Times Opinion is looking for a fact checker/staff editor to work on guest essays and other work produced by Opinion, including multimedia projects.
This role, based in New York City, is a great gig for someone who is organized, is digitally savvy and has broad-ranging interests and great judgment.
You will have a sharp eye for detail; superb research skills; a devotion to the highest standards of accuracy, precision and verification; the ability to dive into unfamiliar material on deadline; discretion in handling sensitive editorial material; familiarity with various social media platforms; and a strong interest in opinion journalism.
You will perform functions that include but are not limited to the following:
Verifying the accuracy of and correcting information in guest essays.
Eliminating errors, ensuring fairness and accuracy, correcting contradictions and omissions, correcting spelling and grammar.
Conducting quick and accurate research to gather and verify facts in news material.
Writing summaries as necessary.
Seeing the work through all stages of the publishing process.
