Unfriendly environment
I would not work at Sinai again, toxic environment.they do not care for employees. Their goal is revenue, employees are their last in their agenda. Not a good working place

A lot of work, good benefits, no work/life balance
I am eternally grateful to have worked here, as I was able to finish my education and use tuition reimbursement (which isn't much, but helped). Managers really have no clue what we admin assistants do, and there was no work/life balance at all.

I miss working for Mount Sinai
Words can't explain how truly amazing Mount Sinai takes care of their employees. I just wish they could open outside of New York!! Not only did they take care of me as an employee, but the doctors who work through Mount Sinai saved my life a month before being hired. If I didn't move out of New York I would still be there working hard with my team to ensure patient care... And also participating in their yoga classes after a nice long day of work. Thank you for the wonderful experience Mount Sinai!
ProsYoga, great cafeteria food, friendly staff and management
ConsThey don't have hospitals located outside of New York

A great experience
I worked at Mount Sinai as a summer intern, and I found it to be a great experience. I learned a lot about data entry and gained knowledge in fields of science I did not know.

Overworked and Burnt Out from the stress
They make the job seem so easy and just like you can grow really fast but its not. Its hard, you take over 100+ phone calls from rude and obnoxious patients. I counted one day and I had reached 75 phone calls upon working 3 hours (9 am to 12 pm). Employees are burnt out and stressed. I called out 2 days for being sick and they were so nasty about it. Just don't bother working at the ACCESS CENTER, you will be so stressed. You get up to use the bathroom for 6 minutes and you receive an email asking you why you're on a break for 6 minutes when there are calls in the queue. Every department is understaffed. Its just not a good environment, all the coworkers are in cliques and they snitch to management about every little thing just to get brownie points and stay as the managers fav when it comes to PTO requests and getting them approved. If you want a stress free job then do not work at the Access Center.
ProsNothing
ConsEverything, whiny managers, coworker cliques

Questions And Answers about Mount Sinai Health System

What is the work environment and culture like at Mount Sinai Health System?
Asked Jul 12, 2016
My short time working at Sinai wasn’t pleasant at all. I endured bullying, threats, an blatant disrespect from superiors. Unfortunately I was apart of a float pool within Sinai an basically I would fill in short term for departments that needed help temporarily. However, those temporary positions “may” turn into A permanent position if an only if you become the office tattle tale, undermine you’re immediate colleges to appease the “managers”, or if your willing to do your hours & do not socialize, just go home until your next shift you’ll be fine. I’m a extroverted, inquisitive, honest type of person therefore, those restrictions did not work for me. Hence, not successfully passing my “probationary period. After workin for Sinai I began to think all hospital facilities run the same way “every man for themselves” so I have a plan to create a work environment where diversity truly does comes first & the wherewithal to understand that will always be our mission. Thanks for reading add feedback, stay blessed !!!

It used to be great until the new influx of young new RNs came to a unit like the ICU’s that are highly specialized. These young RNs luck experience and commit a lot of mistakes that are life threatening. Most of these nurses do not turn their patients every 2 hours, hence the pressure ulcer develops. They are on social media with their phones most of the time. Yes ,fast with documentation but very poor with actual nursing care. Some surgeons complain about their patient’s care that they do not want their post op taken cared of by a young so called “inexperienced” nurse. When it comes to assigning patients, the sickest one go to the most experienced nurse . So, if you call this feeling being bullied because you came to a work place with inadequate experience, then do it. The preceptors May have played a big role into this failure to properly assimilate with the other staff. Preceptorship should only be given to trained individuals who have a complete knowledge and experience on the job. A nurse who just finished her orientation process have no business orienting a new nurse. That’s a way heading to failure and mistakes.

How often do raises occur at Mount Sinai Health System?
Asked Apr 11, 2018
Social work department had annual 3% raise. However, there is also a 5 level career ladder that you apply for after # amount of years for a much greater raise
Answered Jan 17, 2020
Been at MSSM for 2 years now. Although my performance review / appraisal went very well, I have not had any raise. Every position I had previously offered some sort of raise at the end of the year... Which helped motivate employees to continue giving 110%. Considering how big this hospital is, it’s pretty disappointing.....

Why did you leave your job at Mount Sinai Health System?
Asked Mar 21, 2017
I left for sometime due to relocation, but came back.
Answered Jan 5, 2019
I left because it became too traumatic to keep going to world every day to work for an incompetent supervisor who felt threatened by anyone who disagreed with him. I went from having excellent yearly reviews to all of a sudden having unsatisfactory reviews after he got the position. Taking my conserns to a higher level resulted in the supervisor making it worse for me and I had to leave before my spirit was completely gone. I still have difficulty going in the area for fear of running into him on the street.
