Great enviroment
Loved working there, sad to go. Had to leave due to husband's job moving abroad. I would of continue working there an additional 15 years if given the option.

A rapidly growing PubCo
I worked for GK for many years and saw many changes. The company has grown rapidly in recent years to a point where head office support staff have been overstretched and in house expenditure budgets cut to an unreasonable level. These factors created a fairly stressful and impersonal atmosphere towards the end of my employment.
As a manager your pub's budget may be so tight that you will need work very long hours, doing whatever is necessary to ensure your wage percentages come within budget and that all paperwork and practical duties were completed. I would often start work at 8am to complete stock taking/planning etc and not finish until the pub was closed and I had cashed up. Often, I would work 6 or even 7 days a week. Failure to meet targets and achieve budgets could lead to stressful situations, sometimes without support to help you improve.
Having said that, I received great training and career advancement options from the company. Benefits were good and bonuses were acheivable if you were willing to put in the hours and effort. GK's pubs are grouped into smaller areas with a BDM in charge, and this creates a supportive peer network. Promotion from within the company was common and encouraged through the team member training scheme.
If you are willing to dedicate your life to a job, work well under extreme pressure and are not afraid of 'box ticking', you will thrive here as a manager, and be rewarded for your efforts.
Prosbenefits, training, investment in people
Constight budgets, lack of flexibility, long hours for management

Great people, great pub, great company
Set up bar for the day, ensure booked tables ready for opening. Complete banking duties, organise events. Administrative duties on front and back office system. Had a great time with co-workers and special events always brought out the best in our team especially when it was fancy dress nights.
Proslive in, so not far to travel after long shifts. bonus scheme allowed me to travel to new destinations.

Good company to work for but the pub i was at was not
i worked for a pub in the greene king chain and organisation of the place was awful and managers werent nice and spoke about everyone behind their backs.
the discount offered by greene king is the best part of working for them and the help from them during covid.
most of the faults i have is with the specific place i worked at not Greene King itself.
Prosdiscount, friendly customers
Consmanagement staff, no support, being spoken about behind your back, not allowing people to progress

Poor Management
I worked there for just over 5 weeks, I had worked at another pub for 2 years while doing my Alevels. That pub was infact busy but the management was alot nice and I felt supported. There was alot of blaming at the new pub under GreeneKing.
Pros33% discount
ConsNo breaks were given unless 8.5+ hr shifts, stressful

Worst company ever to work for
What can I say about greene king other than there are dictators who treat their people better than Greene king treat there staff in the company and the higher ups only care about there back pocket and couldn't care if you are
ProsIt's a job it's better than being homeless
ConsNo social life, verry little pay, no free work meal

Good when you're young
Worked for greenfinch in my younger years late teens to mid twenties and loved it. Very fun fast paced you learn all the work skills needed. Opportunities good too I was promoted a few times and given opportunities and responsibilities.
Sadly though it's just not a career for a grown up. If you want work life balance or better working conditions and are a competant manager you can go elsewhere. Even just with pub chains there were better places.
I haven't worked there in 3 years though and I know ceo had changed so maybe the company culture changed too. Take my words with a pinch of salt but id say if your driven and in early twenties get in there and climb. Thirties forties hopefully your management as your often understaffed over worked.
ProsFun, fast paced, the people, teaches you alot, good oportunities
ConsUnderstaffed, overworked, childish culture on site and even at general manager level

Fast Paced enviroment
Busy industry, great opportunities to progress in different fields of industry as well as management. Full training given once you begin working, great benefits not only for yourself but also friends and family.

Good Team but sometimes unforgiving
Managing within Greene King on a daily basis was relatively enjoyable, and the teams I've worked with were both incredibly friendly and good at the jobs. the downside came when the powers that be pushed for harder results that started to become unrealistic for the situation. I found myself often being stretched too thin and had practically no home life outside of the business. there are many programmes for further training and management and bettering yourself and most businesses have a great work ethic and team vibe.

Front of House
Friendly staff members and management in a busy family oriented pub. Minimum wage, with long shifts but were sometimes cut short (often on days where the pub wasn't busy).

Great team but poor pay
I have been with the company for 2 years and it’s been eventful, but amazing. I have progressed well but I’ve reached a wall between myself and the company so I now have to move on and thank them for the career they have set me upon and what standards I should have when working
ProsGreat progression/learning new skills/lovely team
ConsPoor pay, no social life

poor company badly paid
this company are partly responsible for the decline of interest in hospitality today, too greedy to the point of selling back what they over spent on within two years and full of broken promises
