No work life balance, management under too much pressure
Ecolab's requirements for their night shift pest technicians needs adjustment - Techs work 8-10 hours per night, 5 nights per week, but also are required to make customer calls in the afternoon. The result is that techs never get more than an hour or two per day for break. In addition to this, every technician is required to work one weekend per month, cutting time with family to a bare minimum.
Ecolab preaches a culture of safety, but works their base personnel so hard that they average one work place accident per day.
Management is under extreme corporate pressure to meet quotas, and the technicians pay the price for management's pressure.
Summary - a few points of adjustment could make Ecolab a safe, rewarding place to work.

It is now referred to as The Organization
The primary metric is the sales to budget number. Without attaining that, opportunities for advancement are "off the table" for most people. However, there is a network pipeline that provides advancement based on personality affinity with senior management.

Asking for the impossible
I don’t know many jobs where someone is a good salesman and a good technician. At Ecolab, you need to be both. You get sent to Minnesota for training, which is a lot of fun and very informative and you meet some great people. Of course, the scenarios they give you are optimal. Once you return home, you find yourself fixing a motor in a greasy Kitchen, then cleaning yourself up to get to a sales call. It is just a recipe that sets most up to fail.

Great Place to work
Very good place to work. Management was tough, military style of management but the style helped you reach target goals.
Flexible schedule, management that is focused on team development and they listen to what you have to say no matter what position you hold. They understand the “little guy” is the front line and face of the company and structure pay in a way that refeclts that message. Flexible schedule.

Productive, fun place to work and meet new people
Nalco Champion was a great place to work. I was able to intern three times in over two years and with each time more and more responsibilities. Although I was only an intern I was given opportunity for growth and to network with many people. Great place that I would recommend to many people if they are given the opportunity to work there.

Great job with many job perks
I enjoyed working here because the salary and benefits were very competitive. I also had some great co-workers in the office where I worked. A typical day of work consisted of doing sales orders, accounts payables, scanning and sending invoices on a daily basis and filing all paperwork.
I learned many different computer applications. During my employment at Nalco Champion, we merged companies, which meant that we had to merge computer applications.
The hardest part of this job was making sure all the sales orders were done in a timely manner because at times the salesmen sent them in late, and they had to go out as they came in.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the fact that my co-workers and I were able to work together so well and we always covered for each other when we were out for vacations, or out for other reasons. It was nice to know that you could depend on your co-workers for that.
ProsThey allowed us to have free bottled water and free soft drinks, they usually always gave us a little time off early for a holiday, they were very understanding about emergencies that came up that required we had to be off.
ConsDealing with salesmen who sometimes didn't follow the rules, trying to work with office equipment that didn't always work.

not a growth oriented environment
It was a nightmare working for them. You get stuck with racist district managers that want you to fail. Even if main office knows they do nothing to resolve issue. Not a good place to work.
