The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
All factory jobs have some ups and downs, pros and cons. It’s not the worst place to work but they definitely have some improvement needed. The management only really cares about rate, they don’t focus too much on who is working hard and who isn’t picking up their own slack. I say this because I bust my ace everyday and the only recognition I get is a good job when they see the hourly rate so high. If they actually focus on making their employees feel comfortable and happy then they wouldn’t have to worry about so many people leaving. They’re constantly hiring people because most new hires or even temps will just drop the ball, it’s mind numbing work, tedious and same thing everyday. The pay isn’t bad at all depending on the shift you work but the thing is, you hardly get a raise and when you do it seems to be the same as everyone else gets, they don’t keep track of your performances unless you mess up and pass a bad part, it’s the end of the world, even if it’s not your fault most likely you get blamed for things you didn’t do. Some of the team leaders don’t deserve their positions, just hanging out talking to people nothing work related and sometimes you really need your leader to help you with something but they will be no where to be found or on their phone texting which is totally frowned upon if you’re just an ordinary team member.. management could use some tweaking. Not only that they play favorites ALOT, like if you wanna come in early for OT instead of sta

Bad Workplace
The management is poor. Honestly, all you really need to know is that Magna Mirrors does not care about their employers. All they really care about are making parts. Making rate and hitting your number. You can only miss four days a year. Takes six months to forgive a day that you've missed. The attendance policy is very confusing, it goes by a percentage. I do not understand the attendance policy, even people that have been working there longer than I have, don't understand it. I have been there for almost a year and never have been to an orientation. You would think that you'd have an orientation the day before you start? I guess not that doesn't apply to Magna Mirrors. A typical work day, is very stressful. You never have an material you need to build the car mirrors that are on the schedule. The machines tend to not work. So you'll have hours of downtime. It's difficult to hit number when you don't have the items you need. One line that I was on, always had bad paint. Normally it'll be one tote of bad paint, I was sending back four to five totes a night because of bad paint. It was the packer's fault if you went down for paint. I had a PA yell at me, several times, that it was MY fault that I was down, due to having bad paint. How is it my fault that the Magna Mirrors in Newago was giving me bad paint. All I learned was that this workplace is not worth it. The only thing that would be worth it, is the pay and benefits. Other than that, I would not recommend this job to

Poor management and they all treat you terribly
So i got in as an IT Help Desk Technician with experience from the State of Michigan. Not once did they have any training for me other than having me be the lap dog following my co worker to work on things case by case, but only after a few days of that, and they expect you to be able to do everything, even if you've never had experience in that task before. The hot environment is bad, but i wasn't so concerned about that. However, i was concerned at how poorly workers were being treated by the higher up management staff. Maintenance techs who are terribly under staffed, and horribly over worked are being yelled at and even degraded on the floor. But with my experience, my biggest issue personally was the management. My IT manager would not help me to learn about new tasks that i had no experience in, so i would ask my co worker. My co worker was honestly was the only good part of this company. He would help me out as much as possible, then once his knowledge went dry, i was forced to ask the manager, who 1. Just shouts out the solution to it instead of showing you what to do for it 2. talks down to you as if you're stupid 3. makes comments about you not doing work when researching how to do the tasks he gave you I was constantly spoken down to. I had issues originally with Zebra printer troubleshooting because i had no prior experience. After working with them on multiple occasions, i learned how to use them and fix them. But when delving out tasks, he made a

Good pay and benefits, not much else.
The pay and benefits are very good. Some hourly employees make more than office and management personnel, especially the skilled trades, and the HR staff is openly resentful about it. Management is very sneaky and backhanded. They'll make promises that they wont keep. They'll treat you like a subhuman imbecile if you're not an engineer or working in the office. HR actually had a man fired on a technicality because one of the generalists didnt like him from an argument she had with him years prior at another completely unrelated job. She actually lied to legal so he would be terminated. The general manager is a crook. He makes the worst possible financial decisions and places the burden of dealing with it on our shoulders by doing things like cutting off air conditioning in the summer months as well as keeping entire departments critically understaffed for months on end. He had a new cafeteria installed which is run by 5 star foods and has demanded that no outside food be brought into the facility. If you want to eat, you'd better eat from the cafeteria which is no better than gas station food and is ridiculously overpriced. The safety staff is a joke. They're so desperate to prove themselves relevant that they'll intentionally cause safety issues like spilling chemichals or opening flammable cabinets so they can take pictures of it and get credit for corrective action. Emphasis on metrics and short term goals is becoming the norm. Management is woefully inept at handling and

Do you want to have no life, have your brother/sister basically die in the hospital and work 7 days a week mandatory! Then Magna is the place for you!
I’m disappointed they didn’t have brunt coffee. But for realz though, I’m a college student trying to focus more on my education rather than work. I felt like since I had to work 7 days a week I had no life. I barely saw my family only on the weekends for like 6 hours then it was time to work😞 my hours at Magna felt long and stressful. It’s great if you want money but it takes you away from your life. Even if you work overtime you still have to work the 7 days. Should I mention that the managers AND team leaders get rotation but you don’t! Also if you have sister or a brother in the hospital the Flma won’t do ANYTHING. My sister was in the hospital for a month and they wouldn’t let me use it even though she was a immediate family member. I’m going to put it out there, when she entered the hospital the doctors said she had 3 MONTHS TO LIVE. Now I didn’t find this out until she was better, but still They should not take my time away from my little sister. Not having the FMLA and THEY wanted to use all my vacation time without pay I should’ve even have to do this in the first place!! The mangament is unbelievable. They can’t make up their minds of what they want in this “company” if they can even call it that. Everything keeps moving, and it’s all cramped into a small place where we can even move that much. So once they get their ”things” together I won’t be going back for a while. But through all the that ordeal, I will still miss my family. I’ve learned so much fr

Pushy management, Not very family oriented you cannot go to family funerals because they will fire you.Unorganized management
It starts out with the promises of getting trained to be prepared for a building they have next to the training facility which will be your full time facility after training. Huge issues always arise when management gets pushy with face masks and forcing workers to work 6 and 7 days a week on a 10 hour shift. You will be told there will be some overtime and your shifts will be 8 hours when you hire in, then you suddenly realize there are on the average of 2 and 3 temps walking off the job daily. Seems like you could never do enough they wanted more!. Also this company is not family oriented such as funerals of a family member and for some individuals the company is not even considerate of working with you with concerns of having children and finding daycares and sitters etc. Some people miss 2 and 3 days a month and continue working and some people miss 1 or 2 days for major family emergencies and they will end their assignment. If you choose to take a position at Magna on a second shift especially, you will be forced to work 6 ten hour days while most dayshift are able to leave on thier scheduled 8 hours and not be mandated to work 10 hours. If you plan on choosing a career where you leave your family for weeks on end and live at the workplace, this may be the job for you!

Poor People Leadership, Great Technology
First, let me state that there are several great aspects of Magna and other Magna entities. Magna's overall innovation capability within the transportation industry is impressive, and they have the capabilities to deliver on projects that others cannot. There are also pockets of great people who are engaged and committed to the future. Magna might suffer from the lack of an organized, effective people management process to onboard, train, and mentor new employees. Leaving a previous company with a high level of employee support, engagement, and development, the Magna office culture appeared to be very odd, as most people would avoid eye contact and any level of conversation with an unknown colleague. Additionally, I found borderline passive-aggressive relationships between management and employees. Frequently, emails would come out indicating so-and-so left to pursue other opportunities (effective immediately), eluding to higher than average turnover. People leadership capabilities and development structure appeared to be lacking. I would recommend interviewing with Magna, as they offer some compelling opportunities. I would also coach that one should spend a lot of time in the interview process to clarify expectations, planned support, and training/mentoring commitments - this is a very team specific initiative at Magna given the lack of an overall process.

Open door policy? to bully you? And intentionally disagree with you? YES!
I leaned some things while working at Magna! A lot of those in production, are new to this country and actually are very nice people! I will always speak well of them! Other than that, there are a FEW, I hope, I won't have to work with their types, that I worked with there with the likes of... extreme passive- aggressive behavior, and the one that says she never would throw anyone under a bus and.... that is all she does! And a boss that played games with me! How toxic! I can't get over how openly rotten people can be in a work place! And they are under their best behavior at work? My first week there, some lady from corporate was training me and the bus lady, and this woman relished in treating me like a fool.....because a was new and I was male? The open door policy might sound good but, don't ask these people for any help, that involves anything other than anything very basic! It will just frustrate you! The bright side is if you come to work and not expect much from managers and associates, you would be better off! The pay is decent! The company has some good attributes about it though, free coffee, frequent free food, good benefits and pay! Shift changes are chaotic, with many employees! The shop gets very hot even if it's in the mid 70s! It can be very cold in the shop in late Fall- through, late Spring!
ProsGood pay & benefits, free coffee and sometimes free food! nice people!
ConsA lacking open door policy! Some Toxic associates & management

unorganized chaos
managers would change your schedule 5 min before shift change. They would force you to work 30+ days with no day off, working 10 & 12 hours shifts. The robots are constantly breaking down because they over work them and they don't fix them correctly the first time. Their point system sucks, as they don't care if you are 1 min late or 29 min late, if you are late you get pointed a 1/2 a point. If you are more than 30 min late, even with a call you are pointed a full point. If you call in for the day you are pointed a full point. A no call no show is 2 points. If you are injured on the job you are pointed, even with a doctors note. They basically have no tollarance for excuses even if you are sick, they expect you to be at work. If you get hurt on the job the managers just say "oh, ok, now get back to work". Your points stay with you up to 12 months from the time you get the point. It doesn't matter how hard you work, or what goals you meet, they never acknowledge the good job you have done with your team. The turn over rate is so high, they go through temps and employees because of the long hours, the disrespect shown to employees, and the open ended promises of being hired on after so many hours. They would be a good company if they cared more for their employees and hired quality managers that took pride in their work.

Dont expect to have a life outside of work here
I worked for the Holland division. There are alot of good people who work there but unfortunately management is absolutely terrible. Favortism runs rampant here. It’s all about who you know. Jobs are awarded based on senority and not how well you can do the job so even if you’re the most qualified person in the whole division, that’s still not enough to get the job you want. Work weeks tend to be either 6/7 days and some spots work 10-12 hours. Mandetory long work weeks have been an issue at this company for as long as I worked there (7 years). During the last 2 years temps were given $2 raise so they made as much as employees starting out on the lowest grade jobs. No attemp had been made to give the hired in employees any sort of raises to match what the temps were given. Temps are also aloud to get away with calling in as much as they want most of the time. Makes it really hard to operate the lines when half the workers show up whenever they please. Communication is poor between upper management and shop floor employees. Often the “big bosses” had no idea what our actual problems were out on the floor or what we were actually struggling with. The one good thing I got from working here was the motivation to go back to school and finish my degree.
ProsGood people, good benefits
ConsFavortism, bad management, long hours

Deception
If you work midnight shift, you get nothing but work shortages, unfair treatment, and complete disregard. The company only cares to give non-stop overtime to days and afternoons whilst giving workshortages to midnights, we have enough staff to run all assembly lines on midnights, but the company would rather just run them as overtime. There's times where we'll be running lines, and day shift will come in and kick us off of those lines "So that we can have overtime". In which is not needed as we were fully staffed and running those lines, like what the..... So then we're scrambling to find out where to put our operators and even sending some home; that's right, we send our operators home so that dayshift can run overtime for no reason. There's been a few times where full-midnights had a complete workshortage on a sunday night, and I came in on the weekend to see, and days and afternoons are doing an overtime saturday+ double time sunday. If you need any kind of request or paperwork done, or even some sort of action taken care of... Days and afternoons are a priority. Midnights get nothing but the worste end of the stick, we get lied to, mis-lead, deception, and complete dis-regard as if we're a hassle to them, I'm not even kidding when I say this next part, but day shift will walk in your way and even into you without acknowledging that they bumped you, they straight up think midnights are trash, not to mention they treat us that way. If your temp agen

Great Place to get experience
In was my first job in the field of Tool and die. They deal with hot stamping along with class A dies which are very niche on its own. They are willing to help you along the way to get all the skills you need in order to be successful in this trade. However their wages are low compared to the competition. I've heard they have increased but still not comparable to where I am now. You can make a good living if you're willing to put in the overtime. Everyone's goal is to make that same amount of money without having to put in 70+ hrs a week. YES 70+!!! as an apprentice I would often do 80+ hrs but that got old fast. I worked like that for the first 5 years I was there. I know there were a lot of guys that had relationship issues with all the work and travelling that they wanted you to do. A first year apprentice would start at a bit under $14 (that was in 2012 I don't know how much it is now) and would top out at $22 while other divisions would start and keep them at $29. The work that you have to do at Massiv is so much more than any where else. Apprentices should be getting over $30 with the work they do. It's a great place to learn and develop your trade but not a place to retire if you're a licence tool and die maker. Massiv is growing all the time and there is definitely room for advancement, a lead hand makes $38 hr mine you that's how much I'm making now as a regular tool maker. The culture is very bias to the Irish if anyone knows about Massiv then you'll know
Prosgreat learning experience, very interesting work, hot stamping very niche
Conssalary isn't comparable to others and the crazy hrs that's expected

Stay away
I worked here for a year as a temp. Was on full time with a regular shift. Was told I had to go to the recent job fair to apply for a job. Went in, stood in line with the thirty or so others...10 other temps and 20 walk ins..we all did the same test I had to do to get the job here as a temp..a year ago...then I went into the interview. I was asked 5 questions. 2 were: 1. What do I think makes a good employee? 2. Am I able to work 40 hrs/week? After 1 year of employment, neither of these questions should have been asked by a serious professional to an employee. If I knew as little of my job as they did of me after one year. I would have been walked out the door. I will never return. If you need a job, have a few skills and are looking for something entry level to gain factory experience. This is an ok choice. If you are looking for long term, no way. Don't get me wrong, if you are applying for a job that is full time with benefits etc and get it. Go for it. The job is good. If they offer you a contract position, do not take it, unless of the above reason or desperation (gotta eat). Contracts are just extensions of your 3 month first hire period. No benefits and no job security at reduced pay compared to full time people. This contract currently sits as lasting 6 months and can be renewed a maximum of 4 times (2 years). No benefits, no raises. You do get 10 paid vacation days. But are warned about missing days during this period. Just a reminder, take your vitamin
ProsGood guys to work with. On bus route.
ConsEmployment process is shady.
