Good company to work for
Iv worked for the Lifeways’s group for 5yrs. I find them very professional through out the group. The house were I work is very relaxing but can be challenging at times. The shift pattens are a bit strange and takes time to get used too.

Not a good working environment
Worked at HO for about a year - felt like I was back at school, top management treat everyone else like children, and just generally not a very welcoming place. Expected to work way beyond job description (with no proper resources) and no acknowledgement/ rewards in return. Very disorganised and no clear processes for anything. My team were generally lovely, but overall I found this company to be extremely backwards and not all what I would have expected for the industry it’s in.
ProsGood location
Cons“Cliquey”, disorganised, unprofessional, not a good work environment

Awful place to work!
I have disliked this job since I first got it. I had never done any sort of care work before so was hoping for some sort of guidance from my manager but received nothing, I was completely thrown into the deep end. And when I moved services, I was told nothing about the new service user, once again thrown in the deep end. Management is completely useless and really don't care about their staff at all and do not care about their requests regarding shifts/location of service. It is also impossible to get a hold of them, always ignoring text messages. The other staff I have to work with are incredibly mean, nasty, backbiting and immature and it is not a pleasant workplace at all. For the pay that you get as a Support Worker, it is not worth putting up with what you have to deal with working for these people. The only good part of this job are the service users, they are a pleasure to work with.
ProsService users
ConsLow pay, very poor management, awful colleagues, zero guidance

Low pay for the work you do
Great company to work for , you can easily work your way up if you want to . I can honestly say I love my job as a support worker but Pay isn't in line with the tasks you have to complete , I have previously been told I am doing the same work as a team leader /supervisor etc other companies pay above nmw .it's very hands on experience , great work colleagues and the service users are amazing . A better hourly rate would be greatly appreciate for the work us support workers have to do as I know a few that feel very under valued
ProsLovely service users, great staff, listened to
ConsLow pay, under valued, doing the work of a manager

Very productive, interesting and fun work place
Working in Lifeways is very good because, you are meeting a professional staff that have had good experiences which can actually benefit new staff in moving ahead with his or her carrier.

Horrendous Place to Work
Very poor Management team, very poor company full stop. Has no interest in benefiting the service users in any way, more about drowning every penny out of the poor souls there. Lovely working with service users, but management ruin the experience by not having enough staff, poor quality food given to service users with no decent cooks bar one. Poor service users suffer ever day. Stay clear if you want this was a carrer, you will not learn anything here

i wouldn't waste your time with this care company, they do not consider staff or service users, just on how much the company can earn, they didn't care if you had a personal life a family or children, i wouldn't bother, a lot better companies out there

pfft
Don't bother wasting your time! Basically forced to do shifts you don't want to do even if you have already done over your contracted hours. Little care for staff, little support from management. Team leaders are just as bad.. about as useful as a Chocolate tea pot. You work your back side off for some rip off wage and you don't get paid right usually! Lifeways slowly starts taking over everything you do. Managers calling you 10 or more times in 2 minutes begging you to do shifts on your days off!! Awful company
ProsGood support workers
ConsThe whole company is a con

Do not apply
Poor pay, poor environment. Head office to focused on money. Head office don’t care about existing service user needs when setting up new tenancies. A bitchier environment than a high school girls changing room! Serious lack of communication Serious sweeping under the carpet of staffing issues Nothing ever solved properly No chance of career progression No investment in learning Online training is pointless Support plans are not always realistically achievable Managers barely know some service users and don’t listen to concerns from the staff who support them daily. Only good thing about this company is the lovely people you get to support! I’d say it’s good to gain experience in this area of work but there’s plenty of other companies out there that can not be this bad. Just save yourself the grey hairs, wrinkles, anxiety and stress. Don’t apply. You’ll never have a day to yourself again. Constant phone calls for shift coverings even when your on annual leave!
ProsThe service users, and some staff
ConsLiterally everything

Great and productive
Good caring for life and independence living. The job is good only pay need to be looked into a bit low compare to the load of task and other service provider. Good environment to work and good team management and staff.

I am on holiday now till October, 2014 when I will be rounding up with my dissertation of my postgraduate studies. I am available to do full time work
Sometimes I do experience busy day at work but I always organise my work schedule which always make mjob task more interesting and with little supervision. I have learnt everyday of my life, about new things and sometimes faced with challenges, which I resolved and addressed immiediately as it's comes up. For classroom learning to be effective, as a teacher/tutor, classroom management techniques must be applied. Therefore, I manage my teaching session, in other to ensure that my students have an in-depth understanding of what the topic is all about. I as a senior Economic Tutor, I ensure that I achieved effective team working system. The hardest part of my job as a teacher is when I am preparing them for external examinations because personally, I take joy when all my students perform academically excellent in their examination. My most enjoyable part of my job is when my students are progressing academically excellent.

I work with challenging and high risk clients
A typical day at work involves me working directly with the service users whether it is in the community or hostel based, who are living with a direct mental illness. I will work closely and support people with, in medical terms, diagnoses such as, Schizophrenia, Anxiety and Depression, Psychotic Disorders, Early Dementia, Bi-polar disorders, Polydipsia, Personality Disorder and Learning Disabilities. One main responsibility I have at work is to administer and record, time pacific medication, agreed by secondary mental health services. I have learned how to work with high risk clients and how to support all of their social, emotional and mental health needs. I have learned about different types of disorders and how to maintain risk assessments. This is completed by myself and documented in daily assessment logs and specific paperwork required such as, gingerbread forms, risk assessments and person centered care plans. The hardest part of the job is to limit risk in the house and the community with people who have a mental health diagnosis. In addition, administering time pacific medication can also be a challenge, of which is done to the best of my ability. The most enjoyable part of the day is for me to witness the clients being content and presenting stable to attend social events and community work. This job is very rewarding.

Very rewarding, but not enough pay
Very rewarding job, the people we support are all wonderful. All the team leaders and managers are easy to talk to and helpful, however sometimes things can be swept under the carpet. As for pay, always being promised a pay rise - never happens! And as for pay day, forget it if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday! 😂 even worse when it's a bank holiday because you then dont get paid till the next working day!!!

Worst workplace ever!
Do not work at lifeways! They over work people to do 80+ hours when they are only contracted to full time. They don’t allow you to have days off because they never cover and you have no choice but to go in. Management is ridiculous and don’t even help to cover they just make the staff do it all. Couldn’t think of anything worse than having to work here again.

Questions And Answers about Lifeways Group

What is the interview process like at Lifeways Group?
Asked Jan 5, 2017
Our interview process is relaxed and casual. The interview is for us to find out who is the right fit for our services.
Answered Oct 16, 2020
Luckily the manager we had at the time was extremely passionate and had a genuine interest for both the service users and the staff team. The interview questions were relevant to the job role and she seemed friendly and eager to find out whether we were suitable candidates. Sadly, due to the fact that she refused to cover up and lie about things, aswell as being treated poorly by the higher powers, she handed her notice in and left. That should tell you everything you need to know.

Support is a 24/7, 365 day a year job. We have part-time, full-time and sessional contracts that can fit round you. Typically, a shift would run for 7.5-8 hrs. Your contract can typically range from 16-40 hours per week. Depending on the service, shifts could start at 7am and finish at 10pm. We also cater for waking-nights, sleeps and weekends. The people we support, need and want support at all times of the day and night. Rota's are usually published 4 weeks in advance.
