its alright
Build-a-Bear is not a great company to work for as far as advancement goes and job security, but it's a very fun place to work with a nice work-life balance and nice culture. Awful, awful pay. Build-a-Bear basically commits robbery when it comes to wages. They expect employees to do the most, above and beyond for little, little wage.

Fun and Exciting
Build a bear is a great place to work if you enjoy making children smile and bringing laughter to families. The job only requires patience and appropriate behavior!

Nice Job, Terrible Hours
Great first time job for me, but hours are terrible. You get hours based on how busy the store get. Holidays were the best times money wise. But Sumer time, or any other time, you work less than 10 hours for the whole week, which means NO MONEY!!! Only the managers got scheduled, putting more money in their pockets and not the regular sales associates.

Build A Bear
I love Build A Bear! I learned a lot and will miss it there, however the pay is why I am forced to leave. A typical day at work would be clocking in, putting on my favorite uniform (a stuffed animal backpack) and getting ready to have a lot of fun with my co workers, the furry friends and our customers.

At the beginning
At first it was great until the wool is pulled over your eyes... I loved the bear builders and little kids, but management and higher up was horrible. I left due to the blame game...

Fun job with a close-knit staff
Working at Build A Bear Workshop is equivalent to getting paid to be a 5 year old. While it's still a retail job that includes customer service, scheduling, filing, utilizing a register - all things a 5 year old typically doesn't do - the main focus of it is playing with guests and making sure they have a good time.
My management team and I maintain open communication about business, employees and their training, and how to best utilize ourselves and our staff to run our days as smoothly as possible.
The hardest part of working there is making someone's day when their reason for visiting isn't a good one - death in the family, hospitalization, deployment, etc. This, however, also adds into the best part about working there. No matter what happens, you keep smiling. Even if you personally are having a bad day or have your own troubles happening in your personal life, being the best part of someone else's day really makes you feel better about yourself. There's ALWAYS one guest that sticks out to you, and it;s a good thing to hold on to when you need it.

Great Company
Loved working here! Depending on who was manager on duty would depend on breaks, some are good with time management skills and others are not and really shouldn’t be in a management position. Hours are sorely lacking except extremely flexible.

Great place to work, upbeat and fun, staff discounts, work long hours
Working at Build-A- Bear was a blast! Being a Bear Builder, its your job to make sure that each and every guest that comes in leaves with a smile on their face and a memorable experience. The staff was so much fun to work with and overtime I considered them family. Yes there were times that working there was hard but that is part of every job. This is a retail position so don't expect to have weekends off and be expected to stay late. I was also a party leader, leading birthday parties for children of all ages. Most of theses happen on the weekends so prepare to be busy. The one cool thing about working there was that I did get a staff discount merchandise so it made it easy to buy gifts for friends during the holiday seasons. All holidays are busy with Christmas being the busiest so be prepared for long hours.

Fun Workplace
A typical day at Build-A-Bear would be fun and cheery. Excellent customer service and patience is essential as it is working with children. Working with children is the most enjoyable part of the job as their face just lights up when their bear comes to life. The down side to this job was the late payments.
