Not best management and terrible top bosses
The CFO and COO committed fraud, which was at least one of the reasons why the company went bankrupt so there's a terrible note right off the start. When that happened, there was no phone call or anything. I just came in one day and everyone was packing their things. My top H.R. guy didn't even know what to do or where to go from there and could only tell me to talk to the company's "legals". Whatever that's supposed to mean. Plus, most of the managers weren't that helpful during training at all. Most of them barked orders at the experienced guys and didn't listen to reason when problems came up.

Knowledge of transportation industry
Celadon Trucking was without a doubt the opening of doors for me to the transportation industry. As customer service, I tracked shipments, booking of freight in the AS400, answer customer's concern, and giving out rates. I was transferred to the equipment control department and later because equipment control supervisor where I supervised a total of around 7-8 employees. I got the opportunity to be office manager, dealing with Mexican carriers, taking care of payroll and supervising the damages/detention and equipment control departments, while supervising 12-15 employees.
ProsExcellent employer, nice working environment
ConsNone that I can think off

Making Progress
After some very terrible decisions made by previous management Celadon is currently on the rebound. Good management is in place and some serious staffing changes are taking place. Now if only the culture change could go at a quickened pace this may be an enjoyable place to work.
ProsNew management and work life balance
ConsCulture, culture, culture. Compensation and terrible benefits also

They file bankruptcy
The company filed for bankruptcy leaving everyone without a job. They could off done a better job in communicating what was going on with the company, giving everyone a chance to prepare for this tragic moment, specially on this time of the year.

Working inside and outside
Typical day would be teaching new hires about company policy and how to make more money while being an owner operator truck driver. Teaching a safe driving and accident avoidance class, Also being a go to person for the drivers between the repair shop and the leasing office to help the drivers get on the road faster. Also did recruiting to assist in getting more drivers for the company.
ProsDressed in jeans and comfy shoes. Great work hours.
ConsManagement of the Knoxville TN office lied a lot.

Celadon was an amazing employer
I loved my job at Celadon. I am very disappointed that the company closed and I lost my job. While working there I was able to learn a new skill that I hope to take on to another company.

Fair place to work
When I started with Celadon I started as a company driver and ended up as an owner / operator along with my wife,[we are now separated because of Celadon] who teamed with me while we there. We leased and paid off a 2008 Volvo semi and I got asked to leave, thus causing the above mentioned separation. I will admit freely that part of my leaving them was my fault, however they did not try to help fix the problem either. They claimed that they were a family oriented company. That later remained to seen. It was not my fellow workers per say as much as was the overall managing of the company. My wife and I felt that we got burned on the lease program and never made the promised revenue that they said we would make. There were several weeks, and or months that we went with getting paid.. Since then my has left them for greener pastures as I'm trying to do.
ProsFriendly pepole working there in the repair shops and in dispatch.Pay avalable on Thursday.
ConsLieing to their drivers and keeping them confused.

If you were to leave Celadon Trucking, what would be the reason?
Asked Mar 28, 2017
Not enough miles, DMs are a bunch of sexist, racist dullards, they keep messing with your money, not properly paid, trucking leaking exhaust into cabin and it wasn't being taken seriously, belittling, no sense of urgency when needed, skeleton crew on weekends, not wanting to pay for the maintenance needed on trailer/tractors/etc. The list goes on.
Answered Oct 5, 2019
They miles, and therefore pay, is lower than promised. My sign-on bonus had certain milestones for payouts, and it seems the milestones keep getting pushed out further and further. I finally got my first sign-on bonus payout and it’s $1,000 less than it’s supposed to be. I drive team, and we have to CONSTANTLY complain in order to get steady miles. We get assigned to loads and then taken off the load once were almost at the destination, etc. Very poorly managed, dispatch and load planning is a nightmare. In an industry claiming to be so desperate for drivers, we shouldn’t have to struggle to make money. Not to mention the time away from home and family. Is it really worth it?

What is the work environment and culture like at Celadon Trucking?
Asked Jul 7, 2016
They focus on a high dollar high cost terminal. The terminals cost a large amount of money. The taxes must be staggering. Their focus is to make the terminal comfortable then never get driver home
Answered Feb 7, 2019
Working at celadon would be a beautiful job if your dm or dispatcher would have repercussions for bulling intimadateing haressing belittling playing games that cause the driver to stress worried if the buddies system would end it would be a great place they can do or say what they want to u with no punishment
