Great OTR Company, Have runs to get you home daily.
Great Equipment, People, I just personally am wanting something different. The staff is actually all very good in whatever their titles may be. Late Model KW T-680, Freightliners, the maintenance guys here are very good. My daily run is to northern Oklahoma and back. You make as much as a Regional driver I've been told because the mileage is consistent. Drive 550-600 mile a day.
ProsEquipment, People, Maintenance Personnel. Fleet Managers.
ConsThe way they do Holiday's.

Great Company to work for but poor management decisions
When 1st hired there wasn't a better job. But when our immediate manager changed after 2 years, the manager who came in didn't listen to his people who had been on the account for years. He was a micro-manager who always had to be checking on you and trying to guide you in the wrong way. Manager had no communication skills, listening skills nor back his people, ever.

Great workplace for 20 year olds
This company is great for single 20 year olds that do not have children, if you are 30 or older with a family this is not the company for you. The group is very cliquish and is not willing to bring anyone new into their circle, if you did not go to Arkansas State for college then you will most likely not be accepted. If you are not part of the group, they will go out of their way to make sure you understand that you are not accepted. They watch sports games during office hours and party together after hours. I'm sure if you fit their criteria then this would be a great place to work but it was not a good fit for me.

Life at Marten Transport
I work in a team. We all help each other and get a long very well. Co workers are friendly. We use multiple software programs so the training was difficult but management is understanding and gives you time to learn without fear of losing your job. Most of the employees have worked here for years so that says a lot about the way they treat people. Very nice place to work.

Good place to be.
Good place, a little indecisive in advancement. Great hours, fair pay, advancement opportunities. Overall, it is a great place to work. Would recommend it to anyone in the field.

Questions And Answers about Marten Transport

What tips or advice would you give to someone interviewing at Marten Transport?
Asked Aug 5, 2016
Don't go. They steal too much of you're time for the low pay.
Answered Nov 20, 2020
Run fast as you can . I worked out of clarksville, ar . Extreme favouritism, the rest will be used and spit out. Lot of turnover. I gave them 4 years and now theyre blacklisting me. Never had any trouble finding work . Now its been a year and a half. At least 4 places have assured me i would be hired , then suddenly turned ice cold. Not even trucking jobs. Thats graditude for you.

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Marten Transport a better place to work?
Asked Sep 28, 2016
Make the dispatchers go through a week of logging practices. Make the dispatchers stop driving the trucks from their desks.
Answered Jun 1, 2021
Treat drivers better. Listen to drivers. Get rid of driver managers that dont treat drivers right. Something other companies have already learned. Your drivers are the only ones making you money. The rest are just support staff.

Why did you leave your job at Marten Transport?
Asked Mar 15, 2017
The 'guaranteed pay' is not worth it. My terminal manager told me, 'its a business and we still have to make money' When I asked him why I didn't get my guaranteed pay once. My response was: then why make a promise you don't intend to keep? The answer is simple: no one would work here if they didn't. The shop is good, but they have the same problem: great pay but terrible management. As a driver, you're expected to do as they say and that means delivering every load as early as possible, even if you know the customer won't take it. Want an extra day off? 'We already give you plenty, it's company policy that we don't give you more.' Was what my dispatcher told me.

What advice would you give the CEO of Marten Transport about how to improve it?
Asked Feb 5, 2017
Send in a decoy that reports directly back to the CEO (NO middle man). Spend one week with a trucker and another week with a dispatcher as a disguised new hire. Better yet, have the CEO do a random weekly zoom call with a random driver. Listen to your drivers. I guarantee you will see quickly see where the loss of revenue is going. Dispatchers. Period. Not paying attention, taking hours to get back with a driver, not having proper if any notes in the system when a driver calls back for the third time should raise a lot of eyebrows. What exactly are you dispatchers doing? Dispatcher training. Mandatory one week a year on the road with a trucker. Unless they experience it, they'll never realize what it's like to be out on the road. They'll gain a respect for what the truckers go through and how time is of the essence; after all time is money. Another lose in revenue, the way the shop is ran. It should never take HOURS 3, 4 sometimes up to 6 hours for an inspection to be done. Hiring multiple family members to run the shop at the Desoto terminal should be a concern for management; especially the CEO. Wish I could leave my #. I have a hundreds of ideas/suggestions. I would love to come in, work in every department separately for one month to understand what they all do. I'd whip that place in shape in a year. For the folks not performing because of pure laziness, fired. Period. There are millions of people out there wanting/needing a job and willing to give it their all!
