Mixed Bag
I have been working at Molex full-time for more than 8 years Pros: Good pay for entry level, non-skilled, general factory work. Benefits are decent, especially the medical insurance plan. A very clean and safe facility to work in. Even through there are many areas of improvement, the Lincoln campus is world-class in regards to both cleanliness and safety. A competitive six week paid maternity/paternity leave policy. Cons: Very weak middle management who struggle to lead their teams, set an example and shy away from dealing with personnel issues. Good supervisors, on the other hand, seem to not often be truly supported by their superiors and get funneled into the people-pleasing culture of the leadership team. Consistently poor planning, business decision making and people management skills from the top down which negatively impacts every aspect of the campus. Very shorthanded production crews who have little work/family/life balance due to mandatory overtime. Very little appreciation of or attention given to the achievements or sacrifices made by hourly workers, regardless of department or role. In contrast, salaried employees have all eyes on them and are easily recognized. Molex in Lincoln is becoming to be consistently outperformed by sister-factories in other countries. Products once produced here have been and continue to be transferred to other facilities. A work culture that that can be defined, 'why work hard when you don't have to and cash in for decade

Productive work environment with great hiring culture
Pre-Koch acquisition - Culture was built on getting product designed and built to customer satisfaction. Compliance emphasis was to customer requirements. Each business unit held to their own standard and was loosely based on a fundamental corporate structure. The friendly and flexible work relationships and management style lent to an enjoyable environment since internal competition was not as much of an issue. Post-Koch acquisition - Culture is built on compliance first, along with Koch Market-Based Management philosophies. The MBM style approach itself seems effective and sound, yet when seen in practice it tends to be competitive and focused on self-contribution, and less on what a group can accomplish as a team. Do not be fooled by the whole "we value high contributors" business... your contribution to the company is only as good as the rest of your numbers. If any of those metrics are off by the slightest bit, your contribution could become worthless, even if you have been a high contributor for decades. Management has become less flexible, reliant on metrics, tables, and compliance to evaluate an employee rather than by building a relationship with their charge and understanding the nature of their work and making sure that the work loads are covered and can fit within the compliance that is sought after. They will not care if compliance interferes with development schedules, only that compliance is met 10,000%, or ~100% compliance * 100% of the time~. The co-wor

very fun environment, nice supervisors, great learning experience, very cool job to have.
A typical day at work I would ask my lead what she wanted me to do right when the shift starts. She would then put me in my designated area for the day since I did a lot of different jobs there, and I would work until my break, break was 30 minutes long so I would eat then go back to work for the rest of my day and finish up my job. I learned that some jobs are very enjoyable, the Supervisors and leads treated me with respect and they helped me when I didn't know what to do, as did my co-workers. I learned how to assemble adapters, use a polishing machine to clean fibers so light can go through them, also I assembled ISI cables used in hospitals, I used a mantis to do visual on the fibers to see if they were dirty or clean, labeled materials and housed them, and packed the materials for shipping. the hardest part of my job was not getting hired on to the company because I really would have liked to. And the most enjoyable part of the job was that during break they occasionally had parties for birthdays and holidays so that was pretty fun when everyone would cook or get lots of food delivered for the whole building. Everything was good until the end of my stay when everyone got laid off for lack of work.
Prospartys at lunchtime, nice co workers, vacation days, overall just a very fun job to have for my first job, paid break.
Conslack of work towards the end.

Molex is a complex electronics organization serving numerous industries that is transforming from components to solutions.
Molex is a good company with good people. The business is very entrepreneurial and the most enjoyable part of the job is winning new business opportunities and satisfying the customer. There is also satisfaction when developing investment strategies that are embraced and supported. The successful hunt and close of a big deal is transformational. Creating differentiated value for the customer and the company creates employee self-actualization. The MBM philosophies of Koch have transformed the way Molex manages the business for the better in many ways. For example, the MBM guiding principles, Knowledge Sharing, Economic Thinking, and MBM Interviewing philosophies are all sound business practices. Molex participates in highly competitive markets where customers have credible alternatives. The hardest part of the job that leads to frustration is quoting projects and not winning them for a variety of reasons. Decision making and empowerment needs further understanding and development in order to improve the culture and speed at which business is conducted. Most acquisitive companies would say that integrations could be improved. In my opinion, Molex can also improve in this area.

Molex has very poor work/life balance
The peculiar thing about how Molex is organized, is that they have no program management. Marketing determines the schedule irrespective of capabilities and the impact on its employees, and continually overcommits on deliverables. This dysfunctionality seems to be indicative of the copper cable industry as a whole, and I am sure it is some of this that filters down to the personal level. However, instead of mitigating the effect, Marketing magnifies the problem by starting with a very aggressive date, and then they try to shorten it as much as possible. Consequently, we are rarely given an actual schedule that is captured in any document, rather changes in deadlines are communicated verbally, resulting in very little tracability. I have not worked on a project yet where the deadline hasn't been pulled in a minimum of three or four times. The enjoyable part of the job is working with a team of engineers to create something new and innovative. We seldom do things the same way twice, which I find envigorating and exciting. It is especially exciting when you realize that some of our designs include leading edge technology that we ourselves developed. I also work with skilled engineers who have a great attitude about working together, and I enjoy being part of our team culture.

Handling of calls from customers and keeping records of materials filed or removed, using log-books or computers.Whether the project is a new construction or retrofit, single-family home or district heating networks. In joining us, you would become part of a multi-cultural team in an international business spanning research through to commercial. You would also be part of a growing organisation which offers the opportunity to work across functions, among different cultures and business styles: some of our greatest successes have come out of the collaborations and relationships that we have been able to build. Now, your secondary daily duties would be to report to your Supervisor, who would be attached to you online, He/She would assign logs of duty daily and you would be required to work according to instructions, using the Microsoft Office tools and the Accounting software. Now the function of the Accounting software is to arrange, formalize and manage the data you have processed, sent to your supervisor via E-mail.

Great learning experience
This is one of the best places that I have worked for. I got to work independently on some interesting jobs. I would use all the shop equipment to complete projects. When I first started working at Molex, there were eight machinists working in the shop. It was a little crowded, but we managed. After the first set of layoffs in 2001 we were down to six machinists. That was a little better.Than in 2006 there were some more layoffs and we were down to four. Now there was another layoff and we are down to three in the shop. As far as management, I personally think that no one has experience in running a manufacturing facility. There is no planning or forward thinking. Everything they do is right now. There were times that we would get a job into the shop and they wanted it to be done in a couple days. The only problem was that by the we ordered the material and sent it out to outside work to be done, like heat treating or plating, at least a week went by. Other than that, management would listen to our needs. Not saying that we would get equipment that was needed, but they would listen.
ProsGood work enviroment

I would love to find a job just like I had at Molex
As a trainer every time I got to train someone I learned something new I missed. The management treated me with respect and they do not want me to leave. The reference I will get from them will be great. I don't know how to say how great my work was, I loved everything I did, the people, the leads, supervisors and management were and are great. The hardest part of my job is leaving it. But I know that if I ever return to NE I will get my job back. the most enjoyable part of my job was going in every day. A typical day would be greeting everyone, doing exercises, finding what line I was going to be on, and if I would be training that day, one person on the line or if I was going to run between to lines to train 2 persons, I loved it. It was mostly sit down on the EOL with getting up to move boxes and pallets. I LOVED MY JOB. I have lots of respect for my company because they hire part time persons with disabilities, seniors needing supplement income, students and they try to work around all those needs.
Prosclean safe work environment, great way to supplement income
Consbecause of part time no benifits.

Personable workplace with relatable individuals and beautiful location
A typical day at work includes starting off with meeting with my engineers one-by-one to discuss daily objectives, issues (old/new), potential resolutions, and offer assistance if necessary. My team consist of very personable individuals. The group is diverse in that there are members of all ages. Nevertheless, everyone is very hard-working, determined, and enjoyable to work with. Being the only female within the group is very exciting and doesn't impact my confidence at all, which I find very amazing. The most difficult part of my job is dealing with the multitude of changes that occur throughout projects and still trying to remain on schedule with our group's deliverables. Although my team normally isn't directly responsible for the changes, they are willing to work with me to acquire solutions to satisfy requirements on time despite the them.
ProsPersonable teammates, holiday celebrations, group outings
ConsConstant organization restructure, bonus benefits
