It's a job
20 years and I'm still on same rate. It's paid my bills but you get no recognition ..stuck in a rut need to move on and start enjoying my work .It's a job that's works around your life but no incentive or progression.
I worked at the strategy department. Hermes was a raw diamond when I joined and it was a blessing being able to develop and implement strategies helping Hermes to get to the next level
Youve gotta be very lonely person to do this job its an absolutly awful place to work over worked ,draining and thats not from hard work its from being bord out your mind while your stuck in a trailer off loading thoustands of parcels for hours and hours to the point you wonna walk out your that fed up,i was hoping the parcels crushed me so i could escape this nightmear and that was just in bound.....out bound well what can i say if you recive your 50" tv and it broken then yes its been thrown on the trailer at full speed absolutly shocking things ive seen on my 4 days that i lasted befor i had to leave due to wanting to end it all....the parcels are not cared for at all throw kicked dropped just so they can hit there parcel rate thats 1000 per hour doable if your a robot and on cokane.....just shocking i will never use hermes for my parcels after what ive witnessed....coffee tasted and looked like cat wee Toilets were lways blocked (cleaner needs sacking) (warrington) ive done some pritty rubbish jobs in my time but this was the cherry on the cake just the worst unless you can compleatly switch off from life, the world and your job go for it ,if not avoid youll last a week and want to throw yourself of the nearest bridge managers pester you on ur second day thst u need to go faster as ur not doing enough i was doing over 500 parcels an hour my second day was told it wasent good enought very repetitive job.
Dont get me started on the pay
ProsThe 40 mins break you get to feel sane again
ConsThe whole dam place, pay, repetitive, lonely work, pay
I've worked as a courier for Hermes for over 2 years. Never had a pay increase, in fact recently they reduced everyone's parcel rates. The depot is a nightmare, not enough parking spaces to load and only 3 vehicles can load undercover which means everyone else gets wet including parcels. I average 50 pence per parcel, which means 200 would give me £100. But for 11 hours work its not much. Also fuel, insurance etc all has to come out of the pay. So works out to be not profitable
terrible communication from management
Haven’t a clue how much a round pays
Covering 2 rounds and working 9.30 until about 4.30 probably going to get about £50 a day but it’s all base rates and averages
Have worked here for 16 years am happy with the work family balance I have. I deliver around the village I live in so know the majority of my customers personally. I bring home a decent wage every month (1600) for Jan brilliant second income am happy
Terrible place to work treatment of service provider is horrific. No compassion or consideration for workers and the management is truly the worst ever
Do not work for them, they promise the earth and lie to get you started, then you find 6 weeks later your rates are no where near what they offered.
Yes 6 weeks between payments.
A good working environment and culture, satisfactory pay, effective work duties, good management, I would recommend this work to someone else too, good premises.
I could write a book about working at Hermes brooklands weybridge.
I could write a book about working at Hermes brooklands weybridge, I have never worked in anywhere like it & i worked there for over 10 year's, Totally unorganised not enough staff every night or mostly every night, People walking out that had just started that night etc,etc i could go on but i will not as anyone who has worked for Hermes would say the same all the depot's are the same & have a big turn over of staff & accident's happening in all their depot's, Broken equipment especially pump trucks that don't pump & need servicing where they have fallen off the back of the lorry or something & the electric pump truck's & even the forklift's sometimes, Wheels broken on the cages we used, Broken brooms etc you name it i'm being serious, You have never seen a work place like it, You relied on a text message every day from when i started there not just me but everyone telling you what time the shift / shifts are starting, Mostly all the time there was never enough time throughout the night too get everything put down the belt sometimes it would be a big push too get everything down the belt the reason could be late trailers & van's or there was more volume then expected with the amount of staff etc, etc, Every workplace does not run like clock work but that all depends how organised the workplace is etc,etc & it is probably still the same now & in all their depot's, No one care's & the amount of stealing that goes on is unreal, I could go on & on but i will just leave it here, H
If you're lucky, you'll maybe get £100 - £200 a week. Loading procedures do not exist and you won't get any help from what they call field managers. All you get is the zero hours possible chance of maybe picking up a day or two at stupidly low parcel rates (41p per parcel in town/city locations). You get to use your own vehicle with all the wear and tear and maybe break even in a year. Their phone app (yeah, you have to use your own phone too) is useless and the scanner only picks up part of the time. You get 4 weeks of access to their route optimisation software but really it does nothing and cannot work out ETA's. The mapping software is so vague you may as well sling your drops in a field and take a photo mid air saying 'well, I got it as close as your f**king software'. Really, if you want to work as a courier, these are not the people to apply to, even if you're totally skint. I worked as a central London dispatch rider for years without missing a day, the routes and management here are scary and the rates below minimum wage, way below.
Very poor of management team that I force to quit and need lots get improve thing that shame I left because I was enjoy meet all at shop staff it alway smile & happy when drop delivery & collect pick up
If all done improve that I would be stay

Avoid at all cost!!!
No hygiene in any buildings
Management always on breaks and never take on any responsibility or do any work themselves
No job security
So much Favouritism- only way to work your way up is to kiss upto management
Use workers when busy and throw them away afterwards
Management do not appreciate any work
Expect you to bend over backwards for the busines, when they can’t do the same for employees-expect to work extra hours with no pay or notice
If you’re friends with the management, you can get away with anything (not do work, take longer breaks)
Management have no people skills-treat workers like animals

Good workmates
Had the worst line manager paul curnane a total bully i loved my job but was forced out by this guys and i really miss the team there excellebt staff and people
Lots of fresh air. Each day was different, depending on the area being allocated.
Courier in Stirlingshire area , with no two days being the same. The job pace was quick with up to 120 parcels each day. When the weather was good, a most pleasurable job.
I have a proven track record of managerial experience and training people to a high standard.
My knowledge comes from over ten years in the customer relations field and I have grown with each new promotion.
However, now I feel a career path is what I wish to gain at this stage of my life.
Given the opportunity I would relish the challenge of a job like this and showcase my abilities to your company.
I work excellent within a team environment and equally as good when working alone is required.
Hermes allowed me to improve on already learnt skills and become better as a person and as a working professional.
ProsExtra pay good rates for weekend and bank holidays.
very poor field management, always on phone sorting somerhing, normally no pay in bank, always having to wait on vans appearing late, then getting limited time to deliver, i t was a poor experience i have to say, would not recomend to a friend,,,
Spent 12 years working at Hermes doing different management roles throughout the Scottish Network, Edinburgh, Perth, Eurocentral depots
The salary's that are offered are industry leading but in turn you are expected to be available 24/7 7 days a week and it is also impossible to take your annual leave due to work commitments.
Bonus system is good but criteria isn't always fair as lots of the measures you need to meet are outwith your control.
Since I've left the company seem to be finally listening ref depot structure so I would recommend working with Hermes.
ProsPay, Bonus
ConsSupport when your are new to a role, Hours, Family friendly, Communication within higher management

What tips or advice would you give to someone interviewing at Hermes?
Asked Feb 7, 2020
TELL THE TRUTH base rates, averages, allowances for your data used, mileage allowances from last delivery to home. That is not how I can work out my earnings for delivering your parcels. Have one minimum price and tell the courier exactly what he is earning we all do the same job so should get the exact same price!!!!!
