Is always fun.
My typical day at work is very busy with different assignments to follow and keep updated, multitask is crucial for my job. I’m usually the first one in the office, once I get there I have to make sure our waiting area is clean and have all supplies for our office and our patients. I start all the equipment and updated the EKG machine. The next is start working on charts for the next week. Making sure all the appropriate documentation is completed, the phone never stop, I answer within the third ring, and patients without appointments always are flowing into our office. I have to make sure to keep privacy and update their information. I work real close with all the nurses, making sure they have all the tools they need, I do all the EKG’s and orient patients to other departments once they are done with us. Is busy, but my days are fun, I love to multitask and make sure all my patients expectations are fulfill. I’m the emergency backup for Patient Access Department; I’m cross trained in all their areas, patient registration outpatient and ER, admissions and birthing center. As for my part time job I’m a safety sitter, I usually work Friday and Saturdays overnight, this position a few years ago gave the interest of becoming a nurse, it did clarified my goals. In Orlando I want to work in my field and to complete my dream of becoming a Nurse. I’m an excellent worker and I encourage all recruiters to check my references. What I’ve learned since I work in the medical field, is y

Sounds good, works out much different.
Working at Novant was one of the things I wanted to accomplish in my life. I was thrilled to get the job, very easy interview, perfect fit for my career path. Boss was, per HR, very family friendly. Either HR was fooled or had their head in the sand. In retrospect, I believe it was the latter. That, or they chose to ignore the obviously reported issues. As work life started, it was good for a while, but was very political and full of backbiting angry people who intentionally sabotaged your training so you fail at your job. Novant is a very intense and high paced workplace. I like to work and stay busy, but Novant takes this to a new level. I was trusted with integral parts of the business, yet I had to punch in and out, not allowed to work one minute over or under time, but was considered "mission critical". This was nothing more than chains and locks, with no thanks or regard for your work. Assumed guilty, never allowed to state your case and punish everyone instead of fix the problem. Horrible people management. Do not join this company. Interview turned out to be easy because turnover is very high due to boss that had serious issues with nepotism. If you love constant changes in the workplace, in bad ways; always trying to figure out where you stand; and mocked up accusations against those that speak up for positive change, then apply away. Otherwise, do not waste your time or talent. Senior leadership is in the dark and has no plans to save anything but money. They pre

People Who Can Separate From Emotions Only Apply
The hardest part of the job was not letting death. of patients from cancer, people discussing thoughts and desires of ending there. lives and injured children in Dept. of Social Services investigations who are recovering, affect you mentally. You work 12.5 hour shifts and are required to work a certain amount of Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in a 6 week period. 12.5 hours are the only shifts you can take unless you are wanting to pick up an extra shift on top of your normal 12.5 hours. Then the rules change to 4, 8 or 12 hours for a pick up shift only. If not compliant then you are fired. During your 12.5 hour shift you rarely get a lunch break and you can forget the two 15 minute breaks they tell you, you will get claimed in the interview. Many of us had to wait to urinate many of days for over 2 hours until a nurse had the availability to help relieve us. I received 3 bladder infections during my 2 years there due to the long wait time to relieve myself. Many of the others suffered infections as well from this issue and when the manager was made aware of this several times nothing was ever done to fix the problem of long wait times to urinate. The best part of the job is the satisfaction in knowing you get to provide protection for injured babies against there parents while the department of social services investigates the parents for abuse and neglect. Knowing the children are safe under your watch as they heal in the hospital makes you feel like you a

Typical Day at Work
Every day at work for me is different, and I enjoy the variety of my role. I may be in clinics meeting the clinic administrators, providers, or the team members discussing practice operations or a new initiative or challenges that the clinic is facing. Or, I may be in operational meetings or sub-committee meetings or construction meetings for new practices or service line update meetings. I have learned that in leadership roles, when team members respect and trust their leaders, the team members are more engaged and feel as if they are a part of the "bigger picture" and take ownership of the success of the company. Trust and respect are earned and not given freely, so a leader must work to gain this from providers, peers, and team members through transparency, effective communication, and servant leadership. All team member must feel a sense of "ownership" in their roles. This will create a workplace culture of a teamwork and commitment to always keep the patient at the center in every aspect of the patient's experience. The most difficult part of my role is managing multiple, changing priorities when information is not shared timely. However, given that I enjoy a challenge and working in a fast-paced environment, and that I work well under stress. I am able to effectively manage and lead through this type of difficult situation. The most enjoyable part of my job is when I have the opportunity to speak quality time with my clinic administrators, team members, and

Good money, Great people, and Lots of Learning
I thoroughly enjoyed working for this company but had to resign due to the hours. I worked on a step-down unit and my management team was hands down the best I have ever experienced. They consistently had an open door policy and were willing to jump in and help out with what ever was needed (even med pass and patient care). The staff was friendly and helpful. They were always there to support each other and help without question. I have made many great friends through my time at Novant. I was a new grad and was taught everything I needed to know to be successful in this setting. The patients were the hardest to deal with due to the fact that they would use profanity, be physically violent and overly demanding. This company strives to provide excellent customer service, but often times this is not appreciated. Due to reimbursement rates being issues by patient satisfaction, the system (and many systems) have to cater to patient's impractical requests. Many drug addicts reside here and even when d/c'd come right back through the ED. There are, as always, many kind patients as well who appreciate the hard work you put in. These are the patients that make it a great place to work. It's a mixed barrel so they say. The pay is more than other area hospitals offer and there is always opportunity for OT. PTO is good and as long as you put in your request in a timely fashion, it is often granted. The benefits are much better than what similar organizations offer and easy to

Senior Material Handler | Kannapolis, NC | Jun 26, 2014
It just depends on your expectations and what you looking for.
I can't speak for all of Novant but i can speak for the logistics center, or NLC. This is where the distribution of all the medical supplies takes place. I have learned every ware house skill possible for a material handler plus a little extra. Management on this level is great you just find yourself feeling sorry for them most of the time because you can see the pressure and the workload taking its toll on them. So much so that the "supervisor to employee" relationship is nearly non-existent. Your all just coworkers. The hardest part of the job would be the hours, compounded with the high expectations of corporate to everyone on our level...and its only our level.. Typically you begin your work day at 2 pm, and you get off when ever your done picking the orders from the hospital. Our end time is usually 5 am. We do this 4 days a week, although we will be going back to 5 days very shortly. Its impossible to keep people on hand because they come in thinking that they will work four ten hour days, or five 8 hour days, like when i was hired. That would be the worst part of the job. The best part, I have to say, are my co-workers. i have learned so much about the world, work ethic, bonding, and food. They always make sure to teach you the right way to do things. And they always remind you that we are all here together and we will get though this together. Just a note, this isn't a place to work if you have a family or are in a serious relationship, or even in college. If you h

Terrible place to work- CBO
Well if you love working for backstabbing individuals, who have their favorites you will enjoy this company. I have went to my supervisor, then to my manager then to the director at the Central Billing Office over an employee who steels time and absolutely does nothing all day. Once I brought this to the attn of the higher ups, I was told to mind my own business and that if they wanted to then they could write me up for presenting the issue in the form that I presented it. More or less I told the director that management needed to do their jobs, now of course they despise me and have no respect for me. I recently sent in a complaint form through the computer but then was told that I needed to talk to my manager about the issue. Therefore I knew that was not going to help me because I had already went through the steps. The issue is that I have a fellow employee who is married but seeing a girl there at the CBO, the IM each other constantly and go as far as talking inappropriately with each other and when I told management to just pull their IM's that they would see I was not lying, I have been treated unfairly ever since. I was told it was none of my business. The Central Billing Office needs for someone to come in there and clean out the place of all the bad supervisors, managers, and director And place individuals in there that care about the employee. If you know the right people and keep your mouth shut they will let you get by with anything, however if you are a hard wo

Should be negative stars
What a joke. Very negative environment. Management if you want to call it that is clueless to running a business. There financial screw ups goes unnoticed while they double your patient load. Lab is accredited but are not following the accreditation rules. Very dangerous for patients and when brought to there attention you feel the heat. The hotline thats supposed to be anonymous IS NOT. My manager told me I called and she asked why while finding reasons to write me up. They lie to cover themselves. Ive seen so many ppl fired from lies it was ridiculous. During meetings your belittled by the director. Horrible horrible place to work. Your worse job is heaven compared to this place. The turnover rate is sooo high and its high for a reason. The sleep center is familiar with the department of labor being called and lawyer conversations. They are used to pay outs and with good reason. Sooo corrupt. Lawsuits never are filed because they pay off the ppl they do wrong to when you bring it to your lawyer. Co-workers are back stabbers. Love to brown nose like its candy. Trust no one there. They never keep prn employees because they realize how much more work they have to do than at there full time jobs. Management talk sweet to you to get you in then once you quit your other job theres no turning back. They use that to there advantage to back you in a corner. By far the worst place Ive ever worked for. Ive learned how to be extra cautious and suspicious of ev

Used to be a great place to work, not anymore
If I would have posted a review one year ago, it would be totally different and definitely better. Novant Health used to be the best place to work in healthcare in my opinion. That all started to change around 2016 with things becoming worse the beginning of 2020; before COVID -19 epidemic. I will agree that the facilities and medical treatments are great & they have some great employees. However they are loosing their "amazing team" due to how employees, including professional RNs, PAs, NPs, MDs, are treated. Novant says that they are dedicated to their team members. I disagree because they are not. Novant says they care but their actions indicate they do not. Novant cares about MONEY; a long way from being a non profit organization with a stellar mission statement. The management is horrible. Employees are not valued. The workplace culture is stressful and discouraging. Promises are made to team members that are not kept. Management is engaging in HR activity that is illegal. To report anything to HR is a joke because you can't get through to anyone in HR. If you do get to talk to anyone in HR they say "go through your chain of command." If your chain of command is the problem, you need to go above your chain of command which is why an excellent team member would contact HR in the first place. Words of wisdom - interview with other health care companies before choosing Novant Health. If you need a job right away and Novant offers it to you, take it but continue looking for

Questions And Answers about Novant Health

How do you feel about going to work each day at Novant Health?
Asked Feb 10, 2017
Dread going to work knowing we’ll always be understaffed and take unsafe patient ratios with lack of working or sufficient equipment and supplies.
Answered Nov 11, 2020
I don’t look forward to it. I am a very happy person and Novant drains that energy out of me.
Answered Oct 7, 2020
How are the working hours at Novant Health?
Asked Feb 25, 2016
For nurses and CNAs they have 12 hour shifts (7-7) but it’s not consistent. Staff can come in for 4 hours and then we’ll be a man down for the remaining 8 hours. Its so hard to enjoy working with such inconsistency and more patients to take care of.
Answered Oct 7, 2020
Working hours are not well organized, not properly scheduled, split in to portions that may please one individual and hurt others, most employees share PRN employment in another place, that most of the time require negative flexibility in working hours.
Answered Mar 30, 2019
If you were to leave Novant Health, what would be the reason?
Asked Nov 27, 2017
Inconsistency of scheduling, understaffed, burned out, management doesn’t care about employees, patients on med/surg end up staying for months, lack of friendliness and consideration from coworkers, etc. I love medicine and taking care of people, but Novant makes an already tough job even harder.
Answered Oct 7, 2020
Long hours, tiring shift rotation, inconsistency with employees, inconsiderate managers, high turnovers, very unfriendly staff
Answered May 9, 2019
How did you feel about telling people you worked at Novant Health?
Asked Jan 11, 2017
I am very proud to say that I work for Novant. It is an excellent company to work for.
Answered Apr 4, 2019
Ok. It is respected

What is the interview process like at Novant Health?
Asked Jul 1, 2016
It's who you know, not what you know that matters for this company.
Answered Mar 18, 2019
Starts with a phone interview from the department director with phone numbers or emails of current employees. Then an on-site interview with the director and then you meet with the staff without the director present.
