Excellent benefits and pay but not nearly enough recognition or opportunity for growth
Overall I have to say I enjoy working for LIDL but most days I leave feeling underappreciated and not valued for my strengths. More often than not, front line associates are not included in conversations about climate of the store environment or even the direction of the organization therefore buy-in is scarce. I believe I have a strong work ethic regardless of my position or role but for some less self motivated people, LIDL may not be a great fit. Some of my peers go above and beyond expectations daily yet there is no reward...no pat on the back...again, a general lack of recognition. The job itself for me is very enjoyable. I'm never bored, the day goes by very fast because you're always moving ..always busy. Lastly, I think its important to mention some operational issues I feel inhibit frontline associates to effectively do their job...most importantly where customer service should be a priority. Almost every week, there are advertised items that as a store we may never actually receive at all or they come late or they come in such limited quantities that the sell out immediately. As an employee I'm aware many of our products are "limited time offers" and stock should be expected at times to be limited. But as an organization, to simply give off the impression that "it is what it is" and have no remedy whatsoever.....or no progress made or attention given to this area of opportunity is no different than ignoring the cus

If you have Buying experience from other companies, you will only use about 20% at Lidl. You will NOT have the same functions. As a BUYER, you spend most of your time shopping at various grocery stores (because they refuse to hire someone w/lower pay to take on this simple but timely responsibility- you work in the DC Area and traffic is horrible and most of the grocery stores are at least 25-30+ min. away w/traffic), inside a walk-in chiller or freezer (dependent on your category), cooking - actually preparing food (dependent on your category) and giving presentations that require you to be on your feet for an average time of 4-14 hours and this doesn't include the weeks or days you've spent preparing. The Culture is fear based and they continue to give you more and more work until you break. The pay is competitive at the corporate office, especially for new college graduates so that's why the younger employees stay and suffer in silence. It's unrealistic that they expect Buyers to constantly give presentations AND do their daily tasks.
Most of the Directors in the Buying Department are very immature and lack experience at companies other than Lidl. They only know the "Lidl way" and nothing else...they talk to Suppliers like they're imbeciles with very little respect - they also train the younger Buyers to do so as well, unbeknownst to the younger Buyers, they're ruining their relationships with the Supplier community. The non-existent leadership has created a directionless company floundering in their respective markets. The blame game is constantly played amongst executives, departments, and employees...No one takes responsibility or is held accountable for mistakes or mismanaged initiatives...When will the bleeding stop? The turnover among entry and mid level employees is inexcusable, leaving very few employees having historical knowledge of proper procedures. You may think that training and transparent communication would take care of understanding the systems, software, and procedures...Guess again. There was a time this place made you feel there was a bigger sense of self, a team with the same idea and mindset, intelligent management & and supervisors but all of the luster of this company has disappeared with no signs of returning. Incompetence has completely taken over the store. Hiring the wrong people and keeping them for too long is a common problem with little hope of change. The respectable workers are getting shafted, being disrespected and are expected to be at 180% instead of 100% at all times. For a company that preaches versatility and having staff members prepared to be able to fill in a position, most people are relegated to doing one singular task or still haven't been trained on anything outside the bakery or cash register. Half of supervisors still know how to be human while others need to remember how much is too much for one person to endure. Your supervisors are moderate at best and unbearable at worst, they can't be wrong on any of their decisions no matter how asinine it is in practice. Please watch out for who you talk to as many are only putting a mirage and will backstab you if you give them ammo. At least half are lazy and narcissistic. I have mostly nothing bad to say about the manager of the store itself but they would be much better if they learned how to stop scheduling understaffed night shifts to a horrendous degree. I have worked for Lidl-US since the beginning of the year. At first, I loved my job. It was inconvenient for most people having to drive over an hour to the training center multiple times a week but I wasn't too far away so it didn't bother me. The pay was great and they paid for my gas so I saw no problem with the company. I showed up for all my shifts throughout training and learned what I needed to. Lidl was always having trouble getting everyone set up but I just went with it. My first pay check was messed up by around 5 hours but I wasn't worried about it because I was trying to be understanding. It was a new company and they would have their problems. Well fast forward to once training was over. Our store was supposed to be open but something happened so we were unable to work. Lidl sent us to volunteer multiple places for months. That was okay because we were still paid. But soon it just became an annoyance. I was hired to work in a grocery store and that's not what I was doing.
This company has horrible management. There are certain store managers and district managers that are so hateful towards everyone. They always have an attitude and will yell at you for no reason. It's not just me that will tell you this. Any of my other coworkers will confirm this. We have been told that our pay issues are low priority. Missing pay is never a low priority. This company gives people many opportunities to learn new things with lots of options to move laterally. You will be trusted with lots of responsibilities. Growth-minded people will love it here.
However, opportunity to move up is not fair. Most of time, they are not advertised. Therefore, you will not even get a chance to apply or ask to be considered. When they are advertised, that is after they have already selected someone for them and told that someone. But then, other people will find out that they are being interviewed for a job that no longer exists. Hence, the mistrust in the whole process. You will see bad performers or people with absolutely no idea about what they were doing being promoted or people with 0 experience promoted over experienced workers. It is like they pick a group of people they like, put their names on a board and throw a dart.
Your experience will depend on the boss that you have as there isn't much of a company culture. At least you will not really feel like there is one. You have a great boss? You will enjoy it here! Meant to do a review of this job a few months ago. First, I will talk about the positives of the company. Management is great. Everyone I worked with was for the most part, easy to get along with. This goes from associates up to management. This is important for a productive work culture. Good culture equals better productivity. Lidl also has great pay compared to similar jobs in Delaware. They consistently raised wages over the course of a year. Once you understand the various tasks they become easy to accomplish over time which makes work enjoyable. There’s always new things happening every day. Definitely does not feel like a typical fast food job where you do the same task for 8 hours. My managers allowed for a very flexible work schedule. This was very important to me because I am in college and need to have the ability to pick the days I can work. I enjoyed coming into work which is something you may not get at every job. Now I will talk about some of the negatives. This company 100% does not have enough employees. They tend to keep a skeleton crew so you are left with doing 2x the amount of work as you really should. I think they keep a small crew in order to pay people higher wages. Around the time I left, Lidl started making associates unload the truck in which this job was previously done by the driver. Weak upper management from the director level up and sometimes weak senior managers who are unqualified for their jobs. This is a theme for LIDL they hire unqualified directors and up to manage employees that have more experience than they do and instead of relying on their knowledge they make decisions that make little to no sense. They focus on unimportant issues such as your pto balances, work from home policies, and shifting responsibilities to other departments so they do not have to handle them. Managers and senior managers have no power to hire and fire as needed or really to make ANY decisions as they are micromanaged at every turn. The upper management even gets overly involved on promoting people instead of relying on line managers to do it and their recommendations. The pay scale is horrible, you have people with advanced degrees and experiences being paid the exact same as people with basic education just because they are at the same level. Additionally communication is a joke, they think it stems from he board level but that is the root cause that flows through the vps and directors who rarely provide enough information to do your job well. This is the misconception they need to resolve because the board should be sharing some information but the rest of the issues in communication rest solely at the vp and director level. Overworked and lack of care of employee training
I’ve worked with Lidl for 3 years. I used to love working here, but a lot has changed in the past year that I now find it extremely hard to even want to keep my job here. The pay and benefits are really good, but not worth the stress the job can cause. Lidl keeps opening new stores before even making sure their older stores are fully staffed and have all the support they need. Lidl also does not train their employees to the full extent that is needed. They keep opening stores without allowing all the employees to get all the necessary training they need to successfully complete the job. This is causing more tenured staff (like myself) to get overwhelmed with the workload and constantly picking up after others. Especially in the newer stores they are opening, no one is throughly trained prior to opening the store. Lidl cares more about the money it is going to make than about the training it’s employees receive. Even when employees are training in a store, they aren’t able to receive the training they need because the store they are training in is usually short staffed. On top of that, Lidl is a very hard company to advance in. I managed to advance pretty quickly, but you need to get connected to the right people while at work. They would rather hire store managers from outside the company, rather than promote from within. This has proven to be a disaster and caused a lot of the stores to go downhill because these store managers get rushed through training or don’t even have a

The store started out great! Everyone got along and worked hard.
Then we lost our first amazing manager. Than another one. Then the current manager took over.
Managment does not care for you unless you're lucky. Goes between giving you 40 hours a week to 8. Does not care about your schedule restrictions.
Supervisors are either super nice and amazing, to horrible and rude to you and customers.
The only good thing about this job is possible benefits. Thats only if you get upgraded to PT 30 or stay 6 months. Both are VERY unlikely.
Shifts last at least 8 hours, but usually you stay at least another 2 hours after your shift ends. They work you like crazy, and will throw you from department to department with no care. Prepare to work the freezer or chiller and have to run all the way up to the registers every time they need you.
Oh, and they constantly bring in people from NJ and PA to come "help" because the store is a mess due to them never scheduling enough people and overworking the 3 workers they put on each shift. They dont ever stay to help close, which is the worse shift and you'll never get out on time unless you walk out.
Unless you're desperate for money I would find someone else to work for. You can work anywhere for minimum wage. Unless you like being overworked, tired, and threatened at every turn to be fired, then this is the place for you!
And dont expect to be adequatley trained. Ever.

Je vais simplement vous raconter la vie d'un CELS étudiant à LIDL dans un grand magasin, 14h par semaine puis 30h pendant les vacances :
A mon entrée, de grand discours sur la formation LIDL, toute une journée pour apprendre à manier un transpalette et qu'est ce que l'entreprise LIDL, tout était parfait, le formateur très sympa, suite à cela nous avons un plan de formation, avec des timings, et 2 mois de "test", nous étions 3 à partir dans le même magasin à ce moment.
Suite à cela, nous arrivons dans le magasin, pour détaillé un peu le plan de formation c'est 5h par ci ( boulangerie ), 5h par la ( mise en rayon ) avec de la théorie puis de la pratique, mais me voilà confronté à la première réalité de LIDL, formation 15 minute sur caisse enregistreuse CARTE BANCAIRE avec une chef caisse ( et non ma responsable de formation qui était comme de par hasard en vacance ! ) puis ensuite ils m'ont mis sur une caisse tout seul.
Voilà ma formation est terminé, tout le reste a été appris sur le tas, et quand je dis appris c'est qu'après 2 ans j'en apprend toujours !!! Même les nouveaux entrants m'apprennent des choses !
Sur les 3 entrants, seul moi y suis encore, 1 viré pendant sa période de test car il était retissant à faire des heures supplémentaires imposé pour finir des tâches irréalisable dans les temps impartis, 1 autre qui a fini en dépression.

Κινείται απίστευτα γρήγορα σε όλα και πρέπει να τρέχεις να την προλάβεις. Ένα κατάστημα έχει τεράστιες ευθύνες, αλλά μέσα από αυτές γίνεσαι ακόμα καλύτερος. Da dipendente Lidl scrivo questa recensione sono addetto alle vendite da 5 anni e dopo aver avuto la fortuna di girare diverse filiali (per vari motivi) mi sento di fare una breve recensione/guida sull azienda per le new entry che cercano informazioni ..... Devo dire che in lidl ci sono degli aspettivi oggettivi: il salario (rispetto alla concorrenza dove lavoravo e conoscendo il settore della gdo posso dire che pagano bene), tutele (Inps, INAIL, e altre cosine), regolarità assoluta degli stipendi, stabilità economica Dell azienda (é una multinazionale) forte flessibilità (un aspetto per me molto negativo perché comunque rende difficile avere una vita privata e soprattutto dei ritmi dato che puoi fare un giorno 12 00 19 00 e il giorno dopo 06 00 13 00 e quello dopo ancora 18 00 21 30 ad esempio)è gli orari nelle filiali lungomare possono cambiare ad esempio alcune di queste quando arriva l estate chiudono al pubblico alle 22 00 quindi se fai chiusura e tutto va bene sei fuori per le 22 30 però vabbe in questo settore c'è sempre la flessibilità richiesta (in lidl l ho vista di più) poi ci sono spesso cambi di orario e quindi ci sono anche difficoltà a prendere degli impegni, devo dire anche che l ambiente è molto dinamico (cambiamo alcune procedure di lavoro, e soprattutto può capitare di vedere un forte ricambio a livello di capi area, che lavorano in modo diverso e chiedono cose diverse l uno dall altro) .... The pay is very good, and goes up with every full year you work for them, so that is a great positive of this company, but there are a lot of negatives too.
You can be hired for a part-time (say 20 hour) contract but given 39+ hours a week every week (good for some, but less so for others), and then every closedown shift you will probably finish late (but get paid for it). You will also sometimes have to attend for staff meetings outside of your shift pattern (you might say finish a closedown after midnight, then have to come back for 9am for the staff meeting, then return again at 2pm for your actual shift). So overall you do more than full time hours, but on a part time contract, meaning your holiday benefit is poorer than it ought to be if you were accurately contracted to your hours. Management (which I never was) somtimes have to do a closedown shift (potentially post midnight finish in worst case scenario) followed immediately by an early morning (5am start) shift. On one occasion we closed down the store on a Sunday, finishing about an hour later than planned, only to be told we had also been rota-ed on for several hours that evening for a full stock count. The only indication on the rota on the board was that they had put a single letter (I think 'S'?) underneath the shift times (i.e. the regular Sunday shift times, bearing in mind the shorter trading on Sunday), and we were expected to just know that the one letter meant several extra hours of stock counting was a

Well, where do I start.
The role of a Customer Assistant will completely ruin you. It will effect your health (mentally and physically), financially, you will be sworn at, insulted, witness racism, sexism and incredible amounts of back stabbing
I’ve worked in 4 different stores and it’s always the same.
Physically, I know of at least 2 people who are not only in their twenties but also have to wear back supports. God knows how they will be in their 50’s or up
Pallets can weigh in excess of 250 kilos each so if you are pulling 6 of them around the store. Well, you do the maths...
There is constant pressure to stack the pallets in a certain time. Mixer pallets are the worse, they can take ages and the stuff on there is in different parts of the store.
It is relentless. You rarely get a chance for a breather. There’s is a constant diet of energy drinks and ciggies in the mornings to get you through it. This is the 5am shift.
By 8am, you then have to prepare yourself for the customers despite being physically exhausted.
At least 80% of them are the worse that this country has to offer. You will serve rude, impatient and at least one drunk customer a day and a majority of them pay by cash which looks like it’s been buried in a garden for the last couple of years. Customers moan about everything especially the queues. Store theft is rife. You have to say good morning and most will just ignore you.

When they say "faced paced work environment" they actually mean you are constantly under pressure to get things done. They want things done at lighting fast pace and it is an awful struggle to keep up. You always feel like you're not good enough. Managers are always up the walls trying to get things done. Very early morning shifts (you have to wake up at 4am in the morning or earlier to start your 5am shift) plus very late nights quite often. The rota says you'll be finished by 10:30pm but this is BS. You could be there till 3am in the morning or on a very good day 11pm. They are constantly understaffed with people calling in sick plus the incredible work load you have already, even if everyone is in its still so much to do
Breaks are a joke; you must take your break when you are told even if you have only been in for 2 hours of your 10-hour shift. They also want you to clock out a minute before the clock hits the hour so they are by law only entitled to give you a certain amount of break time. For example, if you had an 8-hour shift, they would want to you clock out at 7 hours and 59 minutes so you don't have an hour break, you have a 30 minute one instead. I once did a 9-hour shift with no break because my rota only had me in for 5 hours (so 4 hours 59 minutes, aka not entitled to a break) and I was there till 3am (6pm-3am, 9 hours). I must add that your breaks are not paid for so if you don't have a break, you are paid accordingly, none the less its terrible, you are reck

On a 5 am start? Enjoy seeing a manager lose his temper when the previous shift didn't do all what they said they would and take it out on you.
Realise that at least one person hasn't turned up due to lateness or calling in sick
Doing Meat? Prepare to move incredibly heavy TKT's full of meat on an pump truck that has seen better days.
Open the TKT to be confronted with overloaded trays that are either impossible to pull out, or packets of meat that that just been thrown in there by the depot as they couldn't be bothered to stack it properly.
What's that on the floor or over your hands? Oh, its blood from a split packet.
Have said managers constantly challenging you to stack quicker while he or she is having a smoke outside
Remove out of date meat that wasn't removed the previous shift
Realise you haven't got enough time to do it so you just chuck it into the chiller anyway.
Doing fruit and Veg? Enjoy pulling a 6ft plus pallet of goods on a dangerously leaning tower on another pump truck. There could be 6 of them. Better be fit / strong. You will be physically ruined after it and you day has just begun.
Enjoy further harassment from managers in between their 'off the record' smoking breaks to make sure everything is ready by 8am
If you are not in the 'gang' you will then be destined to spend the rest of the day on tills dealing with constant abuse, inane questions and customers who treat it like a bank by throwing change at

I would be nice to my staff and not talk to them like they're dumb. Make the errors made a learning experience. Distribute work equally. Not play favorites. Not hang out on the loading bay having a cigarette break every 10 minutes. Definitely fire people who do not show up to work. Hold slackers accountable. Hire people who want to be there.
