A lovely specialty retailer who cares about their associates.
On any given day, I would walk into the store, put my belongings into my locker, and meet the sales lead to discus where we were at for the day. As much as the management wanted to reach their hourly sales goals, they were great coaches about it, as opposed to awful commanders. I would be placed at the register, on the sales floor, or in the fitting room to help the ladies decide what purchase would be best for them. I would have a personal goal of how many Credit Card accounts I was expected to open, and left to work my magic with the customers. A few months after I was hired, I was seasonally promoted to be an assistant manager during the holidays. This was the first time I had made an advance in a retail location, and I was extremely excited. The managers were very welcoming when it came to my training and getting me used to being part of the team. I gained tons of knowledge on supervising a team of associates for a given period of time, and I was allotted a set of keys, and able to open and close the registers on a business day. All in all, working for New York and Company was a wonderful experience. The company keeps their associates in mind whilst making great attempts to reach all of their goals. The management is extremely personable, and openly give uplifting feedback whenever their associates make it obvious that they are doing their best. high turnover, too many employees and managers leaving too often, so the company had to constantly fly in different managers to work week by week. I was constantly scheduled due to being only person available in-case of something with flight, as well as each week's schedule was different with different hours and days so it was hard to figure out how many hours I can handle if I am working on varied hours

• Opened and closed the store, which included counting cash drawers and making bank deposits.
• Helped customers select products that best fit their personal needs.
• Maintained visually appealing and effective displays for the entire store.

• Completed floor replenishment to guarantee size availability and promote customer satisfaction.

A typical day at work consists of greeting customers as they walk in the store. Helping them look for the items they came in for. Notifying customers of the current promotions in the store if there are any. Informing them of the benefits of our private label credit card. Straightening/refilling tables and fixures. Processing freight. The hardest part of the job is handling customer complaints in the store in front of other customers. A lot of times if a customer hears another customers complaint about company policies and they see how management is handling the situation they will make the same complaint or a similar one in hopes to get the same solution the previous customer did. The most enjoyable part of the job is when a customer comes in looking for a specific look but doesn't have any restrictions and gives you free reign to pull together outfits and pieces you think they would like.
Retail job where you work with a small team of very motivated individuals working together to meet and exceed goals. Everyone has each others backs and openly communicate all issues.

ConsHours are not stable, fluctuate from 20 hours a week to 60 hours a week.
Employees were not required to work overtime but would receive lesser hours if they were not available to work off the clock. Upper management, regional and district manager only cared about meeting goals and customer satisfaction and hardly cared for employee satisfaction. Many employees are given the option of advancing by working off the clock or not given any opportunities if their time was limited. Loss prevention is very high rate for a clothing company.

Every day is different at our store. You definitely learn how to deal with many customer personalities. The manager is all about teaching people skills to move them forward. I love all of the managers and co-workers. We work very well together. The hardest part of the job is standing for long hours. The most enjoyable part of the job is helping customers pick out outfits and accessories and working with such a great crew.

They're nonexistent, and while my present manager promised me 25-30, I received eleven OR LESS. They call me in last minute, if I can't make it BECAUSE I HAVE A LIFE, I get trash talked. Looking for new job as I type this. My store is the most unprofessional, disorganized, gossiping, rude place I ever worked and I can't wait to get out! Don't believe them when they promise hours. They harp on credit and threaten if you can't deliver. If you want a tiny side job, look elsewhere because I've only been this miserable at one other place and ghats only because it was an hour away. I wouldn't wish my store on an enemy, if I had one!

Terrible.
When I was working for this company, the amount of hours you worked each week depended on how many credit cards you got customers to apply for. The location I worked at was slow so it was difficult to get customers to apply for the store credit card. Because of this, they gave me very low hours and called me in last minute if I was needed.

What benefits does New York & Company offer?

They provide health, dental and vision they have also added pet insurance (I’m sure that’s because the CEO is obsessed with his dog so he probably voted that in). Also, the benefits will literally take half of your monthly income. So, beware. Very expensive with high deductibales (thanks NYCO). None of which applies to a part timer.
