People are great.
What stood out to me was the team effort that went into this career.
High stress environments need a since of balance and strong commitment to excellence that all that work with you need to believe in. High ethics and understanding fully what the chain of command means.
Fair firm and consistent was our rule of ethics.
ProsWonderful sense of protection and strong ethics.

Unique and interesting environment
Give yourself plenty of time to get used to the routine and the environment. The days can be very busy, and the workplace culture can be a shock sometimes. You will learn a lot and see a lot.

Great place to work with great benefits and opportunity for advancement.
I worked for the Department of Correction for over 20 years. I learned a great deal, I was challenged throughout my career which lead to many promotional opportunities. I think the thing I liked most was the sense of family I had with my staff, co-workers and supervisors. I was given many opportunities to work on special projects as well as mentoring staff.

Not Nursing
Most of the people there are total idiots and could never get a job in a hospital. The inmates are not hard to deal with the management is. The managers are a group of the most stupid people I have ever delt with in my 30 years of nursing.
ProsThe money is good
ConsYou work with idiots

Productive
A typical day, is roll call and ensure the inmate safety. Great place to work. Staff is professional. I would recommend this company to friends and family.

It is what it is, a hard job for mostly fair pay.
About what you would expect for a job where you are forced to confine human beings for a living. The emotional toll far outweighs the danger of any such environment. It can break the will if you're not going in prepared for the things you might see.

Productive and gained wide range of experience
A typical day at work was keeping team of officers motivated. I learned as a supervisor I can have a positive impact on the workplace culture and moral.
Hardest part of the day is responding to alarms most of the day. Most enjoyable part of the day is engaging with staff and boosting moral!
