Rejoined Sainsbury's for the summer period as Customer Assistant working in a variety of areas from re-stocking shelves for ambient, bakery, fresh and produce lines, working in the back-door area unloading and sorting goods ready for restocking and working on the checkout tills both assisted and Self Service. Had also been accepted for training as an Online Delivery Driver covering sickness and shortage of staff. This included ‘picking’ runs prior to the groceries being sorted and loaded on the vehicles.

Lots of hours, good people.
The company is rapidly changing, to compete with discount retailers, as such more work is expected from less staff. If you are efficient this is not a problem. As the old systems were very inefficient.

Interesting and fun place to work
I enjoy the customer interaction the most within my job,
It has helped me to improve my customer service skills and confidence interacting with new people.
I work within a store which has over 800 other colleagues so working with other people and as part of a team is very important.
I work on the checkouts, self service and kiosk. I enjoy my job and interacting with customers. I dislike the fact that it has started to become less challenging and more repetitive.

Made some greatfriends
Shop work is shop work-same everywhere really. I made some great friends here and also the odd enemy. There is always that one person you don’t click with! This job fitted round my family life so worked in that way, but the pay was never great, got better after I left though 😳

Poor quality employer
Poor work culture as there's too much favouritism and inequality. Work is not shared evenly and there's much time wasting and fault finding. Incessant complaining at tribalism.

ok until it got competitive and unprofessional
In the period i was working for the company,i enjoyed the job till managers above me got competitive/unprofessional with me. But i would say not all are the same.

Varied
In the store's I worked in, I had some great manager's and some awful manager's. Just like colleagues, some manager's have favourites and are more favourable to them. However that's not every manager.

High of amount of change taking place at the moment.
Sainsbury's Argos is under-going a significant amount of change currently resulting in high levels of uncertainty for almost all employees regarding the future of their roles. This is being completed without a great deal of thought being given to how this impacts on employees or helping them to understand the reasons for these changes.
ProsFlexible approach to working hours, good work life balance
ConsUncertain future for staff.

Fast paced with lots of opportunity through change
Sainsburys are operating in a tough retail environment and face continual change in order to stay ahead of competition and be able to deliver an experience where customers love to shop wherever and whenever they choose.
This provides an expanding opportunity to grow and develop.
