British Airways Reputation makes it all worth it
Easy job with great opportunities for an accommodating job work/life balance. A typical day at work is like that of any other airline. Never the same and always exciting and unpredictable. An easy job and worth its weight on one's resume.

Inclusive micromanaged atmosphere
Micromanagement in a typical call center environment with metrics etc. Your schedule and time off are bid one year in advance and based on seniority. There are unethical practices by management getting romantically involved with subordinates. But, there is a sense of pride amongst the work pods and a family feeling that give you a sense of belonging where many life long friendships have been forged.
Prosco-workers; pot lucks

The good days are gone.
I report to a lot of people with over 25 years experience at British Airways. It's a really big company with a substantial presence in the US, however all major decisions come from the UK which results in communication and strategic decisions being delayed. The hardest part of the job is that there's been so much turnover so training has been limited and I'm flying by the seat of my pants most days. That being said, I am exposed to a lot of different departments and I work on a lot of important HR initiatives for the company because there are so few people with an HR skillset.
ProsThe brand
ConsUK model does not work well with keeping up to US standards, several HR complications

Work-load and tight deadlines make for day to day excitement!
This Airlines/Position never has a dull moment. It's fast paced with
tight cut off/deadlines. Multitasking is a must and working here has enhanced my multitasking skills. I work with a variety of co-workers,
agents/staff. I enjoy working along side everyone and learning about
their cultures and diversity.

Very enjoyable career with an International Airline
With my position as Customer Service Agent there was ongoing education of the airline industry. It was enjoyable while interesting in speaking and assisting customers all over the world. The management staff was always helpful in assisting agents in many different venues, including any customer concerns or conflicts. I would say the hardest part of this position was in meeting expectations of average handling time while providing excellent customer service.
ProsResolving issues of air travel with people from all over the world.
ConsDo not have any cons, as I loved this company and my position.

Great fast paced place to work with options for advancement
Fast paced airline position where you can always find options for advancement. Great pay, great vacation benefits and travel benefits. Nice variety of people to work with. Most difficult part of the job is dealing with flight delays and cancellations. Best part of the job is the vacations you receive and salaries. As being with an international airline, the options to see the world is endless.

Lowest paying skilled work employer
The majority of the workforce are agency recruited and only paid basic wage for doing skilled work and having to work weekends at normal rate whilst core workers are paid an enhanced rate plus their basic rate is higher.
Core workers (the minority of the workforce) are paid productivity bonuses twice a year in the region of £600.00 each.
Agency workers are expected to maximise output to ensure core workers receive their full bonus payments.
Some agency workers have been there in excess of 12 years without being made core workers.
There is definitely a "them and us culture" and as a top manager once stated "agency workers are seen as a transient workforce".
I have yet to come across an agency worker who does not seek to find a permanent job!

It was a good help in a lifestyle of an engineer.
A typical day work was fast paced but also straight forward and not too stressful. I was able to shadow an engineer on my placement and how his/her day would go. Management liked to interact with their workers. Everyone there was very friendly and welcoming amongst the workers.
