By far the WORST place to work!!!!!
I was a Christmas temp at the Meadowhall JD and it was by far the worst job I have ever had!! Management are beyond a joke. They don't care about you or what's going on at home etc what so ever, it's all money money money. Want to make friends with you colleges on the shop floor while it's quiet??? Think again. Even so much as talking to another member of staff that isn't work related and I can assure you you'll be on toilet duty at the end of day. I did 11 hour shifts (at the age of 16) and got 20 minutes break because it's Christmas time and it's "busy" just made £200 from a customer with your amazing sales skills? Don't think you'll get praised, or even a well done. The girls are nasty and vile and the guys are players, I've met 2 people from there that I'm still friends with a year later, other than that, the whole company is a joke! We were making upto 120k a day near Christmas doing 10 hour shifts and only £4 an hour, management are beyond unprofessional and you NEVER finish on time. The staff look depressed (no wonder why) and if you're new or just a temp the believe me... Don't you know it! Being spoke down to would be an understatement, I was there 1 month and NEVER would I dream of going back to that absolute scum of a company.
ProsMade 2 decent friends.
ConsVile nasty staff, Poor management, Long hours, Spoke to like scum, long hours, whole company is a joke

Don't work here.......you'll be treated like rubbish!
A typical day at work...... Rubbish nothing to do....can't talk to other colleges, how pathetic! Management speak to you as if your stupid! They constantly moan at you for talking, even though they all talk rubbish to each other all day....the company is run absolutely rubbish! If your part time they cut your hours when they feel like it... But expect you to work everyday over Christmas..no thanks! What I've learned........ that I should have never handed my C.V into JD sports, or Scott's (I worked at the one in Manchester.....rubbish....) Hardest part of the job...... Being on your feet all day bored, stroking clothes! Most enjoyable part..... Got on with all other sales assistants, as everybody's in the same position hates it....working there until something better comes up....that's why the staff turn over is so rubbish...because people leave willy nilly! Some people don't even last a day haha that's how bad it is.... When I handed in my notice all my managers ignored me...they were annoyed and said "is she taking the ....."how pathetic! So in conclusion.....Don't hand your c.v into Jd sports as you'll hate it...they'll speak to you like s....and cut your hours! I could rant on more but I can't be bothered sitting here all day! RUBBISH COMPANY....anyone that says otherwise are stupid!

Work here at ur own risk
Depending what store you work at, it can be very stressful. I worked in a flagship store management was very nice and helpful when I first started, but I got made to hand my notice in when I made a small mistake On the tills. The staff was lovely and spoke to me on most shifts but hours was very long and as it was a London store I left very late. I was contracted for 8 hours but they made me do full time. Store manager didn’t take any notice in me but knew I was new and spoke about me to managers he didn’t even say hello. Managers would shout at other managers if they didn’t do there job during shutdown. Staff turnover is high because people don’t like it. It really depends what store u work in. I only got one hour break for a 9 hour shift. My store was very very fast paced and had long ques, during shutdown managers would rush us to hurry up on our section so we could go home. They would send me on break quite early into my shift. They would shout at you if standards weren’t done.

I worked for assist-recruitment as part of jd for around 11 weeks in Heywood distribution and was bullied off two girls what also worked there a manager and team leader I think this company is a total sham and joke even though I was bullied for a number of weeks I still had to work and see these vile people everyday it wad awful they laid me off two days before Christmas and then two weeks later I found out the manager was seeing these girls out of work and got sacked I was really annoyed I lost my job through this as I was never late worked my fingers to the bone not a good company to work for I wish I never spoke out now but o have been told I may have a case now so hopefully something mite come out of it

Was a fun work environment
The management that work in store such as the supervisors, AM, and GM have been really great and see that you could have advancement. The district manger is very controlling does not promote the people who are qualified who are at the store. The district manager micro manages a place that doesn’t need to be micromanaged. He has had very minimal good ideas to help the store organization. Has changed things that were easier to find and understand how to get them before he said something and has constantly changed places for things that should t constantly be moving. Also changes priorities constantly for no reason when he is present in the store. Some employees can be difficult to deal with.
ProsGood people and discount

If you are into sneaker culture, this job will a breeze for you
Title says it all. As long as you're a fan of sneaker culture, as in, you love shoes (Jordans, Nike, heck even New Balances), you're going to do awesome at JD. I personally wasn't a shoe guy, but even I could vibe with the shoe culture. People who come in are gonna ask you about shoes, new shoes, what shoe to buy, where they can find a certain shoe, and if you know about shoes, this job won't even feel like work. Plus, the shoe discount is pretty decent.
ProsAmazing for shoe lovers, that complicated, decent wage, nice people

Decent
It wasn’t extremely bad, the experience gained from it was necessary I’ve learnt a lot about what I can and cannot handle. management wasn’t great, they were great people l but very few of them actually knew how to run the store properly as they were never really trained to run a store. All the stuff that need to be done in the store rarely ever got done and a lot of the blame was put on the rest of the staff. I’ve had about 4 different managers at jd and only 1 of them was able to get everything done each day. Plus the pay wasnt great

Too much for too little
Management forget I have an education, 9.5 hour shifts for £4.05 per hour is not suitable at all. I did more work than all of the senior management and elder colleagues and had no benefits or pay rise. Moody customers, boss decided to add days to my rota where I previously specifically said I could not work, was sick once and received none of my sick pay. Not a job to have and balance an education with. Lunch breaks were too short

Only take this job if you have a passion for being humiliated
I worked at the Argyle Street branch in Glasgow, this is a newly opened store and JD Sports must have decided to send all their worst employees to manage it. A typical day at work would consist of standing for 8 hours and being treated horribly by management. What I have learned from this job is when starting any future jobs, look out for signs that management are bad to their staff and get out of there before I am dependent on the pay (not that it's good). The management in this store have their on clique and they are all in agreement with treating the general floor staff like dirt, almost like the popular kids at school, maybe they were jealous. There has been multiple cases of bullying, and when any one of the staff stands up to any one of the gang, that is management, they find a way to get them out the door. There is no management in the store that you can speak to about this as they all work together in their attempt to make working life miserable for the staff. Examples of this is changing hours to 12 hour night shifts, with less than a weeks notice, or having staff finish at 9.40pm (40 minutes unpaid) and starting the next day at 7am, if your finishing time wasn't at the store closing time, then it's most likely you will have to work up to 40 minutes after your shift unpaid, any attempts to inform management you need to leave due to other commitments were ignored and they just repeated that you could not leave until they instructed so. Worst job ever
I worked at the JD warehouse at kings way in Rochdale and found it hard work you would constantly be watched by team leaders supervisors and managers and could not stop for literally a minute because you would be told off and threatened that they will give you a strike and there rules are 3 strikes and you get fired. Security would walk around like bosses and constantly try checking you for any chewing gum or sweet or anything else that was banned such as labelled clothing although I worked there for over a year the only reason I stayed that long was because it was the workers that I became good friends with that kept me there. They work on 4days on 4 days off rota and I worked 12 hour shifts they would not let me reduce my hours or days and threatened me that I would be fired if I did so. The management/supervisors walk around constantly looking down at ordinary members of staff and will never acknowledge anything that you have achieved. Your basic human rights are not acknowledged here and no legislation was followed here they have a bullying culture in this company and management will never accept any complaints no matter how genuine if you get hurt here or anything bad happens be prepared for a fight because they have a team of lawyers that are paid to take every case to court. Assist agency who provide JD sports with staff is the worst agency who literally give there workers no rights and are not willing to even listen to their your side they will fire you without a sec

Mgmt is so Poor. Staff are great.
I worked at JD Stanstead for a month and 2/3 weeks on a 40hr contract as a Sales Assistant. JD is a good place to work for anyone young (as in below the age of 20). This place is okay to start off as something temporary. You can definitely get a better job elsewhere so don’t settle. Pros Nice Uniform, Sales Assistant Staff and Supervisors. Work Environment. Cons Worst place I’ve worked ever. Pay(your paid according to your age) and is the least paying job in the airport, I used to work at the airport for 9p/h, at 19 that’s very good pay. Rota (I worked 5 days in a row one week and had a day off to then go and work another 4 in a row with a day off). Poor Management. They Operate somewhat based on favouritism. The store Manager decides when they want to be stern & serious and who to. In simpler terms some days they seem to care and tell you off about things they hadn’t before, other days the don’t seem to care and somewhat seem very relaxed. No bonuses for performance/Sales. You don’t even get the discount they tell you about in the interview or contract. (Some staff members had to wait 6/7months for theirs). No proper training provided at the start like most normal jobs (they just talk through it and tick it off the list, if your lucky to have nice colleagues like I did you can ask them to show you how to do things) other than that it’s a learn as you go type of thing as you do get better after some time.

A very fast paced exciting environment to work in.
A typical day for me would be going into store and gathering my team and junior managers around me. I will open my chat with a good morning and ask how everyone is. I then get into the more serious stuff such as sales targets for the day/the week and what we are on so far if it is not a Sunday as this is the first day of our week. When this is finished I start at the front of the store with my assistant manager of supervisors and I fill out a detailed floor walk of what is wrong with the branch and what can be done to fix it. Once this is completed the tasks are prioritised by myself and then broken down to the different staff my junior management of who has to do what and in what order. The main thing staff need to remember however is that customer service comes first and tasks given are secondary. Before staff go home usually about 30 minutes beforehand we will walk their department to see what has been achieved and to what standard and also what still needs to be done and by who. The job list will be passed on the staff member on the changeover shift and this will continue until the tasks are all complete. During my day I spend most my time observing what's going on in my branch and usually leave the day to day running to my junior management. In quieter periods I tend to go to the office where I will complete paperwork that must be done daily but also to complete rotas and other office admin which varies quite a bit depending on what day it is. Tedious, i compare my self to cattle.
Workers at JD are not valued for their skills or their hard work, they are merely there to service a purpose as a worker regardless of their opinions or views. The company employs with an intent to get as much work out of the individual as possible without giving much back. I feel like i am part of a cattle branch and i am simply used to get as much of their work done as i can. I was working for the company for around 2 weeks and even after this period they were ringing me asking if i wanted to attend an interview. This simply shows their organisational and have no idea who there employees even are for that matter. Many people are fired for simple mistakes, although you are employed on a permanent temporary contract so you cannot really argue. The company wants to get as many people as they can through the doors to do their work and not give any applause or recognition for it. They do not take into account that i would be able to do other jobs such as using IT software to maybe utilize my skills and take into consideration my suggested improvements. Many of the workers are given a task where they have to stand still for over 11 hours sticking labels onto clothes without anything such as a chair or a mat to cover the hard concrete floor below them. Even a simple stool would make the job more enjoyable and the work rate would probably increase. I have not really met many people who have worked their for a duration of over 2 months which shows their high rate of employee turnove

Its fun when your young...
A typical day at work includes interacting with customers, ordering a variety of products. If the customer orders shoes, the order will be given through a "Walkie-Talkie" or a scanner depending on which store. Frequently customers order online which will be delivered to the till by stockroom assistants. Regular checks of footwear and material standards are also crucial to up-keep the presentation of the store. There was a few things I learned while working at JD Sports. Your knowledge on urban products increase over time also knowing how to keep the presentation of either footwear or materials improve over time. You learn how to navigate customers to the product they are looking for online and can be shipped to their home or if necessary to their local JD outlet. I can not vouch for every manager under JD Sports stores but Management in JD Sports Stratford was the worst I have seen and worked for. little things such as staff lunches un-organised, staff rota's where always last minute, if a staff member did call in sick they did not have a safety staff member to fill in inside the store, therefore, calling up other staff members on their day off who are reluctant to come in, sometimes putting people jobs on the line if they did not attend (On their day off!).. Very friendly work environment
Start by doing housekeeping on the shop floor. When the shop opens there is a variety of task to be undertaken. There may be folding which may need to be completed or a new delivery to be processed or cutomers that may need help finding the products they want. Everyday is different. Throughout the day, I may will be standardising textiles and making sure they are looking presentable for customers. As well as this I may have to cover other staff members when they go on break or if they additional help in different sections of the store. For example, when the footwear section is very busy I may be asked to help out in that section until the store dies down and then return to my original tasks for the day. At some point during the day I will have my break which I love and hate at the same time because only one member of staff can be on break at a time so you are usually alone. At the end of the day, we will usually stay unto 2 hours after the store shuts in order to make the store presentable for the next working day. This is my favourite part of the day as I can chat with other staff while I work deal my remaining tasks. My least favourite part of the job is dealing with the mountain of tasks that I am given everyday. I feel that we heavily understaffed and at Christmas, even though we were drafted in as Christmas temps, I feel that not enough staff were taken on board as we struggled to cope with amount of customers that we had as well as keep the store presentable and do al

Fast paced, busy enviroment, good opportunities, good hours, fun workplace, friendly staff and management
Overall working at JD was not the best experience when it came to my job itself and the management. I loved the challenge, the hard work, constantly running around chasing up shoes, serving people, dealing with issues on shop floor or on the phone. I loved the fact I was given so much responsibility such as being in charge of running in and out shoes from the lift room, carrying out slacks at a time, made it fun by giving myself goals of how many I could carry out at a time, my best was 12. Anyway I was seen as a senior member of staffs and made me feel great knowing they could rely on me and could leave me to run footwear by myself, deal with the issue that arose at till or in footwear and on the phone, whilst managers are dealing with other issues somewhere else in the store or upstairs when it got busy which was all the time. The responsibility built my confidence, enhanced my knowledge and taught me knew things, skills and perspectives within the retail workplace. they started to train me and give me management responsibilities and knowledge such as running footwear, delegating sections for close down and during work and teaching me virtual merchandising, price checking and IBT the stock and footwear ect. I got on with many people there which made my experience positive however the negatives were not only the pay of £4.75 and being demanding upon present injuries and creating them which then impacted my personal life, work life, mental health due to it being su

Horrible place to work!
I felt like I got picked on because of my age the managers speak to you with no respect at all especially one manager who wouldn’t let me speak at all even if it was asking a colleague where something goes ! If you wanted to ring in sick or to say you was stuck in traffic they never answered the phone. Managers think they are so above you and do not respect you at all. No proper training was given I got told to use all different kind of things without being told how to use them and what for. As I am under 18 I currently can’t drive I used to finish my late shift and they would keep me so I would miss my bus home with no other transport of getting home when I told them repeatedly my last buss is at a certain time !!! When your shift ends I got told I couldn’t leave unTIL a manager told me I was alowed to finish my shift. My breaks used to be given to me 2/3 hours until I had to finish baring in mind I had 9 hour shifts, I was also working 44 hours a week! I would be on the shop floor just me and another colleague on a early shift until 10Am which in that time since we opened management used to tell me I had to do delivery, stock check, do standards, serve people but moaned when I couldn’t do it all at once !! Very high standards but shop gets messy so quick and it’s ever so hard to keep it clean and neat. I would not recommend JD for a first job or a last job. I was never alowed to finish my breakfast in the morning when I was on a esrly , was denied to getting a drink from th
