motorized vehicles, bicycles, firearms, radio transmitters, fire extinguisher, protective equipment, intoxilyzer instruments, camera, fingerprint equipment and computers.
Performs special assignments as directed, to include assignments in Marine Patrol Field Training, K-9, Motorcycle, Traffic Homicide, SWAT and Bike Patrol. Performs other related tasks as required.
