Management communication was limited. Each manager never seemed to know what the other managers knew when there were things that they really should have known by them all.
Being rushed off your feet to do everyone else's job.
Management are bully's; get you to do the jobs that they can't manage to do, although the results are unattainable.
Assistant managers are sack you if your face doesn't fit.
70 staff taken on for setup. 34 sacked by the end of a week, not keeping a promise to keep them on for a minimum of 3 months.
Team leaders are mainly nice people, but management make the job unbearable. Look for a job elsewhere, or make it a short stop while you search for something else because this place is NOT the place to have a long time career.
ProsNone.
ConsMassive staff overhaul, long hours, job insecurity on whim, no room for error.
over work and under paid for what they expect us to do. not enough staff to cover the whole store which effects customer service.
shifts can change day before so if ur not n that day u wont know if it has changed
Good workplace but unfortunately management do not listen to staff grievances. Management do not consider any flexibility for staff with children or other commitments when handing out the rotas.
ProsGreat team spirit

Secure Place to work
I liked it, colleagues are great. Hours are unheard of for customer service. Earning potential is limited but they have recently added 3 brands to the contact centre so more opportunities may be available in the future. If you prefer to a slower paced work day this is the place for you, the targets and KPI's are very reasonable and quite easy to hit, you don't think need to worry about the team target or think outside the box to get things done, everythings simple and it's a very chilled atmosphere.
I will add if you work what your colleagues perceive as too hard then you will be met with criticism and skepticism off management and colleague's no matter how high your team workload is. I was blocked from incentives and had 2 seperate teams tutting at me and questioning me constantly. It's easy to ignore for a while but it can grind you down so my advice would be to hit on or slightly above your individual target and let management worry about the team target/overal workload, concentrate on networking.
That being said I would've stayed for many years if there was a way to top your wages up rather than standard time overtime. It's by far the best place I've worked at in the Bury/Radcliffe area.
ProsHours, never finish later than 7 pm, only 1 in 3 weekends, job security is amazing as long as you aren't an idiot, staff are friendly in a personal level, no pressure, very reasonable targets
ConsVery narrow and limited earning potential, breaks are a little mean, you barely leave your comfort zone
A terrible company to work for! 2 years service (manager)
After 2 years being worked to the bone I have now left the delights of my 45 hrs contract with Dunelm, over these 2 years I have never worked 45!!!! your average week will be around 55/60 hrs. with the delights of 16hrs shifts till 2 am or ever all night on occasions. THIS IS EXPECTED!! you will receive no pay and no time in hand for your hard work. you will be working a part time job for free!!!! yay!
15% discount is poor for the average retailer
no sick pay even if your salary, (don't go breaking a leg or you cant pay rent!)
setup to fail on every task asked for by the company, e.g. (35 pallets of Christmas stock dropped in store and told to sit on it for 1 week. until they review were they can put it) embarrassing amateurs at any kind of setup or merchandising launches.
Massively high turnover of managers I have had 3 area managers, 3 store managers, and worked with 7 assistant managers in my short time. (I cannot count the amount of team leaders or staff I have seen pass)
bonus structure is terrible, the goalposts are moved constantly and you budgets are based on target + internet sales???? based within these magical postcodes around your store, that no one in the company seems to know, YOU HAVE NO DIRECT OR EVEN INDIRECT POWER OVER INTERNET SALES.
My share save has had 3 missing payments from the company (£450) even though they were taken direct from my salary!!!!!! now I have left and wish to cash out on my 3 year program I cannot get my money until
ProsNONE
ConsThis company will take 10 years off your life expectancy ! be warned
Just don’t do it to your self the managers don’t care they don’t care the need for there stuff yet they claim there a family run business. They don’t give you proper training and head office always side with a manger yet managers are allowed to break the law by making you carry heavy objects with no manual handling training.

Worst job ever
Do not work for this company.
Dunhell I call this place horrible managers who hit out order after order with no thanks or appreciation of staff at all.
Warehouse manager was the only decent manager in store !!
Expected to deal with a whole department on your own including having to bring deliveries up to warehouse (I thought this was a warehouse operative job not a customer assistant).
Slave labour couldn’t compare!!
Dare ask for a day off or stop to speak to a colleague!!
Got out as soon as I could!!
ProsNone staff discount not worth it

Poor
Worked there recently , poor training , poor management , will use you and then drop you at the drop of a hat , if the store not doing as well as expected you will lose hours , will give you unreasonable shifts , your expected to do extra after your shift finished , they pull there face if you leave at your stated shift finishing time , but your co workers are great to work with
Productive and fun work place with professional colleagues
Well working at Dunlem Mill was fun and educative
I have learned how to merchandise the items in a retail store and how to provide a wow customer service
The management was very professional but also very friendly
The workplace culture in Dunelm Mill is absolutely fantastic
I'm extremely grateful for my time at Dunelm Mill, and through my job there I have gained confidence and experience in things I would probably never had experienced without it. Myself and a large members of the staff have became great friends and I would still go inside the store to catch up with them today. I am a person that enjoys growing and experiencing different things throughout a daily basis, and I could not praise them enough for being able to do that for me. My time there came to a close simply due to a personal disagreement on tattoos that I have and I do not hold it against them or the company in the slightest. It was a challenging job as the best of times but I thrived on the challenge, and the ability to move around and adapt to various challenges throughout my entire time there.
ProsAdaptability, experiences and extremely friendly staff members.
Great place to work, varied tasks always busy and good training.
Very well-organised team every one helps out nice environment to work in.
Product range is great.
7 till 4 lots over work to do, unload lorries, shopfloor work, work culture is very good, hard part of job doing things on own, finishing early some days.
Assisting and advising customers on products
Sales floor replenishment
Merchandising and presentation of stock and displays
Advising and ordering of custom made items
I enjoyed every minute of everyday of every week I was there.
Good management.
I learned as much as when I worked in Debenhams.
There was no hard part when I was there.
I enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends.
I have grown and developed so much from my role working for this company. Would recommend a career at Dunelm. Like any job it is fast paced and requires you to be able to work effectively under pressure. Great team! Hardest part of the job: product knowledge you have to know everything about every product including availability, but once you know it all, the information makes your job much easier and enhances customer shopping experience. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that your contribution is valued and also that hard work is acknowledged and appreciated.
Dunelm was a brilliant company to work in.
whilst I was on the merchandising team, I had the pleasure of working with new staff and training them on the departments that I was on
Prostraining people

Productive and fun work place.
Typical day at Dunelm coffee shop varies as no day is the same and there are different shift patterns, however each day of work I would do many if not all of the jobs in the shop, from taking customer orders and till operation, to making the different hot drinks, food preparation, washing dishes and clearing tables and lastly putting out stock and doing required daily paperwork e.g. fridge temperatures.
I already had 4 years coffee shop experience, however I think I have learned to be patient, efficient and to multitask.
My management skills have improved whilst working in Dunelm, I think I can manage time well, resolve situation quickly and are able to give clear orders to colleagues.
I have a good relationships with all my co-workers, I enjoy working alongside them and I think I work well in a team.
The hardest part of the job would be it can be challenging at times, especially during busy periods/ holiday/lunch times when you are trying to make sure that all customers are served quickly and professionally, you want every single customer to have and enjoyable experience when visiting the shop.
The most enjoyable part would be meeting new people and learning new skills.
