Bad working invoroment
My job was good for 11 years until Kier took over.
Poor management, they do not listen as they know best and totally screwed the LOHAC contract in south London.
HR even worse,as soon as you complain about anything they get you out.
Don't work for them

Shambolic
Without doubt the worst company to work for.
Lies to from day one, job specification at interview stage turned out to be totally inaccurate.
Managers full of nothing but hot air, false promises and lies.
No care for employees welfare, too busy bending over and taking one from the client.
No leadership, direction, general support, told to just find out how things work yourself.
The group thinks it’s ok to wrongly tax the engineers for use of vans privately even though there is no use.
This particular site is like working in a Cold War silo, no heating, mould in the kitchen, discusting welfare facilities.
High staff turnover says it all. No one stays long for a reason.
Avoid Kier is my advise.
ProsCan’t think of any
ConsSenior managers, lack of structure, lack of resolution

Kier wxperience
The work to life balance was awful. 12 days at work, 2 days at home. For travelling men coming from likes or Scotland/Ireland, travelling for those 2 days was not an option. This caused friction between the workers (working 12) and management (working4-5days)
Taking home around £45000 a year and doing possibly an hours work a day at most.

Absolutely shocking company to work for lies after lies about wages and productivity being increased. Your told in the interview you'll earn 26k per year your lucky to earn 18k works out you take home £64 per day working 10hrs plus no overtime paid. The jobs actually not to bad but the pays terrible stay clear lads.

Working for kier
I've been working for kier for 25 months enjoyed the hard work as a supervisor on probably the biggest job in Europe I would recommend anybody to join kier if the opportunity arised .

Love this job, but...
Monitoring drivers; Adjustments to routs and operating plan. Vehicles breakdowns and recovery, accident reports and periodical maintenance. Induction and training of new driver.
Cannot say much about the management, blame culture, poor training skills; allow you to make mistake for which you are severely told off/yelled at and that how you learn.
4.0
Isolated , left alone .
Being isolated on a clients site and having to learn the processes from a line manager who himself was learning, compounded the problems even further . Being visited by the leadership team, taking up your valuable time and never being able to get the time back.

pleasure to get up to go to work.
I enjoyed my time working for kier plant and the many various sites my roll as crane operator/coordinator took me to,i would like to think that if the company had not decided to make all the operators redundant in 2010 before eventually folding the entire company that I would still be in full time employment in the company.
Prostax free lodge payments, long weekend every six weeks with pay.
Consworking away from home 95% of the time.

Poor senior managers
There is a severe lack of backing from senior managers and a very big culture of trying to blame people for problems that arise rather than finding the root cause and putting measures in place to prevent them from happening again

During my time at Kier I was trained to set up and obtain financial information and input them onto our system ready for any payment runs.
I also registered any invoices for the company on a daily basis and held one of the main telephone lines for the finance department.
My job was very demanding and I had a set time to complete most tasks, and always kept to this time.

Challenging but rewarding at times
Typical day was 07.00 to 21.00 approx. Tasks included reactive & proactive maintenance as well as a mountain of paperwork. Treated all staff (both school & KFS with respect). As a result my staff would do whatever I asked (I wouldn't ask them to do something I wasn't prepared to do). Hardest part was management above me - too many chiefs. Most enjoyable was receiving thanks & praise etc from school staff.
ConsMore work than there are hours in day to complete it. Lot of paperwork

Productive
Very stressful environment, but some really co-workers. Worked with the pre-con, commercial and site teams in the company. I gained extensive experience in the field and with the support of the colleagues it made for a well worth experience I would do again.
