Unattainable expectations
The FSA is the heart of the Head Start Program, the worker bee, responsible for making all the connections for families and students. The resources available for families in this area is phenomenal and making community connections was a definite highlight of this position. The families in the program were very appreciative of the FSA support, making home visits, trainings and events rewarding. The lack of communication within the program along with gaps in the internal systems of the program resulted in lots of confusion and made for conflicting priorities across management/leadership team.

Solid culture and benefits, challenged by an identity crisis and restructures
JLP is a great place to work. The culture, flexibility and benefits, in general, are very competitive against the retail market, and probably fairly competitive against other markets too. Everyone generally seems to enjoy working there, and there are lots of loyal employees with lots of service. There have been a lot of changes recently - new executive team, new leadership, lots of redundancies. There's been a new long-term plan, but it doesn't seem to have filtered through to the middle management/more junior employees yet. Understanding what is important and what work should be happening is difficult right now
ProsHealthcare/sick pay, discount, parenthood leave
ConsNo bonus at the moment, a 'too many cooks' culture, big changes leading to uncertainty

Very Innovative workplace
A very innovative environment. I learnt how to adjust to a rapidly evolving environment and learning new things fast. Management was incredible; very supportive and encouraged development and growth in employees. Co-workers were very supportive and flexible. Having to deal with high demands of knowledgeable customers. When goals are met and customers are satisfied as well.

As retail goes, not bad
Only a temporary position. Wasn't introduced to my manager, and they ignored my emails. Generally friendly and supportive team, however. Not very stimulating.

Unique co-owned retailer with a positive culture
John Lewis emphasise their status as a partnership; this ideology goes down to the core of the business. You are given the freedom and tools to exploit your skills and improve the partnership. This creates a culture of ownership and gives partners a great sense of pride. Management choose to focus on success and not dwell on failure. Your job and experiences with the company are very much in your hands, if you choose to embrace the culture it can be very rewarding. The downside to this is that some Partners can become entrenched, entitled and protective of their areas of responsibility, this can make it difficult for more enthusiastic Partners to progress through the company.
ProsEmployee benefits, positive culture
ConsDifficult to progress

Laid back place to make molten glass
I can get hot at times, but even so, every other week you might get beers and shrimp on the barby for lunch on Friday for no reason... It is molten glass. It’s pretty cool.

Management favouritism
Working as a customer service advisor was hard as the managers never wanted to take on escalated phone calls and they'd leave you to deal with the customer on the phone from 45 minutes to an hour, just to tell them that you'll arrange a call back.

Great Partnership!
Having always enjoyed working in the retail industry, I believe that working with the John Lewis Partnership will allow me to reconnect with my passion for great customer service. I have a strong passion for customer service and take joy in helping the customer feel special and confident when making a purchase. Even though working in a head office is not always customer facing, I know my support can assist team members to sell our product with confidence

Good employer
Lots of rules and regulations, but if you are happy to work hard and conform, the rewards and benefits are really good. They encourage open and honest culture and the benefits are brilliant.

John Lewis
Keeping a smile on your face while working with interestingly agitated customers> in Tech support Here the majority of customers we received were either unsatisfied with their product or needing something fixed as soon as possible. A select few would be looking for simple start up help. I learnt that patience above all else is key and eventually things fall into place if you remain calm. The workplace culture was hectic for the most part but there was never a dull moment. The hardest part of the job was dealing with angry, impatient customers without losing focus. The enjoyable part of the job was the resolution part when either a fix was archived or customer satisfied.

Challenging work with great colleagues
Working in a customer services environment the challenges of resolving queries and understanding the internal processes were upmost. The company is trying hard to protect the work force but have been forced into some very difficult decisions lately. A sense of fun is installed around the need to get the job done. Colleagues are all very supportive and always welcome new people into their family.
ProsGood benefits and discount after qualifying period.
ConsOperational 24/7 so hours and time can be a challenge.

Its still retail
Its retail so what do you expect? Its poor pay. The bonus is slowly eroding so that 'perk' is disappearing fast as is the job security as all of retail slowly succumbs to internet purchasing.

Customer assistant, Floor sale service, till service
I work full time at Waitrose during the night shift: I start working there from 22.00 till 06.00 in the morning and during these hours my main role is to unload the food and groceries from the trucks and put them in the supermarket floor. Before placing them on the selves I make sure to check the dates on the products and rotate them, to end I make sure to tidy everything up and give a nice display. Every three weeks I checks the products that can be made on sale or the products on promotion, to make sure I put them up on a nice display on the selves and promote them to the customers. Every now and then I do overtime where I work during the day time and help my colleagues in the till or in the customer service area. I get to serve any customers during the rush hours and help smooth the queue. When I work in the customer service area I get to help the customers with their complains and refunds for any products that they were unhappy with.

Great place to work
The John Lewis Partnership is a great place to work and there are many benefits. You are not just an employee, you are a partner and also get a bonus every year. I have leant many skills and experienced so much from my time here. I have improved and become a more confident person overall. It is a happy place to work. Making customers happy makes it all worth while, I think that's the most enjoyable part of the job.

Career progressive company, low pay
A well respected and caring company. I enjoy working in a large firm and the management is fairly consistent. The hours can be long and working weekends can also be a drag. It is mostly customer focused however with my Democratic Forum role I have been able to travel round the country and meet people from other areas of the business.

Great place to work
Lovely colleagues, good training, great place to work. Thoroughly enjoyed working at John Lewis. Left to accompany husband as he recently retired from the police service, intending to spend more time in Spain. recently sold holiday home there and am now familiarising myself with new surroundings. Retired far too early and i am keen and ready for a fresh start.

Good company benefits wise.
John Lewis is probably still one of the best companies to work for however as the market place gets ever more competitive decisions are being made which are affecting the whole ethos of the Partnership. Sadly this means that the staff or Partners as they are referred to are becoming a secondary priority. Wages poor but made up in benefits at the moment
ProsBenefits package
ConsPoor overall leadership
