Pet Sitter | Rutland, MA | Mar 18, 2020
Like working with therapy dog and training foster dogs
I like working with dogs and helping train, walk and interact with people. I can clean ears, brush, check for bugs, rashes, etc as could have affect on health. I believe that interaction with dogs helps the children at the school in a positive way , as love without judging, cuddling and petting seems to calm and make happy to interact.. The hardest part of the job is having to leave dogs at night as fosters love to be with you and cry when leave. Not able to interact with children as much as wish. The workplace culture is harder than most as children have different behavioral problems from Autism to violent behaviors. The typical day at work is usually just with therapy dog feed, walk and tend to her needs, loves ear rubs . I'm only part time so teacher and students interact with during day and I take care of at night and vacation periods and holidays.

I thought the group home where I worked was cliquish and management dohonest
It’s sucked really bad. I (a man) was alone to bathe and care for FIVE women who could but do anything for themselves. I’ve never bathed anything adult let alone a screaming and hitting woman. I complained and management did nothing. I stopped going to work.

It's a great entry level position
So far there seems to be a glass ceiling as it relates to advancement within the company. They tell new hires that they're allowed to advance within the company in three months once they pass their probation period, however, I've found that to be untrue. The best part of this position is my direct supervisor and my team.

Not great.
It’s cliquey/ if your not in forget it. The kids are pretty good, it is rewarding watching them learn and make leaps and bounds of progress. However like I said if your not in, you will not be recognized or helped in anyway. One hand washes the other? Not here. Help them they still won’t budge for you. The pay is unfair and supposed to remain unspoken of.

Great place to work
This is such a great place to work, I was able to gain valuable experience throughout my years here. Supervision was also provided and very supported.

Low pay for experience
Company is an all women management team. They seem to not care much for men. They pay very low for all the tasks you are required to perform. Hard place to keep management happy.

Very conducive working community
This company has a very conducive working environment. The culture is such that everyone knows everyone by name and always willing to help when you need one.

Good Place
If you enjoy working with troubled youth this is a great job for you. The management is nice and very welcoming. It can be stressful at times due to the dynamic of the children but if you want to make a difference this is a good pick.

Fun, productive and fun working place
Great place to work. Friendly coworkers and supervisors. The clients are amazing and they always make u stick around. As the leaders in human service in the nation, they have a lot of opportunities for growth and development of staff and the individuals serve.

horrible to their staff
The company it self does great things. The way you are treated as staff is bad. They will replace you without a blink. They do not take the time to train you or seem to care about your success there.

Questions And Answers about Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health

If you were to leave Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, what would be the reason?
Asked Mar 23, 2017
The reason I would quit would have to be the atmosphere. I dread coming to work when I know certain supervisors are going to be working. I can expect little assistance from other staff when needed, orders to be barked and not asked and drama between coworkers right in front of the kids. The company doesn’t care to fix any of its issues with the atmosphere because employees are all replaceable.
Answered Jan 27, 2021
This organization is a non profit that is not driven by its mission. The mission is a facade. Devereux leadership is driven by ego, power, and high salaries. Unfortunately, Devereux's clients and employees suffer a great deal. Employees who are driven by the Devereux mission and true Servant Leadership will be cast out by Executive Leadership.

Given our extensive network of programs and services across the country, Devereux is able to offer multiple opportunities for advancement (or in a different dept/setting). We provide support to various client populations (emotional challenges, intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism) and within multiple settings; residential treatment, community-based, hospitals, outpatient clinics and schools. Answered May 18, 2020
If you do not click with the upper management .... kiss the opportunity goodbye
Answered May 15, 2020
What would you suggest Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health management do to prevent others from leaving?
Asked Mar 23, 2017
The culture sucks. Get rid of upper management and fake positions. Hire all new qualified directors. Make upper management work in dorms as their monthly training in order to have hands on experience. Clinicians need to spend time with the individuals so they can observe the behaviors.
Answered Apr 17, 2021
FIRE ALL THE UPPER MANAGEMENT THAT ARE UNDER THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DOWN TO THE OPERATIONS DIRECTOR & DIRECTORS! OR better yet let them step into the manger and Dsp roles for 30days maybe they'd have some empathy....smh what a uncompassionate company
Answered Sep 29, 2020
What is the proper protocol for quitting?
Asked Dec 17, 2016
Before you give 2 weeks notice..use up all your sick/vacation time or cash in what you can. Once you put notice in, they will find a way to cheat you out of it. Keep it to yourself. You can do FML as well. That's the best way to keep it under wraps.
Answered Nov 22, 2019
Talk to your supervisor and give 2 weeks notice
