Temporary job
Have to deal with rude management and customers. Some customers are absolutely amazing but many times I have been verbally or physically harassed by older male customers. In the beginning it was a great job and they do well with working with your schedule. Over time the environment becomes quite toxic.
ProsCo-workers
Conslow pay, no benefits, small room for promotion

Good starter job
Worked at a few different locations and all were basically the same. Coworkers rarely want to help with different areas, customers treat you lowly and it's almost impossible to get more than the 25 cents yearly raise or full-time employment. If you manage to get full-time you do get 1 week paid vacation after being full-time for a year and 40 hours holiday and sick pay immediately. Unfortunately, sick pay can only be used if you. have a doctor's note for 5 consecutive days. Overall it pays the bills (barely) but isn't somewhere where you can move up or make a career.
Prospaid time off, flexible schedules
Conslimited benefits, low pay

Just an okay place to work
When working at Ingles Market, I found myself to be at a stand-still and no way to move up or advance. The people were nice, however some of the management styles were not something that I was comfortable with. I found myself taking on more loads of work for other people while having very low compensation. Though I met some great people and formed great friendships, Ingles was a good starting job for a high school senior/young working college student.
ProsPeople
ConsPoor hours, low pay, subpar management

Work is easy, certain store management is childish
Overall the job is quite simple and the customers are friendly for the most part. However certain employees/management act extremely childish and set up the entire social interactions between other employees to be similar to that of young, immature teenagers, despite them being "adults". In short, the company is alright, just certain locations have immature employees/management
ProsEasy work environment
ConsChildish employees/management

Ok to start out but hard to move up without someone leaving. Hard to get full time.

Busy, productive day while working as shift leader on Boar's Head meatcase
My typical day at work starts at an upbeat pace at 06:00 and ends, likewise, at 14:30. The pace rarely slows! I have learned to work in a group with multiple unmotivated co-workers, which has been my greatest challenge. The hardest part of the job is conveying important messages to the management team that is on different levels of communication and knowledge about current events/circumstances. On the contrary, the most enjoyable part of the job is when a customer expresses sincere gratitude for helping him/her, whether or not the request is large or small. It makes me happy to know that my customer is happy!
ProsBreak time provided
ConsInconsistent work schedule, lack of communication on multiple levels

Baker is fun, enjoyable, and productive
I loved working in the Bakery, not the Deli. I know what to do and do what is needed. I have learned how to work a cash register. And the hardest part of the job is doing too many things at once.
ProsGet a pay check every week and keeps me busy during the week, meet new people
ConsPay is low.

Company is a health care facility and employees only caring individuals.
Enjoyed the opportunity to learn about a little about marketing and a previously unknown software program. Have always enjoyed serving others. Met many interesting people with high level international employment backgrounds.
ProsStaff is very caring and supportive.
ConsChallenging commute due to heavy traffic.

Deli Customer Service
I like working with the customers day by day. I have met many interesting people (customers and co-workers). It is a totally different experience than working in the corporate world for the past many years. I enjoy dealing with the customers/public. Customer service is my highest priority regardless of what posistion I hold. My management has been flexible with my schedule which I really appreciate. The hardest part of the job has been that my manager has had to cut hours and there aren't enough people to fill all the positions. I try to stay to fill the spots, but need to watch my hours. The most enjoyable part of my job is helping people. I worked in IT and helping people was the main part of the job. I know working at a deli is not the same, but customer service is customer service. It's all about making the customer feel comfortable and want to come back.
Prosflexible schedule
Constoo few employees

Questions And Answers about Ingles Markets

How often do raises occur at Ingles Markets?
Asked Oct 5, 2016
Once a year, maybe
Answered Jan 14, 2020
About once a year
Answered Feb 2, 2019
If you were in charge, what would you do to make Ingles Markets a better place to work?
Asked Aug 8, 2018
Listen to all sides of an issue before believing one person over the other. Try to resolve the issue instead of stirring up the pit and firing someone. Put priorities in place. Appreciate employees more by saying: good job, well done and thanks for your help. Get to the facts instead of using gossip as your tool for settling an issue. Help out departments that are begging for help instead of lying to them and leading them on. Be truthful. Listen to employees and care. Stand up and beside your employees before berating them in front of customers and coworkers. Be honest. Care. Respectful. Compassionate. Put yourself in employees shoes instead of brushing them off like a fly on your shoulder. Don’t ask employees if they’ve taken their meds today.

How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at Ingles Markets? What are the steps along the way?
Asked Aug 29, 2016
4 days tops
Answered Feb 15, 2021
It takes about 2 days that's how desperate they are, the turnover is horrible. The reason why is because they lie to you, they don't pay but 9.00 an hr. And expect people to make a living off of that, THEY DO NOT GIVE RAISES
Answered Dec 27, 2018
What is the most stressful part about working at Ingles Markets?
Asked Oct 25, 2016
The most stressful thing working at ingles is the way your treated. They do NOT give raises no matter how good of an employee you are. They want to keep the wage low as possible and their products as high as they can. I've been at ingles in Lenoir City Tn. for 9 months, haven't been late or missed 1 day and they haven't offered anything, not even as much as hey ur doing a good job. You do the work of two people. They pile as much as they can on u.

What type of drug test do they use?
Asked Mar 13, 2017
No drug test anymore unless you’re getting hired for a job with cash management involvement. If so, it’s a mouth swab drug test.
Answered Jan 31, 2021
I think it depends on the store. I had to have a gauze "bullet" in my mouth for 5 minutes. Was not allowed to touch it - had to spit it back into the plastic container...
