Not the best job
I know the company is growing but the benefits and work life balance were tough. I did not enjoy working here. I felt no one was on the same team. Things may have changed

Good people to work with, not much on compensation or benefits.
Work with customers, try and agree to terms about rates giving us freight. Learned several things including negotiation skills, B2B relationships, and rates. Hardest part of the job, not getting caught up in the whirlwind. Most enjoyable part of the job is winning new business.

Very enjoyable place to work. Great benefits. Good People.
Very professional place to work. Enjoy the fast pace environment. The people are very family oriented. All the buildings are well designed and kept up, Cleanliness and Maintenance. If they were not cutting jobs right now I would still be working with them.
ProsGym, Professional Executive Staff. Open Door Policy.
ConsExtremly high stress jobs.

Not a bad company overall
I Used to sing the song of Knight Transportation when I started there 2 years ago. Now, I am avidly telling people to steer clear. I started as a driver and eventually moved into the Phoenix Terminal as the Driver Qualification Facilitator, basically I got the new guys hired in and did the "orientation" stuff. Pay was good but the office environment was absurd, nobody ever knew what was going on. Most of the new hires I befriended had major issues with getting decent equipment, rude driver managers and lackluster professionalism from the majority of the staff. Ultimately they would leave just weeks after starting. The Company is losing it's focus and slipping into a bad place.
Prosfree lunches (office staff)
Consnobody has a clue what they are doing.

work, work
you have a plethora of work through out the day beginning with running through your trucks to see who is on time and running behind . when you alert the appropriate party you then move on to planning trucks and finding loads for them. hardest part of the job is making everything work in everyone's favor. most enjoyable part is knowing that you helped someone make a living or got the home for that special event or doctors appointment.
Prospay, benefits, people in your own office
Conshigh stress, always on call, micro managed, working relationships with employees in other offices

Liked the job
I enjoyed working at Knight. Great people and challenging. Promotions were difficult if you weren't family or friends of family. Worked long hours, not usually recognized for the good work you do but definitely call you out if your driver is late or makes mistakes.
ProsNice offices
ConsLong hours

Questions And Answers about Knight Transportation

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Knight Transportation a better place to work?
Asked Nov 19, 2019
I would consider ALL drivers when announcing pay increases, bonus incentives and perks. Too many get left out of consideration
Answered May 21, 2021
Hire competent management!
Answered Oct 30, 2020
Knights drug test? What is it?
Asked Aug 2, 2017
Knight has an absolute 0 tolerance to drugs or alcohol. You will receive hair follicle and urine analysis and be required to submit fresh medical examination papers. I had a set that was a week old, they still made me go get new papers for them. They did a hair follicle and urine analysis at the terminal, it is the same requirement for any position in the company. Also, If you ever are found to have any trace of alcohol in your system, you will be fired.
Answered Aug 30, 2021
ATTENTION- Knight won’t hire you if you admit to doing any kind of drug within the last FIVE YEARS. It doesn’t matter if you can pass a hair follicle test ( 3 months back) or not. So lie on your application or they won’t even consider you.

A new driver might take home as much as $1600 a month. I've been driving for around 25 years, when I went to Knight I lasted 3 weeks. My highest paid week was $465.

Where do u do your training at if you already have your cdl
Asked Jun 17, 2016
Be prepared to do ALOT of team driving during your 4 weeks of driver training! The most uncomfortable I have ever felt was being forced to sleep while a complete stranger drives for 10 hours!
Answered Nov 7, 2018
I am pretty sure out of your local terminal.

Answered Dec 5, 2017
