My day starts with preparing myself by gathering as much information from the system about orders that were blocked for delivery, making sure those customers know why they blocked and usually it is an account issue - not having paid. On he customer and arranging proof of payments to make sure the will then have to follow up on the issue by notifying customer receives his stock and the sale is made, thereby getting closer to volume target.
I then print their targets for the day, plan the route and head out to the trade planning every call by volume target, availability and optimizing model stock to decrease the risk of stock outs even in the event off account issues. Discussions about pricing, notifying and implementation of adhoc or regional promotions to create pull from customers to consumer is key. Packing and shelf planograms must be communicated to the trade representative as well as competitor activity to the manager and the key accounts manger where applicable.
The challenging part of my job is the slow reaction of my giant company to an ever changing market. I need to make plans that not only satisfy the end consumer but also to keep my customer base and relationships on par.
I've learnt that in this industry consistency and reliability is the name of the game. You don't over promise and under deliver. The more reliable I am to my customers (especially in a market affected by dark marketing) the more they are loyal to putting your brand in he face of the cons
Prosmaking it work under a tough regulated enviroment
Consprocesses are slower than that of what i was i used to. one size fits all structure.
Sunset Industry with cutting headcount and stressful environment
Cons
While working as an intern there, I observed that employees were always on their toes for fears of losing their job. Work life balance was not the best, OT was encouraged and employees were quite stressed at times.
The company supposedly implemented a lean management system (Integrated Work System), which focuses on lean management, but it seems that the employees and technicians are not accepting of the idea. The principle/milestones achieved are only on paper, but do not represent the actual reality. Management needs to reevaluate the goals and systems in place.
Pros
Fortunately, I was working under a good supervisor. He guided me through the work and taught me on the importance on lean management in manufacturing. Unfortunately, he left shortly after my internship ended.
Top management supervision, Very regular, HSE wised activities, On time admin. discipline
I indeed admire the regulations, standards and schedules in the whole company in regard to personel attending for their duties or getting services.
The most important subject in BAT is the security affair. I may express my feeling and overall conclusion in the company EH&S is one of the toppest duties for any individual.
The culture is good enough, management supervision is sensible every where visible and invisible. Special days and Feasts are much considered and respected by the management team.
ProsAll day meals and breaks are considered free
Consshort breals and SSO is offered according to the local regulations

Friendly managers and staff
Working for BAT was brilliant I worked in various departments and different jobs. I started in the pool department and when I left I was a Electricians Assistant. The managers and staff where always listen to new ideas and where easy to talk to, and where interested in staff well fare. When my wife past away they gave me time off and the Staff and Managers had a whip round to help me with funeral expenses. I have had several jobs and found that the back stabbing and trying to score points where alien to me as this never happened in the BAT.
ProsFree lunches, health care, dental care, discounts, friendly managers and staff
Good organization structure and great company culture
"It's extremely challenging to whom working in the tobacco industry particular marketers to build marketing strategy in a highly regulated industry like ours. It is like swimming with our hands and feet tied, but still we are not allowed to drown but to win. Personally I think challenges can help us reach a higher limit of ourselves. To me, BAT is a great environment to enrich my knowledge and skills - it is a place where employees are encouraged to propose even the boldest ideas."
Great place to work with great values and guiding principles
a typical day at work was quite interesting; each day came with new challenges and different opportunities. My ability to analyse issues looking at different perspectives and to multitask was greatly improved.
Working with really intelligent people also kept me on my toes driving me to seek improvement of self on a daily basis.
BAT is definitely a fun, welcoming and great place to work. There is an enabling environment for growth and employees are held in high esteem.
BAT creates that environment that wants to keep you in the office not just for work, but also for fun. I learned how to interact professionally with people, especially people from other parts of the world.
The workplace culture is very warm and always inviting. The hardest part of the job is the fact that there was really nothing hard about the job. It was fun!!
The most enjoyable part of the job is getting rewarded on the go for every mini project you deliver on. Now, that's very encouraging.

They have a great career path definition and respect this most of the time. They invest in their managers so they can be properly train to manage people.
The only inconvenient is that you are so interested in do a great job and be in the spotlight so you can grow fast that you forget about your personal life.

I am the Global Service Desk End Market Operations Manager for Asia Pacific and my remit is to ensure the quality of the delivery of service from the Fujitsu Service Desk to BAT End Markets in Asia Pacific. My role also includes responsibility for running the Major Incident Management process within Zone 3 but also globally if required.
The service is managed through a monthly Service Review structure with the markets and Fujitsu but I also act as an escalation point for the markets for high priority issues into the Fujitsu desk but also for Fujitsu back to the markets.
An important part of the job is the landing of projects from all parts of BAT at the service desk. These could be incredibly small projects to massive projects like Tao.
What’s a typical day like for you in BAT? A typical day for me in BAT involves managing any escalations that may have come to the Global Incident and Crisis Management team and contacting the desk and the service line owners to help see any incidents or requests through to fruition. I could also have a Service Review with an end market which requires a great deal of preparation in terms of analyzing reports for the Fujitsu KPIs, reviewing the IMF results along with the actual review and follow up. Thankfully a typical day doesn’t involve a MI but we must continuously scan the large amount of P1 and P2 alerts we receive from the desk on email for anything that has the potential to be a major incident.

indeed, after my higher technical studies in France, I had been recruited by BAT (British American Tobacco International) for its technical department in Brussels in order to send me to CAMEROON in their new subsidiary.
arrived in their subsidiary in feb 1988, and then then Immediately transferred to the technical department as assistant factory engineer for about 15 months.
Then later on I took over the technical department as a factory engineer in 1990.

Cosa ho imparato: in una frase 'People make the difference'.
