Job Classification: Entry-Level Firefighter

The Denver Civil Service Commission and the City and County of Denver Fire Department is building an eligibility list for the Fall 2022 Entry-Level Firefighter academy. All candidates must first complete an application with the City and County of Denver in Workday and also take the FireTeam exam through National Testing Network. The Denver Civil Service Commission will periodically pull eligibility lists and may close the posting at any time based on the department's hiring needs.
Employment Requirement : City Employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 30, 2021. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination prior to starting employment.
The department requires the candidate Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA) Parts 1 & 2. You can access these through your candidate account. NTN suggests completing the PSSA as soon as possible so there is not a delay in your process.

Responsibilities:
Under supervision, firefighters respond to fire alarms with assigned company and assist in extinguishing fires in the protection of lives and property; assist in cleaning and caring for apparatus, equipment and quarters; administer first aid treatment; assist in rescue work in various emergencies; and inspect buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances. At various points in their careers, firefighters may also be assigned to work in support divisions such as, but not limited to, human resources, fire dispatch, or fire prevention. Salary & Benefits: Pay and benefits for Denver Firefighters are determined by collective bargaining agreements between the City and County of Denver and local union officials. Generally, collective bargaining agreements are established for three-year increments. For 2022:

Hiring Process :
1. Complete Initial Application
You must first submit an application with the Denver Civil Service Commission. Upon completing the initial Workday application, if you do not immediately receive a disqualifying notification, you may schedule your NTN test. If you are notified via email that you do NOT meet the minimum qualifications, you may email the Denver Civil Service Commission to learn further details at csc.entry.fire@denvergov.org .

2. Testing
Once your application has been submitted AND if you do not receive a disqualifying notification immediately after completion, you may schedule to take the FireTeam Test with the National Testing Network (NTN). You will need to establish an account with NTN. There is a required fee to take the FireTeam Test. For information about Fee Waivers please contact NTN Candidate Support support@nationaltestingnetwork.com .
There are four components to the FireTeam test:
1. a video-based human relations test
2. a mechanical aptitude test
3. a math test
4. a reading test
Testing takes approximately 2 1/2 hours. Upon completion of the testing period, the Denver Civil Service Commission will review candidate test scores and notify those who are eligible to continue with processing. The Denver Civil Service Commission will also notify candidates who are not eligible to continue at this time.

About You
Minimum Qualifications :
Minimum age of 21 at time of application
Must have U.S. High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certification
United States Citizenship at time of application
Must have NO Felony Convictions
Valid Driver's License Candidates may have Colorado Residency at time of hire (Candidates must be bona fide residents of the State of Colorado at the time of appointment [hire]. There is no minimum time limit to establish residency.)
Visual acuity must be 20/30 binocular with or without correction. Uncorrected visual acuity must be 20/100 binocular or better for wearers of hard contacts or glasses. Firefighters with uncorrected acuity of less than 20/100 in either eye must carry a spare pair of glasses
