good
As you rise through the ranks and work in different units, the job becomes better. As a uniform officer you face much adversity on the streets of NYC.

Great place go work for if you keep moving up and learning everyday
I had a great job but I wish the moving up the ladder opportunities came from in house or were easy to get to. The NYPD requires a good place in exams outcomes and then a transfer request and approval from current commands which sometimes if you made yourself an asset for this command... it won’t happen.
ProsUnion protected
ConsDOESNT pick the right persons in upper management

Excellent career.
There isn’t anything you couldn’t do on this Job from being a Homicide Detective all the way to a Helicopter Pilot, as long as your disciplined and patient, there isn’t anything you can’t accomplish
ProsYou control your own destiny.
ConsTakes time and experience if that’s a Con

Great learning experience
While I was in college, I joined NYPD as a Police Cadet. They teach everything to become a police officer. I learned a lot there but unfortunately I couldn’t become a police officer.

My 25 years with the NYPD Terrorism group
Experience supervisor that are willing to train you probably and with patience.I learned interviewing skills from numerous Detectives I have worked with. Management was very well experienced and was equiped with the proper skills to assist the lower patrol and Detectives with investigations. I enjoyed the Brotherhood and support the NYPD had amongst the officers.
Prosbrotherhood
Constoo many issues amongst officers

Great life experience
There is no such thing as a typical day in the NYPD. I have learned how precious life is over the last twenty five years. Management can be demanding and I have worked with some great people. It is very hard when a fellow officer is killed in the line of duty. This is offset by the support that is always given by peers.

Productive
I was able to learn numerous administrative skills as well as how to manage an office. Learning about OSHA and Quality Assurance was a plus. I was able to keep the office up to code.

Questions And Answers about NYPD

Why did you leave your job at NYPD?
Asked Mar 22, 2017
Retired after working with the department for 25 yrs. Of Service.
Answered Mar 14, 2021
Because the Department is run like a circus show. The bosses are cowards and imbeciles. They put plans into place and force the cops to follow through on them without care of repercussions because it won't affect them. Your time on the job has little to no importance what so ever. Quite frankly ... The people and politicians of New York are terrible. You're all willing to forgo the greater good for personal interest. Ask yourself, do you want a safe and prosperous city for ALL of our children or just one specific group?
Answered Jul 30, 2019
If you were in charge, what would you do to make NYPD a better place to work?
Asked Feb 20, 2019
The officers and civilians would be one. We are working for same department and our duties are different but our purpose is the same to provide courtesy, professional and respect. To provide help to the public and make them feel safe as well as resolving issues
Answered Sep 9, 2020
The dept, city and public has drove me to not caring about anything. The crime can go up and I could care less. I’ll get paid and sit back and laugh.
Answered Aug 24, 2020
How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at NYPD? What are the steps along the way?
Asked Feb 25, 2016
Nypd and traffic agent will disqualify a candidate for moving violation. Or receive points in the license.
Answered Dec 10, 2021
Took one week, it’s easy to get on this job. Most other agencies you wait since there better
Answered Apr 26, 2020
What tips or advice would you give to someone interviewing at NYPD?
Asked Jan 21, 2018
Make sure you tell them what they want to hear even if it is not The truth if you tell The truth about everything they will find something they don't like and will not give you the job I know this for a fact
Answered Mar 31, 2020
Carry 10 years all information like resume, traffic history Personal life history involved in policing Driving record And answer the question in a short way
Answered Mar 4, 2020
What would you suggest NYPD management do to prevent others from leaving?
Asked Mar 17, 2017
Stop being idiots. Change the promotion procedures. Anyone can take a test to be a "supervisor" but you can't test for leadership. That can only be guaged by your peers and how you conduct yourself. If the city really cares about it's officers, the salary needs to go up, the hours need to be reduced and show a little care towards cops before the job takes their life or they so tragically take their own. The overall culture needs to change.
Answered Jul 30, 2019
Treat each employee as equals, stop practicing nepotism and favortism.
