Terrible management
Poor management, poor pay, no training, lack of respect, lack of privacy, lack of information. Multiple people in my store got corona virus and the owners told no one. I didn’t find out until I asked a coworker who personally knew one of the people who got sick. The management is poor and you get yelled at for things that either aren’t your fault or things you weren’t even trained for. Schedules will drastically change without notice and they will schedule you when you aren’t available and then threaten your position when you ask them about it. They get mad at managers for product not selling/expiring when they won’t let us order. They constantly keep the store understaffed and won’t hire more employees nor give the current employees more hours to fill the gaps. They make cashiers take their lunches and breaks late because they won’t have enough employees at the store to cover them. Basically everyone in the store who works more than once a week is a supervisor but will still be deeply undertrained. If you tell a manager something personal about yourself, chances are they will tell other employees about it without your permission. They threatened my position and other managers positions for things that weren’t our fault. They over order or repeatedly order the same thing that isn’t selling and then yell at you when you have tons and tons of back stock of it. They expect you to be able to fit all product on the shelves when there is absolutely no room left and a pallet worth o
ProsFree expired food, really great coworkers
ConsPay is not fair for the work, no training, managers are money hungry

Retail work with no benefits
Empty promises. Poor management from the owners, lack of communication daily, rarely shown appreciation, owners constantly watching cameras micro managing employees, owners are price gouging. owners bad mouth employees in front of other employees, owners kids work there and come and go as they please for haircuts or miscellaneous things, minimum to no raises. One of the hardest working person that works there only had a .50 cent rase after 4 years. Another only .25 cents after 4 years. No benefits other than 2 weeks vacation after 2 years of work and thats the maximum. Owners are the only ones making a living. All other employees are secondary income most employees making under $10 an hour. You can't make a living working here. Owners believe they are better than their employees. A quote from the owner when I quit was "You think you're hurting me by leaving? Your not. I can do it all myself" Showing their true colors and lack of appreciation for the ones doing all the work. everyone is replaceable..good employees get burnt out fast with no incentive to be treated better in the future. Bad employees are not held accountable for their actions and good employees are pushed to take up the slack but rarely rewarded. Owners kids don't work Sundays..(they're special). Owner trying to get a second store asking me to run the current store by myself but for no extra pay. Then after I quit the owners bad mouth me saying I wasn't doing my job for 2 years anyway (then why would you h
Prosnone that you won't find everywhere else already.
ConsTypical retail bull and owners who think very highly of themselves but not their employees.

Mature employee? Great opportunity!
Every Grocery Outlet is unique, owners differ in their style and involvement. I enjoy my position. Being an entrepreneurial type person, I get to express my creativity and direct and manage every aspect of my career. I have full autonomy and am able to operate my department as my own business. I am personally challenged to improve customer service, our sales, my leadership skills and feel privileged as a mentor. I appreciate the full time work, good hours and the trust placed in me. The owner is happy with the success of our department and continually shows gratitude and support. I have great personal satisfaction. The main complaint among employees in our store is low wages, and yes, I echo this. Many young folks enjoy working here and take great pride in the work they do but know they can't make this a permanent career choice because they have hopes and dreams for their futures. The salary offered does not support a young family. I don't expect we will see a change to being paid a living wage. Barely above minimum wage seems to be the business model. However, If you are just beginning your career and choose to work with us, you will gain a solid, marketable work experience. You need not worry or complain about wages, you have nothing to fear, you will not be without options for your future, I have not noticed anyone being held against their will in my store, if you wish to seek a better paying job you will remain free to make a change. No worries. I've been a pa
ProsWe are given dated product... saves money=bonus. Owners trust in our expertise, no corporate oversight micro-managing from ivory towers

Each GO is Independently Owned
Each store is independently owned so someone’s experience working at one location can differ greatly from someone else’s experience working at another location. The Grocery Outlet in Pacifica, California has the best owners! Because most of the employees are students, the owners very much value education and the overall well-being of their employees. They treat everyone of their employees fairly and with the upmost respect. These owners felt like more than just bosses, but more so as family. They make an effort to make the entirety of the store feel like a family. They’re always working right next to you and try to help you in any way they can. If you’re stressed about anything, they’re open to talk and will do everything they can to help. I know I will never find bosses as great as them. Now for the technical stuff! They provide eye and dental insurance and sick time. You are provided with a uniform, name badge, and lockers (when lockers are available. Pacifica is in a pretty good area, so leaving things in your car shouldn’t be a problem as long as they’re not in plain sight). There is a break room with a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. They provide on the job training. You’ll start with an employee orientation, then go on to shadow a veteran employee. Even if you are solely a Spanish speaker, you can still apply. They don’t discriminate and they have people who can translate. Nothing in the store is rocket science. As long as you can read, write, do basic math, are
ProsKindest and most understanding bosses you’ll ever have
ConsPay rate might be a little lower than you want, but there are opportunities for raises.

Most of the people, including customers were a pleasure to work with.
A typical day at work would be getting there at noon and spend 3 hours on the register then take a lunch break at 3:30pm, only 3 hours into the work day. After lunch I would count down the employees that are off at 330. After that I would attend to my manager duties, which included stocking the produce, dairy, eggs, bread. Then I would write the break schedule for the next day, all the while running up to the front to do "key flicks" on the registers every time someone calls me to the front. I also have to keep my eyes open for possible shoplifters, unhappy customers/employees and unruly children. I also handled returns/refunds. You really need to have a good sense of patience. I would also clean messes when needed, clean and restock the breakroom and bathrooms. Around closing time I would go over the PA system and let everybody know we are about to close. After closing I would help bring the outside merchandise inside, finishing cleaning and tidying the registers, count the remaining employees down, then complete end of day "paperwork" set the alarm, and lock the store. I learned how to control my nerves, be patient and understanding of everyone around me, time management as well as multi tasking management. Most of my co-workers were very nice to work with. Very funny, cooperative, understanding and wiling to work with me. The hardest part of the job, for me anyway, was having to deal with certain customers. The anger, the yelling and the awkward accusations do wear you
ProsWorking with some great people.
ConsLow pay for hard work, not being respected, not getting any choice in scheduling.

Easy Job, Terrible Hours and management
Working here was fairly easy, you stand at a cash register scanning items and bagging them most of your shift. When you first start this job you will get about 5-7 hours, but as you start getting the hang of it you will end up getting full 8 hour shifts and more assignments they call "chores". You get trained by a manager to use the register until they think you are ready to be on your own but there's a lot they do not tell you, like how you need to ask to take a break or lunch or what to do when someone uses a discount code or when someone hands you a check. There are multiple managers including the owners, I thought the non-owner management was good. The owners on the other hand as soon as you are displeased about something they become very rude. They will NOT change your schedule if you request to get it changed, they expect you to work when they tell you to, if you attempt to get it changed they will say "Sorry but we hired you to work these hours only and can not change it at all whatsoever". During the interview they will say they can work with you on your schedule, that it is a lie. Hardest part about this job was just having to stand for many hours in the same spot. The most enjoyable part of this job was being able to converse with customers and the other co-workers.
ProsBreaks, Lunch, a lot of hours, easy job
Consshort 10 minute breaks, non-flexible hours, benefits only if you work 35 hours for 2 years, rude customers, No employee discounts, unfriendly owners

California management clueless to managing Pennsylvania. Horrible!!
As a delivery driver I am exposed to the constant frustrations of the store managers with the corporate management and the political games they play with the local administration that doesn't seem to be properly managed and encourage working together as a team. Corporate ownership is in California and there is great disconnect with the small distribution here in Pennsylvania. Careless actions have been made by corporate. Constant promises unfulfilled. Changes in decisions continue to disappoint and frustrate. Horrific communication problems with store management, warehouses, drivers and corporate. Constant backstabbing from store management, corporate, and store support management. In my opinion there is a serious problem in logistics for proper, productive and supportive communication that is hindering a healthy working relationship that promotes a positive attitude in being a part of the GO family. Plenty of arrogance and concern about who is above who in the food chain. Strong attitude of vengeance rather than support and team building. I fail to find GO members that feel valued and happy in being a part. Sadness, frustration, disappointments abound. :-(
ProsLocal work, good benefits, pay is doable, growth potential
Conscorporate to local management disconnect, careless actions by corporate, plenty of lies

A great place to start.
Typical days at Grocery Outlet as a cashier include basic duties such as bagging, counting your til, cleaning and maintaining a decent work station, greeting customers and frequent questions from customers.Cart runs are included.Everything i learned i was taught at grocery outlet by management some things are common sense but if unsure its helpful to verify with management.Management is firm and direct yet in a friendly and respectful manor making it more comfortable for asking for help. The atmosphere is diverse and full of culture. The hardest part is customers that are impatient because you can try to please everyone but there is a fair process called a line and people want what they want when they want it.However with effective communication even this challenge to satisfy the customer can be met.The greatest part about grocery outlet is the family side to grocery outlet since its family run and operated by by people that want to make a difference and help you save money, plus the family doesn't stop there it extends between peers when friends are made and even the customers after becoming familiar with you begin to treat you like family .Its a warm fuzzy feeling walking into work and feeling at home and for me i am grateful to have had this wonderful experience.
Prosfamily run business, flexible hours, compassionate employers, and great deals every day.

A Life on the Road
If you are taking this job, it is a job where you must be prepared to travel and to be home less than eight days a week. Working for the Grocery Outlet Set Team at Grocery Outlet Inc. gave me management experience that no other company could ever give within a short span of time. I've learned about training staff and working together with independent store owners to bring the best results in what Grocery Outlet Inc., creating and executing tasks within a team to complete daily goals and put personal growth in my employment as a career goal. The most difficult part of this job is finding reward and pride in the work you do. Many hours are spent working hard in a fast-paced and stressful job to perform tasks and constantly improve. The expectations of independent owners and management will not always align. Never having a definite lead or manager to stand by on issues can leave you feeling wary. Due to faults in entities outside the department (or even company), the difficulty of work can change. The most enjoyable parts of the job were working to bring about the best qualities in team members and store staff. I'll never forget building relationships with people to accomplish the sometimes near-impossible.
ProsManagement experience, construction experience, building relationships
ConsHigh-stress, constant travel

Happy and enjoyable environment to work in.
a typical day at work usually starts with me clocking in and heading up to the front of the store to see if they need help with bagging grocerys, once it starts to slow down up front I head to the aisles to see if they needed tending to. If they do I pull the card board of the shelves and face the product so that it looks presentable to the customers, another one of my duties would be stocking the milk coolers making sure that they were organized by their dates and percentage of fats, etc. I would also have to assist to any and all spills/clean ups that occur while I'm working, I would usually have cart duties a couple hours a day that was the hardest part of my job, especially when it was very hot outside. I would have to say my most enjoyable part of my job was bagging and conversing with the customers. I learned how to have exceptional customer service and to be promt and speedy when on duty. I enjoyed my managers very much, they were kind and would always assist me if I ever needed guidence. My co-workers and I all got along great there wasn't a soul in the store who didnt enjoy my company and vice versa. I enjoyed my job here very much and would love to have a position somewhat like this but right now any job would be great. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Each store is privately owned so you would need to ask your prospective employer what their pay schedule is. The store that employees me pays on the 7th and 22nd. I subscribe to automatic deposit so I often see my earnings posted to my account 24 to 36 hours early.
