A fair but
A typical day at work would entail unpacking a pallet of frozen goods from the daily deliveries which the shop receives. It involved heavy lifting at a quick pace. I learned how to efficiently unpack and organize boxes of frozen goods.
The management took a light role as the work was relatively straightforward. Their main job was the inspection of the work after you had finished to ensure its standard.
Dunnes stores had a proud history and culture which was strict but fair.
The hardest part of the job was the monotony and the freezing temperatures in which i worked.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the other staff members whom I worked closely with.
ProsShort Shifts
ConsNot paid for lunch, no free lunch

Great work environment
A typical day at work is fast, upbeat and extremely busy. I've grown immensely since beginning my post as checkout operator and have been trained in various areas of the store as I am reliable, hard working and understanding. I enjoy the team spirit between workers and management. the fact that we all have the same objective throughout the day makes for great buzz and togetherness between us. The hardest part of the job is keeping every customer as happy as possible in their overall experience of the store. The part of the job which I enjoy most would have to be making relationships will all kinds of people on a daily basis
ProsBonus Chrostmas Vouchers
ConsOften difficult hours

Enjoyable place to work
As a checkout supervisor my day to day tasks include giving the checkout operators, voids, overrides, and change when needed. I must also ensure that there is adequate cover for checkouts throughout the day and that there are never any queues at the tills. I also must deal with customers on a day to day basis assisting them with any queries they may have. I also have to take customers details for our home delivery service. I enjoy my time working for the company and have a good relationship with both management and staff. Throughout my time with the company I have recieved training and experience in many areas such as the personnel office to which I am greatfull for.

work place
to be honest with how you are treated as an employee , its a surprise they have employees in the first place
your just a number and that's is , the work has to get done , but you are never rewarded for the stores success or as the business succeeds , its quite the negative environment

overall summary average
From my experience dunnes stores is mainly pleasant but provides very little or no job progression opportunity. The most enjoyable part of the job is the interaction with customers and other staff. The job is fast paced and quite demanding at times. The management seems quite detached from the general staff regarding communication and interactions. While i personally get on quite well with the majority of management i have witnessed quite alot of tension and arguments amongst others. The worst part is the uncertainty of hours because of the structured contracted giving only a minimum of 15 hours per week guaranteed. This is often subject to change due to management changes and budget restrictions.

productive, stressful and brilliant!
Every day I found myself doing a hundred different things. Behind the customer service desk many just sit idly by and wait for work but if you look around, so much could be done. I cleaned, I counted the safe's money, I helped customers, staff and management. I reorganised the desk and returned unwanted goods. I loved the challenges I faced with difficult queries, angry customers and stressful hours. Being the only customer service member in the store during my shift, I took great pride in being not only quick but helpful, organised and giving my best to each customer.
Proschallenging, never the same thing every day.
Consstanding for 8 hours a day hurts!

Great workplace with friendly and engaging staff and management.
A typical day at work would include completing refunds and exchanges for customers. Checking stock for customers in our own store and other branches of Dunnes Stores. Placing an order online for a customer. I learned a great deal when engaging with the general public and using the telephone and computer. Worked well with all the managers of the different departments and enjoyed working with my team on the drapery customer service desk. I enjoyed meeting different people through my job.
ProsFlexible with hours.
ConsShop opens until midnight every night.

Temporary job
I considere this job a temporary job. I needed to get the money to pay my rent and my course but i want to work in a different area. The work is quite simple, some time boring and sometime fisically hard, some day i stay sit down in checkouts 8 hours and other day in the shop floor . I've learned how to manage customer expectations, i emproved my communication skills on all levels. I learnt also to manage my work in a fast paced environment. The most enjoyable part of my job is the amount of different types of people that I came into contact with everyday and the satisfaction of helping them with an issue and resolving this. The management is good and my co-workers are lovely, always ready to help each other.

Overall an enjoyable work place
> A typical work day involved working either on a checkout till or working on self service. Both of these jobs I found enjoyable and easy enough to manage.
> I learned a numerous amount of tasks, however the most important thing I believed to have learned is customer service.
> The management of Dunnes is not one which I would speak highly of. They appear to be very disorganised and show a lot of unfairness in the work place.
> My co-workers quickly became close friends. All of the workers were kind, friendly and welcoming people who brought a very comfortable and happy atmosphere into the work place.
> I found the hardest part of the job was dealing with rude or unpleasant customers.
> The most enjoyable part of the job was spending time with my co-workers.
