Roll Tender | Torrance, CA | Jul 1, 2021
Great benefits.
I worked for this company for 30 years. It used to be, RR Donnelly & Sons. Now there's a whole lot of reasons why I believe the name change happened, some fact and some speculation, but I won't say anything beyond that. I believe the company started to drift away from the original founders' vision. This company was founded in the late 1800's and never had a layoff until 2007. They offered great benefits and vacation time and potential for career growth. They also supported you in that potential growth. I mean, those are some of the qualities you look for in a company.
ProsGreat pay but not in all states.
ConsDon't know how stable the company is at this point.

Orientation was great! Super friendly people!
Until you get on the floor.Thats when you meet the drones. The supervisor who talks at you, against you, down at you.You are made to feel like you BETTER know your job but you BETTER let the senior people handle any issues even though it's your job to do. And don't expect team work or motivation. Its not there

Plant closing
Little notice of plant closing.Worked there for 12 years and really disappointed in the way upper management has ran the company the last several years.

Was for a long time. Last three years made me throw up.
Not good last few years before I got a work force reduction and doing two jobs at that time. VP only wanted results and expected you to beat folks not making numbers even if they were 1% short.
ProsVery little

Boiler Operator | Mattoon, IL | May 25, 2020
Overall the experience was rewarding
Economic times and overall costs to maintain the overhead expenses of EPA regulated standards and expenses ultimately was the demise of the Mattoon Illinois facility closing its doors and overall costs seem to be the main reason for this Company to file chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2020

Customer Service Representative | Minnesota | Apr 8, 2019
Was a good job in it's day.
Loved working with customers and coworkers on production of magazines. Corporate decided to close the location I worked at. It's unfortunate, it was a great place to work in our small community.

No-nonsense productive workplace
Work on jobs according to priority from a work queue. Preflight all new files for potential issues & report issues to customer. Refine & assign files in the proper page sets and process layout with Preps software.

good long time emplyer
As a 14 year employee I quite enjoyed working at lsc communications. They are well structured and very helpful and supportive bringing new people to the team. departments are well managed and well run. There is also constant training on improving the job and making things easier and better for future employees. Pay could be better but overall it s great company to work for.
Pros20 minute lunch two 10 minute breaks.
Consa fair amount of overtime for a while then a slow down to 4 days a week

Do they background check?
Asked Mar 28, 2017
Yes a background check is done at pre-employment. Past and minor discrepancies are typically overlooked. The main concerns are serious charges, like kidnapping, murder, etc. If you have theft or battery, you are typically fine. But it all depends on the charge.
