Example Counselor job summary

Local rehabilitation center has an immediate opening for a drug and alcohol counselor to help clients recover from addiction. You will work with our team of professionals to develop and lead treatment programs, conduct client assessments, and facilitate group counseling sessions. Our ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field along with previous experience working in a treatment center. The successful candidate should be able to provide positive guidance and create a safe and welcoming environment for every client.

Counselor responsibilities

This section should convey the most important duties for the role. Highlight any responsibilities that may be unique to the role or particularly interesting for potential applicants. It’s also beneficial to describe how the role fits into the larger organization.

Example Counselor responsibilities

  • Conduct initial intake screenings and assessments
  • Work with clients to create individual treatment plans
  • Lead individual and group counseling sessions
  • Identify additional resources that may be helpful to clients and assist them in utilizing them effectively
  • Carefully document information from each session and note client progress
  • Maintain an inviting environment so clients feel welcome and comfortable

Counselor requirements

This section should list the essential qualities of an ideal candidate. Include previous work experience, education or achievements that would be beneficial. And list any preferred hard and soft skills.
