Great place to grow!
It might be the food industry, but Caffe Nero was/is a wonderful place to learn about yourself and others while growing as a professional. It was the best years of my life for sure!

Long hours for little paid, lack of management
I worked for Caffè Nero for a short time due that it was almost impossible to keep up with schedules. The manager would schedule you for a closing and opening the very next day (1-10pm one day 6am-3pm next day) i felt it was modern day slavery. There is no dishwasher, so you have to work the bar, keep the floor clean of silverware and wash the dishes with very low staff. There is no organization, there is always people late and management lacks care. I wouldn’t recommend

A different feel to the coffee world
I have only been with the company for about 3 weeks now. I am enjoying myself. It's a different feel. The customers are very nice. The store has a very relaxed feel to it. Makes it comfortable for the neighborhood.
ProsFree lunches
ConsSalary, because if i do 50 hours i dont get paid for those hours

"Work hard, play hard."
I have so much fun at work, but no one will pay you to just hang around. The atmosphere is great. The hardest part of the job is making sure quality and speed meet when making beverages. The most enjoyable part is seeing customers leave with a smile on their face.

A close knit family atmosphere
Each day is different and brings new challenges which i enjoy. Communication is key in any work enviroment with the staff and customers alike. It is a small work place which i am not used too so learning how to step back has been a challenge as i am used to having to take charge. It is a close team and i have enjoyed getting to have a closer working relationship with my team. What i have found hard is that i am used to being busier so sometimes find the slower days difficult. I love serving the customers, its great to introduce new customers into the brand and make them feel welcome but also to welcome back the regulars and get to be part of their day to day lives.
ProsGreat store
ConsShort breaks

Over worked and underpaid.
The shifts can differ all over the place, sometimes meaning you don't get the legal requirement of hours between finishing and starting again. You are expected to close the store perfectly but the 30 min time frame is impossible to do a good job of it, meaning you end up working around 30 mins extra for free on most closes. Management are very unprofessional and hard to communicate with. You only get a 20 min break, even if your working a 10/ 11 hour shift. You have to serve 2 customers at any one time which is a system that doesn't work as customers at the back of the queue can be greeted, served and have their drinks ready while the 1st 2 people are still waiting. You are expected to come in on your days off for meetings and cleans etc, sometimes you may have to work a long time before getting a day off, e.g one day off and then back in for 12 in a row. It all depends on your managers regarding the team building etc.
ProsFree lunch, contracted hours
ConsVery short breaks, no work life balance

If not for Covid i would still be there
By far the best company I have worked for. They keep their word and manage results by developing people. Have worked for many companies that say people come before profits, this is the first company that actually lived it.
ProsPeople before profits
ConsCovid sucks... slowed growth for a bit but im sure they will be back.

fun and hard working environment
Gained leadership skills and developed and management abilities by supervising staff during my shifts on duty. Used to manage the store during managers absence. Improved my problem solving skill by dealing tactfully with customers complaints. Responsible about banking, cashing up, sunday`s paperwork ,dealing with orders and suppliers. Learnt to deal with new staff members, training them, providing them with help in the busiest times.
