Good for side work
I worked with Comfort Keepers for a year as a second job, I was also a caregiver for a facility full time. The interview process was very short, 5 minutes max. I was immediately hired and started the hiring process that day. I was even asked if I would like to take a shift that very day. I was started out at $10 an hour despite having experience and great professional recommendations. I suppose they would rather save the higher wage for the rare CNA that applies. There are zero benefits, even if you are working 40+ hours a week. Although it is very, very rare to get more than 20 hours a week. The plus is that you can be very flexible with your schedule and which clients you want to work with, but understand that if you decline more than they like or refuse to take a certain client, then you'll find that they stop sending work to you altogether. One thing I didn't appreciate was that in my interview I was told that the client pays 50 cents to the mile for our gas and the company does not take a single cent of that. I later found out that Comfort Keepers actually charges the client about 75 cents to the mile but we caregivers only get 50 cents. I suppose technically, they didn't lie. About 80% of your clients will be located in Sun City, so if you're not near that area prepare to spend most of your earnings in gas. Overall, it's a decent company to work for, and the office can be very sweet and understanding, at times. This is not a job to go for if

One thing after another
It was one thing after the next, and I lasted less than one month. I was struck by one of the office members my orientation day, I reported it but the manager I talked to wasn't concerned at all. I was, especially after the Boundaries tutorial, which I would think all employees might be requisite to. Who knows. I told him he scared me and "That hurt" but he hit my arm again, and just walked on. I had a very stressful problem of being overscheduled. I'm talking morning shifts sandwiched between overnight runs. The after hours attendant was not concerned either. Finally, after having to badger them, they took me off that insane shift. Which, all that labor, should actually be illegal because not even a speed freak could hold up to that scheduling. Also, after approving my agenda other incongruous shifts would pop up in it. I myself did not write down my availability- so there was a stressful issue about being put to these other 24 hour time slots I would have never signed on for. "That's what you were hired for. So..." I got the picture. I was painfully bitten by a client's poodle, who the location already knew was a hazard. I communicated with the owners and got no response. I can understand why the agency and others require the applicant to pay for the checks and prints...but now I only hope I at least get my aside wages. And I didn't make it to the prints appointment as that was scheduled two weeks out of my date of hire. The company states to everyone workers cannot lift or

A day in the life...
Wake knowing no matter how well you plan your day or week, know it will change at any moment. It is a 24/7 job. The coordination of staff and clients needs. typical day would be me taking a caregiver to a client, explaining all there is about the home as well as the needs and details of the client. Home visits thorough out the day to make sure staff is doing the job, the client is happy with our services. Leavin supplies for carestaff. Checking on the client in general, asking questions about health, nutrition, memory, making sure we are not missing anything in their care, any underling news to report to family, or POA. Be advocate for client and staff to best of my abilities. I learned a ton about Alzheimers, as well as Dementia, how to be a good listener and able to read between the lines to discover what the needs of the client will be. I learned how to develop healthy working relations with clients, family, and outside care members. How to be mindful of staff needs as well. It is important that the staff is well taken care of and respected, if not the care we send out in the field is not going to be a healthy responsible choice on the companies part. It will ultimately affect the client, and that can't happen. The hardest part of the job, is to not take it home. The most enjoyable part of the job for me was building personal honest relationships with the clients, their families and or guardians. Some of my favorites are the ones that to o

Unorganized and empty promises
Management is awful. They clearly don’t care about both the clients and the employees, as they don’t communicate with the clients ever about any changes and they take advantage of the employees. I was hired on the spot and worked the very next day without any sort of background check. I found that very fishy, as I am working alone with a client and you have no way to distinguish if I am a criminal/have ever been fired from a facility for being abusive or negligent, etc. I have clients that complain about the lack of communication with aComfort Keppers. They ask me constantly why they get multiple caregivers in and out of their home and Comfort Keeeprs doesn’t even notify them. It’ something that scares them because they usually keep their doors unlocked waiting for the caregivers and they don’t know who is coming. It makes them vulnerable. Also, they will treat employees like trash. There’s no way you will get enough hours to live off of unless you take any and every shift available. You get treated poorly if you call out sick, yet you’re taking care of people who should probably be in a nursing home setting, but want to stay in their homes, so if you get these geriatric clients sick, it could put them in the hospital. Still, they don’t care. I had a client get told something on the phone from the office COMPLETELY different than how things are done. It’s a shame that they take advantage of the elderly and the employees who put their all in to take care of them. Some of the

The company really cares about you.
The company truly cares about you. With all of the blizzard/snow stuff going on, they are always sending out emails and making personal phone calls to let us know to be careful, bad weather is coming, how to prepare for it, etc. They gave out gift cards for Christmas, I think it was around $25 to a grocery store. One time (an isolated event) when paychecks were late, they called and asked if I needed anything at all (sounding like they would personally lend me money if I was in need). They called to ask me how I was after the death of a client, etc. They are super flexible, I am a college student and you essentially plan your own schedule. They text the shifts that are available and you can pick them up at your own will. There are some permanent clients that you can pick up to have a set schedule as well, I'm not sure how hard those are to come by though. Because they have a lot of CNA's working for them, if you have to call out without too much heads up, it's usually not a huge deal. Management is always super friendly if you ever go into the office. Someone always says hello to me and asks me how it's going. Because it's a bigger company and they have a lot of clients, job stability is good, getting enough hours is never a problem. & They do pay time & a half for over time! Now, the negatives. They start you at $10 an hour, which is not much considering what we do, and they charge the clients $19 per hour. After 90 days you supposedly get a small (10-30 cent) ra

My experience w/ Comfort Keepers
CK has an extremely high stress work environment. Each day presents a new set of issues with multiple fires to put out with minimal training, support or guidance. The Operations Management & HR Team comes to Tulsa, schedules multiple long meetings with many promises that are not carried out and when the staff, particularly the Client Care Coordinator that is expected to resolve the issues attempt to carry out the policies they are not backed up by management and ultimately the client care coordinator is penalized for offending the staff with the policy. The OPS Manager is unable to make decisions without constant consultation from HR and other management staff delaying important processes being addressed for quality control. There are many different personalities in this office consisting of unwillingness to be flexible, a bad attitude towards learning as well as incompetency being tolerated and accepted on a daily basis. There is no accountability for the office staff that does not complete tasks and makes mistakes such as data entry errors, poor communication along side the unkind response to communication, all affecting client's, caregivers and the overall operation of the company. There is a disciplinary process in place for caregivers on staff but it is not carried out in a timely manner if at all to be affective and to assure the clients are receiving the best care that they deserve. Reports, revenue and stats are clearly the priority, not people nor staff satis

Horrible management
They say they are flexible, but they are not. You give them the hours and days you would like to work, and they sneakily slip people in that are outside your list that you want care for (you request non smoking clients and they send you to a smoking client) They say you're not on call, and you have the option to say no for a particular shift, but they make you work the shift and won't acknowledge any of the above. There were particular clients that I didn't like, and I didn't want to be forced to go clean their house. There is no negotiation on if you don't want to work with a particular client if its already on your schedule. You HAVE to do it. Cleaning their house isn't fulfilling at all. Talking with them is fulfilling, but then your told that you can't continue a friendship with them because it's not 'professional'. They make you work and work and work. They say they don't want their caregivers to burn out, but when caregivers decline shifts, they get mad. They don't respect caregivers at all. I wanted to talk to ONE person. They make you talk to EVERYBODY in their office about everything going on with you. Questions about clients/problems/things you're working on/things you're confused on. In their office, everyone is NOT on the same page and will you 20 different answers to the same question. There is no consistency. They change your schedule all of the time, and that is frustrating. They treat their clients like objects and do not treat them with re

Family orientated,caring and loving staff
A typical day for me would be to arrive at least 10 mins early to converse with the family or the client to see how the client slept the night before and to see if the client had any physical or mental changes since the last time I was there. I enjoy walking in greeting them and seeing their smiley faces when I arrive. I enjoy the great stories and wisdom they give me. I have learned to listen even more attentively to the clients through their body language, their eyes and verbal communication. Sometimes oral is not enough so you have to look and figure out what they have not said to assist appropriately. The hardest part of my job is leaving the client at the end of a shift, especially when your client has a look in their eyes of sadness that you are going and will not see you again until your next scheduled shift. But what I can say the most enjoyable part of my job is knowing that the client and the family are COMPLETELY satisfied with the level of service I have provided to their loved one(s). I treat them as if they were my family members and how I would want someone to take care of my elderly mother. I can also say so many wonderful things about the management. I have never met a more loving, understanding, caring, supporting staff than Comfort Keepers. I had a tragedy in my life and this great company supported me all the way through. Any other company would have let you go and never cared about you or your family. They say Greatness starts from the top, which is so

It's an okay place to work for
I have an online schedule where I find out a little bit about my clients that I will be visiting for the day. I figure out what they need help with, most of my clients need help with transportation, laundry, and house chores. I complete all of the tasks that the client asks of me.Then before I leave I have to fill out a brief summary of what I did while at my clients home. I have learned a lot from my job. I have learned that growing old isn't easy. You're family members do the best that they can to help you when they have free time, but they also have their own lives and their own problems. I have seen families fight over who is going to take care of their elderly mother/father for the week..and that is the most hardest thing to watch.. I have learned not to become so consumed in my own life that when my parents get elder that I can not find the time to help them out. I have learned patience, loyalty, respect, how to speak up for those in need, but most importantly I have learned how not to be so selfish. I work alone, I don't work with any other co-workers. The most enjoyable thing about my job would have to be seeing my clients faces light up when I come through their door.. not only happy to see me, but happy because they don't have to be alone for a few hours in their day. I enjoy how my clients always ask my boss if they can have me back to visit and to help them with whatever they need for the day.

ConsI can work a full 8 hour day and I won't get a break for lunch

Clients are great, office sucks
The good thing about this job is the sweet clients you meet and care for. That's it. Seriously, don't work for a home health care agency. If you can, just find a private ad on Indeed and work independently and file your own 1099. That is infinitely easier than the nightmare that I've endured at this job. During recruiting, they tell you you can set your own hours, but you are required to work one weekend a month. Fair enough. However, don't even try to give them a specific availability because the schedulers will not listen to you. They have way more clients than caregivers so they are way too often over-scheduling the caregivers outside of their availability. Also, don't EVEN bother making plans because your schedule will change daily, and they won't even tell you. You just have to find out from looking at the schedule the day of and you're now working when you planned something, but then when you bring it up that you had planned around a shift that was on or off the schedule for days, YOU are the bad guy. That being said, it just boils down to this: the clients are great and appreciative for the most part. The office management is awful. This was supposed to be a temporary job but I work such sporadic hours, sometimes going from working 6 hours to adding on another 7 hour shift at the last minute, I don't even have time to go interview for others jobs. Work/life balance is awful. Just avoid this place at all costs.

Extremely unprofessional
This company is in shambles, employees are supposed to be introduced to the clients BEFORE we go down to their homes but the office always put me in for people Ive never even met, the people in the office are not understanding in the slightest, (they blame you for the work that they are too lazy to put effort into and actually do their jobs properly) they are UNPROFESSIONAL while speaking to both employees and clients, even people that I know who also work with the company have said the same, the people in the office always call every single day even on your days off and when you dont answer they just keep on calling and HARRASS you. If I answer the phone & they ask if I can do a shift & I answer with a no and explain to them why as I cant do a shift outside my area as I do not drive & that that is client that I have never met before they ask several times and PUT PRESSURE ON EMPLOYEES before taking no for an answer, they ask me if they can get me a taxi there also several times before taking no for an answer. THE COMPANY DO NOT DEAL WITH PROBLEMS ACCURATELY. I called in highly ill one morning and explained that I could not work as I did not want to make the clients sick and they still inissted that I go to my first shift, I called hours before I was supposed to be at any shifts so that they would have time to call some other carers who are able to give the clients the care that they need but they still insisted that I go to my first one. THE PEOPLE ON CALL CAN NOT and DO NOT

Never short of work, work with and meet wonderful people, very dependable office staff.
I worked for comfort keepers for two years, and overall it was an amazing experience. First and foremost I had to pleasure of working alongside my co-workers who were always there to help if and when I needed assistance. The relationships and bonds formed in this line of work are ones I know will be hard to come across again. Clients we visit everyday in their homes look forward to our arrival as some clients live alone and do not see anyone else for the day. To provide such comfort and happiness for another person by simply being there is a very rewarding feeling. As a care assistant we provide companionship, personal and nutritional care ensuring our clients have the highest quality of life that is achievable. Comfort keepers do not pay travel expenses, however if you are available to work 25-30 hours a week it is worth your while, this company has a large volume of clients in all areas, If you choose the area in which you live you won't have far to travel to your client and if you are willing to do the hours and work hard it is very much worth your while. I worked 6 out of 7 days every week for two years and was happy doing these hours, if you ever need a dig out the company will do all they can to assist you. Progression and promotion is very possible in this company if you are diligent hardworking individual.
ProsExcellent managers, wonderful team of people to work, constantly improving where they can.

Show up to clients home on time. Perform all tasks on the employee app, along with anything else they may need help with (that we are hired to do). When next shift employee arrives you check everything off in app, leave notes if needed and that's really it.

Asked Jan 31, 2017
Not what I thought it was. I was send to carw for a client and the drive only to their house took an 1hr. Then she assign me the next client and just to get their house according to GPS was an HR. I told the coordinator I want 20 min radius to drive. I already quit she won't even pay to fix the flat tire I got while traveling there.
