Goal driven with room for advancement
I started aa crew and went to management within 3 months. Working there for 3 years really was a lot of fun. Management is a big commitment, but is worth the extra effort.

Burger Joint job with great team members
Five Guys Burgers and Fries' demographic is not the health conscious population, but for a burger joint, they do what they do very well. The team members here were really great.

Fast pace. Time goes by quickly. WAY too much wor kn for the pay. They want all of you and for min. wage. No holiday pay or OT for 8+ hrs. +
Tips equal 2 to 5 dollars a shift. Even when you deliver orders curbside you hardly make tips which are pooled....customers want the extra service but then dont tip. Staff is taking risk working with public all the way through covid. They're hesitant to come in but staff is there daily. Customers could show appreciation for extra service and simply tip $1.00. Not a living wage . Opening and especially closing shifts are brutal. Awesome general manager at my store...really fair and honest but most of lower management has never managed anywhere else so they are short sighted. No empowerment given to employees. Even after 8 hr. Shift, meal is still not free. Half off. They never say if your cash drawer is accurate. One mgr so rude to staff that customers ask who the heck is that person?. Good starter job only. No background check. No good promotion opportunities if you are not with "in" group....or if you have any kind of record. But will hire you for non supervisory positions. show up. Be on
time have a positive attitude. Be clean. Open to learn. That's all it takes!
ProsNo background check always hiring fast paced nice co workers excellent product
ConsPromotions rare, lots if politics, low pay for physically demanding closing shift (they should pay closers more $), incentive opportunities for $., you can wear long sleeve tee shirt as long as theres no writing on it.

Great place to work but in need of a better general manager.
The environment of Five Guys is very quick and hands on. It requires everyone on staff to work together and think on their feet. Some managers were more desirable and seemed better equipped for the job at hand than others.
ProsGreat learning experience.
ConsPoor management

Enjoyed job
I enjoyed working there. I just wanted to find something else outside of the fast food industry. If you can flourish in a fast environment and can learn quickly, this is the job for you.

Upbeat and fast pace
I usually worked 4 to 5 hour shifts. I would come to work, sign in, put on a hair net, put on my uniform and hat, put on an apron, wash my hands, and put gloves on. I sometimes worked as a cashier, or cleaning the lobby, or making the burgers toppings. When I worked in the lobby I cleaned tables, swept, changed the garbages, washed the windows, cleaned the drinking station, washed the bathrooms and interacted with customers. When I was making the toppings I would toast the buns, the a receipt would come through that would tell me what toppings the customer asked for and then I would move the buns and toppings along so they can put the patty on and wrap it. My coworkers were very fun to be around but also hard working at the same time. My least favourite part of the job was the 4 hour shifts because it was not very long. The most enjoyable parts were the coworkers as well as the up beat pace you had to be in, plus the free burgers were great.
ProsFree burgers
ConsShort hours

Fun but exhausting workplace
I enjoyed working at Five Guys Burgers and Fries because the salary was reasonable, the training and advancements were interesting and fast paced. I had to leave to finish school full-time. A typical day at work for me started early in the morning. I got to work around 7:45am and worked until about 5:00pm. I would help my team prep, cash in, check the emails, and start producing sales while closely watching on Micros Systems the labor cost. I also travelled across Canada and helped other stores become more successful with training and sales experience.
Prosorganized, fast paced, travelled, learned, team work
Consrepetitive, to much travel, not enough feedback, displaced upper management

uplifting environment
A typical day at Five Guys is talking to customers , up-selling product, preparing food and running the line. I have learned to be more energetic, to lead and be part of a team and to be fast and efficient. The workplace culture was uplifting and full of energy. The most enjoyable part of working there was talking to customers everyday.
ProsGreat environment
Consmusic to loud to hear customers
