BOW FP&A Budgeting & Forecasting - Terrible Management and Terrible Place to work !!!
Management think of employees not as value added, but as costs that must be lowered and cut as much as possible.
This feedback is for the Corporate FP&A (San Ramon) department's budget & forecasting team especially. Very minimum ownership on projects in this team. When working with financial models, it is often to spend hours and days to discuss color of a cell or the width of a column, or how to name a work file. This is very inefficient use of time and waste of resources. Management does not listen to advices, it is either their way or the highway, but their way is actually very time consuming and inefficient. Managers in this team have 15, 20+ years of experience and think like the 1990s. People with this much experience could spent their time better moving projects along instead of spending days checking on cell colors and column widths everyday. Every minor work details require approvals from management. There is no learning gained from working in this group as everything resolves around documentations and format fixing. You are expected to work as told with no ideas and originality because " We Paid for You to Work". period. Do not expect to work for this team and learn, you learn NOTHING. you are a workhorse (work 9am to 8pm is normal and expected) who does not need to be appreciated for hard work and for being analytical. You will be given meaningless work and be expected to complete everything 2 hours ago. Even if you finish the project in one hour, you will spen

Accepting of Complacency, Managers Not Digitally Trained
Generally felt displaced from management at the more junior level, extreme lack of thought into organizational structure and strategy so that many hurdles have to be jumped in order to get a simple job completed. There is also a lack of communication strategy which it feels like the juniors are disconnected from higher management. Also many (not all) of the directors are unable to perform rudimentary processes with existing technology, like spell check, approving internal requests, scheduling calendar invites, navigate Microsoft word and power point. There also doesn't seem to be an onus on the manager to "manage" but instead to command and demand which makes the position very tiring.
The more positive aspects of working here is that at least the company is focused on sustainability banking and diversity and inclusion. Compared to another bank I used to be at, there is also a little more visibility at the junior level to the senior bankers (which is a double edged sword). There has been an attempt to reconnect junior analysts with the more senior bankers, however, nothing has changed, and it doesn't feel like there has been effort to make change besides empty. If only they could execute the strategy and communication from up top to the more junior analysts, that would help quite a lot.
ProsLate work meals after 8:30 & Uber, lack of management gives a sense of freedom.
ConsFacetime pressure to stay at the office late and come in early, especially with older managers, managers are unable to use technology properly and navigate the Microsoft Word Suite, strong sense of facetime, lots of admin work which gets in the way of personal development in a role of this caliber.

Bank of the Worst
There is certainly a reason that Bank of the West is known among employees as Bank of the Worst. The sales goals are comparable to other banks; however the products are not. The pay is less than other financial institutions and the benefits are average. The best thing about the company is the ability to use tuition reimbursement. The management is TERRIBLE at all levels including branch, region, and executive. The culture is rather cutthroat given that the goals aren't that challenging. I was a high performing banker without having to put in an excessive amount of effort. This company is all about who you know and not what you know. Nepotism gets you far.
The growth strategy of the company is not sustainable and often leads to further setbacks because the plans are not well planned nor executed. The only thing I enjoyed day-to-day was customer interactions. 5 years ago, when I came on board, I felt that the company was headed in a good direction, at this point, I feel that the company will hire anyone willing to show up. The employees often behave as though they are being inconvenienced by the work itself or customers.
As a whole, knowing what I know now, I would never have started with the company. I stayed because of the location being close to home. A market manager was brought on that was very thoughtful and encouraging and she was great for my development. She has left the company due to many of the reasons listed above and this has been a catalyst in my seeking employ

The culture is one of "too many chiefs, not enough Indians". Regional managers lack the ability to support teams in the field. They simply repeat old ideas that are spewed over and over through multiple conference calls, reports and activities that add up to nothing. Rather than actually focus on ideas that work, they continue to regurgitate the same thing over and over.
Area Managers are puppets to the regional managers who all have the mentality of being a dictator. You will do what we tell you to do or else you will be fired. Management by threats means you lack the ability to manage people and are a bean counter.
Incentive plan is a joke. Incentive plan is based on a antiquated point system that favors the company. Why would you cap a sales persons incentive? That makes no sense what so ever.
Back to the upper management, they all sit in their offices barking orders and never leave their office. All they do is orchestrate conference calls to justify their jobs. And when they heat comes down on them, they just simply blame everyone else.
Business partners don't help, they simply look for handouts and when they don't get enough, they're quick to report you to management and throw you under the bus.
ProsAverage base salary; 401k matching
ConsEverything.. it's just a stepping stone to finding something better.

Productive and detalied attention to high profile clients, business oriented.
Daily worked flow consist of checking reports, ensuring all systems were up and running properly. Handling of any past due payments that needed further instruction or out of the country assistance. The company provided many online and premises courses, such as: Leading with Success, Coaching your team. These courses provided you with tools to assist your team and peers throughout a course of a day, project or outstanding issue. Management was present and helpful. Email was the first form of contact for recording and feedback purposes. Overall my co-workers were all hardworking and there to complete their responsibilities, the atmosphere was friendly and easy going. The hardest part of this job was completing every aspect of the job within the timeframe, we were short on staff and heavy on workload. This took a lot of prioritizing. Ensuring you have provided the utmost experience for your client. When they call you for direct support, you have done your job successfully and this brings great satisfaction.

Very nice place to work
As the Administrative Assistant to 4 Managing Directors; 2 Directors; Vice Presidents in the Latin American and Mining and Metal Teams; a typical day involved heavy planning of travel including air, hotel, ground transportation. I learned the workings of the Oil and Gas as well as Mining industries. My managers were very helpful and provided a very cohesive working environment. My co-workers were superb hailing from France, Latin America and everyone came together sharing values and customs. At times, planned travel schedules will change abruptly to accommodate rescheduling of meetings, which sometimes resulted in a challenge of securing new flights and hotels. With very good relationship working with travel service, I was able to solve these issues to accommodate needed changes to itineraries.
The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting and working with employees from many countries as we also had summer interns, where I assisted with on-boarding.
Pluses are 1) generous vacation days 4wks to start across the board (but you may not be able to use it all as constant cost cutting means you will be doing way more than your fair share for your salary) and 2) the 401k match of a certain percentage of your salary.
Depends on your team, but in the decade long experience, there has been no work life balance. It's been progressively longer and longer days and then weekends to be able to do all the work.
There are more French expats at the company than one would expect. There is a chance you will experience culture shock if you are an American used to working in an English speaking professional environment. If your dept has many French speakers, you could feel like an outsider as they will speak to each other in French conversationally and if the conversation changes to work matters you end up missing out on important information.
Prosgenerous vacation days, good benefits
ConsLocal CEO changes every few years. below market pay, no work life balance, constant cost cutting
I was bullied by my former manager (she was not my initial hiring manager). She damaged my reputation and appraisal, making it not only difficult working and keeping my dignity on a daily basis, but also sabotaged my career and evolution within the bank. It was such a pity that for such a female-run hierarchy, very little was done to challenge the bully's behavior. Like harassment, it is usually the target that ends up leaving the company. HR is all about image and publicity on topics of diversity and respect in the workplace, but it appears to do very little efforts to improve age-old problems of harassment perpetrated by "important" and profit-generating employees. On the other hand, I give credit to the Corporate Banking world as a whole - management and staff in general are very helpful, cooperative, and generally great to work with. I am grateful for having worked with this bank. I was just unfortunate to fall under the wrong management.

Ok for the short term, not ideal long term
As a younger person working in a full time job for the first time this was a fairly good experience to have, working for a company like this will look good on your CV, it's definitely worth considering if you want to work in a bank as an accountant or any other financial career.
The salary for a younger person is pretty good, if your an older person who has a family to provide for you might want to look elsewhere if your looking for a similar role.
In terms of the actual call centre itself I feel there's room for alot of improvement, the management's support for the call centre agents I felt was subpar and inconsistent.
I felt the training wasn't engaging, it was hard to absorb that much information in just a few weeks alot of what you learn is when your actually on the calls.
There were alot of cases where there's no managers on the floor for assistance, understable on the odd occasion, for example if they're in an important meeting, however this happened quite frequently.
Some of the managers are not as knowledgeable on a specific areas than others (there's 3 main areas in customer service Fixed Term, Card and IPF) Which I personally feel isn't helpful for new starters who may need more support if they don't have alot of experience doing finance in the past like I didn't.
I also felt some of the managers and lead agents appeared frustrated and impatient. when you asked for support and there feedback came off condescending and sometimes even slightly rud
ProsThe salary was decent, hours weren't too bad, alot of nice colleagues
ConsInconsistent infrastructure, support from management was average at best

I learned a lot and I was productive - not always welcome
Typical day at work. - I was hired to a data entry position in a Transfer agency environment. The system had a problem in the shareholder register. The automatic deals upload system was rejecting about 60 deals a day that had to be reencoded. I thought about a macro in vba with the corrections, editing of the text of deals and reupload.
This was done in the first 15 days of work. Then I began to know that there was a problem between the IT in Dublin and the IT of Luxembourg. They did not communicate well at that time.
So There were actually many little issues like that across the departments. I began to make macros with sendkey to control emulated AS400 ibm terminals. Encoding and uploading information.
They had problems with NAV calculation which is perhaps the worst problem in TA. If you are not aware and you have many agents you are distributing a wrong price for your fund and when people notice you must come to all agents making reversals. The workload explodes and it is not your usual working day it is an extra load alongside your normal workload. In those circumstances a properly implemented macro can save the day.
The most enjoyable part of the work was actually saving the day but later on the middle management got aggravated with me because they interpreted my initiative as a power overtake.
There were some idle computers in the bank and I put all of them to work as ghost workers encoding data. Ireland IT saw that there were more terminals workin
During the period I worked for BNP Paribas, I learned about the financial market, settlement operations, the software used by BNP Paribas Securities Services for securities transactions, how to instruct transactions (via SWIFT messages) in different markets (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, etc) and the respective market rules.
This knowledge was essential in order to answer client queries regarding failed trades (normally due to wrong or late instructions, missed deadlines or lack of securities or cash).
A typical day at work consisted in monitoring the transactions of clients assigned to my team, answering client queries and requests, and performing and checking all tasks included in our daily task list.
My managers were supportive when necessary but did not have a very direct relationship with my work. In regard to my co-workers, the relationship was great. In addition, I also developed a good relationship with many of our clients and helped increasing their satisfaction.
If I could describe our work environment in few words I would say the following: 1) productive, 2) stressful, 3) team spirit and 4) fun.
The hardest part of the job were the moments when we were short of staff and had many tasks to perform in short time in order to meet the deadlines or answer client queries or requests in due time. It was stressful. Another aspect that wasn't very positive was the repeatability of daily tasks and the off-peak moments at the end of the day
