Rushed all the time
It was ok to start with but after a few weeks you get moaned at if your not fast enough emptying your full cages within 45 mins and it doesnt help when other people dump stuff on your cage also , then you help customers around the shop aswell as going on the till once in a blue moon its all the favourites that get picked for till work and the rest have to run ragged around the shop and you work 4
hours before you get a break 30 mins for 8 hour shofts which is not good hours
Overall the worst place I’ve ever worked! Worked with the company over 2 an a half years but the last year working for the company was the worst year of my life! Management don’t care and some often pick on younger naive members of staff. Leads sales are expected to do absolutely everything whilst management sit and gossip in the office all day! GDPR doesn’t exists in this company. Avoid at all costs!!!
ProsNothing
ConsManagement, shifts run over all the time, gossiping 24/7, list goes on
Worst job I've ever had no WLB because you are force to work on past your finishing time you have a rota but it's ignored the manager is one of the worst I've ever worked under more bothered about his bonus than the staff
ProsNone
ConsWork life balance doesn't exist management don't have a clue

If you work hard don’t work here they will take advantage of you
I worked at Home bargains last year and I felt I didn’t have life. Too much pressure with management and they gave less job for favourites ones and too many tasks for rest of staff. Favourites ones were talking between them and other staff working like slaves. Customers were extremely rude and with no culture and kindness. If you are a happy person don’t work here they will take your happiness from you and transform you in someone like them.
Not enough hours are given. The work is not much stressfull during off hours though the management make it miserable by keep telling you to work swiftly which isn't always possible.
ProsNot much
ConsNot enough hours if you are looking to work part time, no job security, they don't offer Tier 2 contract either..
Very poorly managed company that expects way too much from its employees. Constant cut backs, a lot of favouritism between senior store management and certain staff which leads to being treated unfairly. Quite often forced into unexpected and short notice overtime and staff are constantly bickering and gossiping between themselves. It's a horrible place to work with some of the worst people I've ever met. The company boasts to the public how well it treats its staff but the reality is they treat us like absolute garbage. It used to be a family ran business but it's now running as if it was a major supermarket and they have no idea what they're doing anymore.
ProsIt's a job
ConsIt's the worst job you'll find in this sector, be prepared for constant stressand anxiety
You're just a number, they won't listen to you or get back to you when you ask questions. Say one thing and do another, poor communication. Management always on phones on unrelated work.
All the staff that work there are very friendly, include everyone and make you feel welcome. Some management let the power go to their heads but you get that everywhere you go.
Shifts can be a little frustrating since you can be scheduled in for any day of the week at any time between 5am and 8pm even if you have young children to take care of.
Home Bargains take security of the store and their colleagues very seriously which is great.
ProsAbove national minimum wage, friendly staff.
ConsManagers can be somewhat awkward about shifts, tricky to change shifts.
Overall it’s a great place to work. It was a new store and a newly assigned manager. I think the manager needed more training and could of benefitted from some more training in store.
I enjoyed working with customers, filling shop shelves, cashing up and being a team member. Also needed more hours which were fixed as they varied every week.
Wouldn't recommend working here treat and talk to their staff like something on your show take phones off you like working in a slave house absolutely disgusting team leaders and management.

Part time position during Saturdays and Sundays | Cwmbran | Aug 21, 2014
Work Environment
2014 May - Present, Home Bargains, Cwmbran
Part time position during Saturdays and Sundays, I spend equal time working on the tills and also replenishing stock. My hours are during the busiest time of the week and this position can be very pressurised especially when the tills are busy and there is a queue of customers. I have to remain calm and offer customers a friendly but professional service.

Retail
I poperate the tills serve customers
Stock shelves
Help customers within the store
Working as a team with other staff
Stock rotate
Help people with problems
typical day to day work:
4 hour shifts which includes putting stock out from a day to day delivery on shelves. working withing a team of 10 people to ensure the ship floor is tidy and is in correct order.
i learned on how a good team put together as management can help achieve specific targets that are set by higher management and also learnt to work more individually to gain self confidence and motivation to do better.
This job was secure and I always got the average hours that I wanted. The supervisors and management were really helpful and friendly. The shop floor assistants were friendly and fun to work alongside.
Management is absolutely awful aswell as the colleagues
I worked here for just under a year and every day was stressful, there is a culture if bullying between colleagues and aswell as the staff, I witnessed people talking behind the backs of others, Lead sales were awful for it, family stuck with each other and one colleague was the actual worst, she would stare at you like an angry troll! I saw the manager shout and swear at colleagues and also he would stand at the end of the isles watching fill shift put out stock trying to intimidate them for no reason at all! The place is very two faced and lacks any type of management skillset! It's the worst place I've ever worked. I wouldn't wish a job at home bargains norwich on my worst enemy. swearveodd!
Early morning start. First of all would make sure the store is ready to open, tills, check fridges and freezers, bread, and see to the delivery. later open store and do staff searches. Run the fill shift. At all times seeing to till calls and customer enquiries. Also doing price tickets for new stock and placing new stock on shelves. If we were short staffed I jump would in and help. When doing a full day, I would also oversee the afternoon rebuild team which was to tidy all aisles in the store. When the store closed the staff would do their shopping and when they had left I would till up and recheck the fridges and freezers to make sure for dates and damaged stock and to make sure they were tidy. In office I would see to the daily cashing up and paperwork. As leaving make sure no damaged items are left for the next shift the following morning. Finish rest of paperwork in the stockroom.
I found that a lot was taught me, but a lot I had to learn by picking it up myself. Information was never forthcoming.
Management were ok but, putting up with bad tempers and picking and changing of minds and using your ideas as their own. I found that they did not build confidence up in any staff member. Staff breaks were few and far between. They did not know when they were going to a break, sometimes they would go over six hours, this was down to the manager when they were to go.
Co- workers, till staff and floor staff majority were good to work with. I found that if I said please and
Extremely enjoyed working here, was one of my better jobs cause i really settled in the routine.

Not a great place
It’s not the worst job, but it’s not great. You’re mistreated quite a lot and looked down on quite a lot too. Progress will be difficult unless you fit in with the management team. The rate of pay isn’t great and if you want to earn a wage that’ll see you through a week, then you have to do split shifts and can’t go over 39 hours. The company refuses to pay overtime, so you might find you’re sent home once you hit 39 hours. You could also be asked if the hours could be transferred over to next week. Management go out for cigarettes all the time, whilst you get 15 minutes breaks, or half an hour. If you make a mistake, you’re made fun of in front of your staff members and if you don’t own up they check back on the camera and you find yourself in trouble. The mistake will be something as little as, putting something in the wrong place. The shifts can be enjoyable with staff members, but if you’re caught talking or having a laugh the whole team gets punished. Everyone will be called into the warehouse, you’ll then be assigned more work before you can leave. Home Bargains has put me off retail work for life, I would never do it again. Contracts are awful too, you’re paid pennies for time off.
ProsStaff members
ConsPoor pay, management not great, contracts are awful, just not a great place to work
never enough staff on so puts pressure on cashiers constantly calling for help with queues. the job itself is ok quite enjoyed working on the tills but management spoilt the atmosphere.
Enjoyed interacting with the customers.
