Great place to work, Great Recession caused my departure
As I inspected each airport location I found the company was typical of the airline catering operations as each location manager is totally in control and not always welcomes change when it comes from HQ even though he understands it will save time and money in the long run, that was the hardest part of my job.
There have great and very loyal employees from top management to
newest employee. Management is very supportive and seems to get along well with the Union.
ProsGreat company, great people.
ConsDon't know of any.

On phone non stop for hours at a time
Supporting 45 plus locations thru phone PC interface. Management was an issue. Good people to work with but no room for advancement. The phones never stopped ringing. Meeting some really nice people.

Good learning experience
During my tenure at Gate Gourmet I learned a lot about the commercial catering business as well as the service industry as it applies to airlines.
I increased my practical knowledge of excel and other Microsoft applications.
I enjoyed the ability to work from home. I enjoyed working with my bosses (all three of them) and my other co-workers. The company focuses on 4 values and tries to reinforce them through awards and incentives.
ProsTelework, flexible hours
ConsA lot of company restructuring happening, lack of effective communications from management, benefits

Fun to work with people of different cultures.
If you like to work on your own and as a team member this place is for you.
Training is good but most of the time you learn from your mistakes as this is a very fluctuating operations industry, management is good but very busy as this is based on production and timely departures.
As an airline services industry, the hardest part is late arrivals/departures, cancelations, and many times this depends on the weather in other states or countries or during traveling.
The part I most enjoyed was meeting people from different parts of the world and learning about their culture.
ProsFree food
Conslong shifts.

Quick and fast paced environment
Typical day at work:
- Create a daily planning for airlines to be catered,
- Ensure proper amount of personnel required for daily operations, (ex. replacing sick calls)
- Answer clientel phone calls 50-60% of the time
- Follow up and make changes to the planning according to flight delays, mechanical or aircraft changes.
- Assign drivers their schedules and update on daily work / important events/ tasks/ training,
- Advise kitchen/ final assemblers of constant aircraft swaps or changes of galleys,
- Verify galleys are ready to ensure proper delivery before aircraft departures.
Management:
Great Team!! Always encouraging and very helpful.
What I learned:
Data analysis/management, working under stress, finding solutions
Work place culture:
Friendly, fast paced work environment, constant changes.
Hardest part of the job:
Everything happens simultaneously.
Most enjoyable part of the job:
The satisfaction of doing an excellent job everyday in what could be described as crazy by others.
