Great leadership training
the reserves was a good place to begin to develop your leadership skills. I enjoyed my time in the Cadets as well as the reserves and have many skills I took from military life into my civilian life.

I am in the naval reserve
I am the Leading Petty officer, I work and drive heavy equipment such as Forklift's, 15 ton stack trucks. The hardest part of the job is maintaining all of your certification's there is alot of training that has to be done. With co-workers you have your good one's and you have your bad one's. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting everything you are suppose to do done.

good employment
The Canadian Armed Forces (Reserves) provided me with work and social experiences not found in other jobs.
I enjoyed the variety of training I received in weaponary use, radio communications, vehicle operation (wheeled and tracked), personnel training as an NCO / Officer, department management / supervision, etceteras.
Though I did not serve in any "combat" postings in my 12 year career, I learned to respect and help those that did.
Prosfree meals, clothing, lodging, travel, and part-time / full-time work is available
Conslong working hours when on field exercises

Slow to change and very set in the ways of the old culture.
My experience was mixed. With such a large company there are very slow regulations and policies that hamper the growth of the company. Not open to change or interest in creating good lives for employees. rewarding in its own right it was definitely an experience.
ProsGreat benefits
ConsNo family/ work balance.

Extensive travel with unlimited opportunities
After nearly 28 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, I can honestly say it was an experience of a life time that I will never forget and would not change a thing.
You work hard and the advantage of this is the time you are able to spend in foreign countries and enjoy food, sights and culture around the world, the pay and the solid relations built from being with the same people, working side by side are excellent.

Good job to start a professional career
Monday to Friday for the most part, except when in training or deployment but that is to be expected.
Fast paced for the most part but nothing impossible to handle (depending on the job description)

Only you will fail you
Every day is a new day, and other than general duties, you don't know what you will be doing one day to the next. And, you don't know how you will work with or for - you just have to make the best of it. If you put in an effort, you will make it daily. If you don't ask for help when you need it or you don't admit when you make a mistake, you will suffer. Only you will fail you.

Great comradeship but long hours in the field.
The culture shock that you go through scares away some people but once you get past that it is a great experience. Being in the army is being part of a tight knit group of people that in some occasions are closer than family.

Exactly what you’d expect Not a place for whiners
Exactly what you’d expect But not always what you want. You take what they offer.
Not a place for whiners or those people who just want to complain
Definitely not for everyone

Young Man's Game
I enjoyed my career with DND, You have to be very flexible for work life vs home life.
There's a lot to learn and do but in the Trade there are not enough people to do the job.
Montreal has a lot of civilians and their look at the mission first can wait till tomorrow or later.
Prosadvancement opportunity
ConsFamily - personal VS Work life
