Team Member
Please see previous review on Bunnings Team Member tool shop. I was intially based @ Aurburn & then recieved a transfer closer to home into the Crossroads Store.
Bunnings was a great place to work and I'd recoomend it to anyone who's looking for a fun atmosphere to work in.
Working as a Trade Specialist can be a very fast - paced, stressful job but it is also very rewarding to be able to provide great customer service and get to know your customers.
I spent the last two years at Bunnings in Tools and the Paint Dept and was disappointed that they dont pay for experience considering that I have spent over 20 yrs in Hardware and was continually asked questions by other staff so that they could answer correctly to the customer.
With a change in Management I didnt like the way they operated and treated staff and felt that we were continually under surveilance by either camera or floor staff...TRUST is something one works hard for.
Prosgood team members
Consfor what they pay you work bloody hard for the meagre wages

Fun workplace at times
Everyday at Bunnings are mostly enjoyable ones. There is something new to learn or a new set of skills to gain everyday. It can be stressful at times during peak hours of the day and not enough staff around to help. I enjoy working with lovely people who make being there a lot more fun.
ProsFree lunches and team members
Conslong hours, stressful at times

good
always having something to do, such as putting away stock or serving customers, never ending work
Bunnings was a failed exercise. The idea, have the staff feel part of a Bunnings family; although it seemed a bit cult-ish, was great in principle, but it's realization was just as disappointing as one of the sausage sizzlers sold on a weekly basis... Buy a nice enough sausage... serve it in the plainest white slice!
The staff, my colleagues came from lots of different backgrounds, and all of them were great in their unique ways... I don't miss the job, but I miss them immensely. Thankfully despite the Bunnings experiment having gone as far under as it's homeland. Most of the staff kept their jobs under the reinstated homebase brand!
Learned to work in a busy and rewarding retail environment
Worked for 19 years for a great company with many fantastic individuals and gained valuable experience in the retail sector. Enjoyed every minute of it and still enjoy some wonderful friendships for the place
Bunnings gives you an opportunity to be able to better yourself. They are all offering new things to learn, also very family orientated. If you have a problem they are quite easy to talk too. The management do not just sit in office they are hands on. Since I started with them my confidence had doubled to be able to take on the position of receptionist and own that position.
ProsFree lunches, dress up days, awards nights, Christmas party
Bunnings is an awesome place to work. The Team culture is amazing and I loved the interaction with customers and the opportunity to help them find what they required .

Enjoyable Workplace but not much chance for advancement
I enjoy working for Bunnings but I would like the opportunity to advance to a higher position within the company.
I have a few different Qualifications but it doesnt seem to make much of a difference.
It is a large company and it is very easy to be overlooked in your goals.
ProsLove working with customers and team members.
Conslong hours in one position (door Greeter for 8 to 9 hrs in one shift)
Enjoyable working environment with fellow team members
Customer service everyday, gaining experience liasing with vendors. Advancing on leadership skills working with a great bunch of people, enjoying taking pride in nursery with well presented products, merchandising plants and customer service. Hardest part would be unreliable roster system and working weekends.
ProsWorking with plants, maintaining nursery to its highest level.
To work for Bunnings is like working for a family. Very caring company. Can be developed in different areas. Changes happens frequently. Company is goal orientated.
Well Bunnings have been good to me, I quit the job because I HATED THE 5:00 starts sometimes.
This company runs like a well oiled machine, yes there are unhappy people that works here, but they don't have a choice, it's a job.
With Bunnings you somewhat have complete control, in stock inventory, orders, etc.
Unlike other companies I worked with, even if your a supervisor, you have to get authorization to order, even if its a tape measure.
Bunnings mentality with their suppliers is this, WE ARE GOD, YOU DO WHAT WE WANT OR WE WILL NOT CARRY YOUR PRODUCT.
Yes, that's how they operate. they have the buying power, biggest hardware chain in Australia. You better do what they say.
Also Bunnings have this bank of hours for employees, this actually means.
If you are a full time worker, they will pay you, your full time wage, but there are times they will make you go home. Because they will tell you they have no budget.
Every day on morning meeting, the stores meets the projected daily sales, and they tell you no budget...that's a bit funny I think.
Which means, on some days you have to work on the hours they paid you, specially during the busy season.
I know a LOT of team members hate this, but they can't say no.
The great thing about Bunnings, you have job security, I see entire family working at Bunnings.
They also give you stock every year if your full time, and also bonuses.
You get a gift as well during christmas.
That my Bunnings litt
