Not impressed
As a PRN employee I get to see things from a different perspective as I'm not there as often as full-time or part-time employees are. I'm amazed at the unprofessional look of their personnel - you cannot tell who is a nurse, tech, RT, OT, x-ray tech etc., because I see so many people in leggings, jeans, t-shirts, and just sloppy attire. It's rather sad to see this as I think it presents a terrible image for professional workers. I honestly cannot tell who my peers are (nurses) unless I look at the color of their pants. But it makes me wonder what patients think when they see people dressed like this taking care of them - do the patients even know who is taking care of them because there does not seem to be any clear cut uniform standard. Managment is something I rarely see and when I do see them, they have no idea who I am or why I'm even there -- my scheduling is done via emails through another RN in my unit. Training and education for PRN employees (at least in my area) was horrible and I'm still struggling even after 8 months to figure out where things are, how to navigate Cerner, and understand the culture at this large company. I'm glad I'm not full time because the benefits I hear are absolutely horrible on the insurance front - high-deductible health insurance that makes it extremely difficult for their own workers to get access to care. They advertise world-class care but even their own employees complain they have difficulty getting access to it let alone
ProsAppears to be many growth opportunities for FT employees; teaching hospital
ConsLousy benefits, poor communication, absent management

This company is all about appearances and the bottom line
This is less of a health care company and more of a production line. The lab work has grown exponentially, but space, equipment, and staffing has not. There is a severe lack of communication between leaders and employees. There is rampant favoritism in job promotions. Many managers are blatantly dishonest and untrustworthy. The company, on first look, has some strengths. They encourage stewardship and a healthy work-life balance. However, the laboratories are so short-staffed and undertrained that there is no room for those theories to be practiced. Mandatory overtime is handed out, vacations are denied, and people are "placed" into positions with no regard for seniority or competency. I would never recommend this lab system, to a patient or a prospective worker. This company is all about the numbers. A Core Lab concept (a $20 million facility) has recently been implemented. It is short staffed and ill equipped for the volume. The LEAN method has been adopted in this Core facility and is based on the module founded by Toyota, a manufacturing facility. While some of the concepts are admirable and a clear improvement (the organizational aspects), they are not fitting for a laboratory environment. Supply ordering is consistently interrupted, managers are overwhelmed with instrument issues, and paperwork, and there is a severe communication deficit between shifts. The LEAN module has made it so that supervisors of departments are in charge of departments and testing they have NE
ProsDecent breakroom
ConsShort breaks, understaffed, under-trained staff, Supervisors with no knowledge of departments, unsafe parking behind warehouse for night shift workers, dishonest supervisors, perferential practices only for certain employees, rare available PTO

Physician Network Department was a work family with independent hard working employees
The typical day at work was coordinating the workload, entry/scanning documents into medical records, processing fax reports, and answering questions for staff. Updating Health Maintenance was a priority so I worked on that continuously as reports came in. I learned to build a great rapport with the outside practices that sent in reports, which led to a wonderful working relationship, especially when problems arose. We were able to work together to come to a solution. Management expected myself and my staff to work independently and to get the work done. I worked unsupervised for the majority of each week, and just touched base with my Vice President to keep him updated. The culture at Atrium health was very fair, open, and accepting of every individual. We had the principles to reach out to each other for guidance, assistance, and friendship. The hardest part of the job was getting people to be accountable. My staff was great, but dealing with outside practices was a little difficult. When conversations on the phone and emails didn't work, I had to go to upper management at the practice to get the issues resolved. I couldn't do my job accurately if there was no accountability on the other end to get my reports to me in a timely manner. The most enjoyable part of the job was what I did. I love the computer work. I enjoyed the scanning and updating medical records. I loved the people I worked with....I just truly liked what I did!! It was a very hard de
ProsBenefits, pay, location from my home (3 miles), people

No room for advancement, poor management, disrespectful culture
I enjoy working with my teammates and learning from their cumulative experiences. However, that is about the only positive thing going for this place. Leadership will tell you to not question their methods when problems affecting efficiency, quality and organization are brought up. Your degree and previous experience do not count for much here as you will not be paid what you’re worth - hence the high turnover rate and blatant disrespect that leaders have towards their teammates. I love what I do or I wouldn’t have continued working in my field. But the attitude is demoralizing and does not foster upward growth nor enthusiasm to perform at your best. If you’re looking for decent pay in the high cost Charlotte region, look somewhere else. You will be given false hopes for future raises and feel like chopped liver when you see them offering open positions drastically more than what you were hired for. While they preach LEAN and eliminating excessive waste, their methods are hypocritical. Your suggestions and common sense to most will be shut down firmly because your opinions do not matter. If you want to be a robot and work like a drone for less than mediocre pay (you can do a simple comparison search on what this company pays their employees against the national average) then this could be your favorite nesting place. But if you have any drive for advancing your career or having a meaningful purpose to your life, think carefully before wading in stagnant water.
ProsHealth plan (HSA incentives), PTO accrual, coworkers
ConsNo advancement opportunities, terrible management, demoralizing management, petty wages

I Very Much Enjoyed Working With Carolinas HealthCare System
Management was very good to me, appreciated the Quality Work I performed for them and I received many compliments, which I appreciated. A typical work day(on days) would be coming in at 07:00 and first call would be an OBGYN, 40 weeks pregnant, contractions 5 minutes apart, typical calls were Chest Pain, Stroke symptoms, Very Ill Pediatric Patients, also worked on nights, sometimes alone, had suicide calls which all calls needed quick thinking, complex reasoning ability, and calm, compassionate care. I really appreciated Nurses asking for my advice regarding a call on many occasions and respected most of them and enjoyed working with them. The hardest part of the job was having people who spent more time not working than working. The most enjoyable part was working with some good Nurses/People and knowing that You made a difference in someone's life. I learned to use my listening skills to a very high degree. Phone Triage takes a Certain type of Nurse because You cannot see the patient. I knew some Nurses, even from ICU say they would not do it because of the difficulty of not seeing patients. I enjoyed the combination of a Computer Triage Program(ie: Centramax) and using my Nursing Judgment, which I feel is the Best and most efficient Combination for Phone Triage .
ProsSet Working Hours, Different Shifts, People I worked With Including Doctors, (I made sure I had My Triage info Complete to Advise Physicians when I paged them, they appreciated this and treated me with alot of respect, Benefits.

Graphic Designer | Charlotte, NC | Oct 21, 2014
Highly productive workflow position with some great people. Providing education to the masses was enjoyable!
My position covered graphic design, photography and most recently, print production for 40 hospitals and 1,000+ medical practices. As a designer, I produced layouts and designs that educated the public, winning a few awards along the way. By offering in-house photography, our department (and system) was allowed to save tens of thousands of dollars by not utilizing outside sources. Photography appeared in annual reports to brochures. By handling and managing the print production for the system, I learned where I could be most efficient with costs, both in time and budget. I relayed this knowledge back to my team. My closest co-workers knew my style and approach and I knew theirs. We worked efficiently together and saw results. Deadlines were easy on most projects as we had clear lines of discussion. A somewhat difficult aspect of this position was the sheer volume at times. In the midst of recent healthcare changes, it created additional quick deadlines where designer, photographer and print production all came into play at once. It was a challenge and I loved it. I learned early on that this position of presenting information and educating the public was what I enjoyed. Layouts, photos and even public events were part of it.
ProsGreat work-sponsored events after hours, work incentives, great benefits, fun regional meetings, elective classes to excel
ConsTurnaround time on managerial decisions on creative

Best Place To Work
Carolinas HealthCare System is one of the nation's leading and largest healthcare providers with a high focus on patient-centered care. As a former and current teammate, I had the privilege of facilitating New Teammate Orientation for more than 17,000 new teammates over a five year period. Additionally, I had the honor of contributing to the design and implementation of a new and more engaging onboarding program for the System. CHS is certainly a Best Place To Work in that it places employee engagement at the center of every organizational goal with an understanding that without the people, patient care can not be achieved with excellence. The most rewarding part of my career at CHS was meeting new teammates each week and participating in their career transitions. From CNO's to front line teammates, I enjoyed having the opportunity to engage with each one. Additionally, as an Organizational Development Consultant, I had the pleasure of coaching and educating senior leaders and their direct reports on how to fully engage their teams by using behavioral assessments and other learning tools such as Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Johari's Window, Predictive Index, etc. My experience as a CHS teammate has been filled with educational opportunities. My learning opportunities ranged from patient access functions such as insurance verification and filing to how to apply adult learning principles into online learning platforms for teammates.

High volume of production work in a healthcare industry on the verge of major changes.
The day begins with the analysis and review of client login ID's created from a nightly feed from PeopleSoft into the Identity Mgmt System. Duplicate accounts are resolved, if found, and new account notification emails are sent to Department Managers. Procedures then turn to processing requests for user access to systems, the network and applications using multiple Administrative tools, such as Active Directory, MS Lync, Outlook 365 Exchange Admin Ctr, Tivoli Identity Management, GE Picture Perfect, PeopleSoft HRMS, PowerShell ISE and Service Desk Express. We are responsible to ensure the management of access is granted per security guidelines and in a timely manner. Customers are notified and provided assistance as needed for accessing the network. We are responsible for maintenance and accuracy of resource database information and development of training materials for both clients and teammates. We further provide on-call Tier-2 support for trouble calls from the Support Desk and resolve client access issues. Seven Analysts provide support for approximately 65K+ users. Hardest part about this job is not having enough hours in the day to process the volume of requests received. Most enjoyable part of the job is receiving customers thanks and praise.

ConsVery low Analyst to Client ratio

Employment seekers beware
Don't bother coming to Atrium. It's run by money-hungry individuals who receive 7 figure bonuses each year while their employees are hardly paid for the work they do. Compensation is low while responsibilities and demands on employees is very high. Many positions aren't paid enough for individuals to live in the area. There is very little room for growth and development, and this goes for all departments. I've been a part of the system for over 2 1/2 years while my father is a provider who has been with them almost 21. Neither of us like it, but it's all we've got for now. It's become far too much of a political business, making working here and it's so-called benefits worse for anyone who isn't among the top tier. The insurance they offer their employees has exorbitant deductibles and OOP maximums. They sweet talk about listening to their employees and making changes for their benefit, but it's just lip service. The changes that are coming are going to result in a lot of people leaving because those in charge are greedy and inconsiderate of those who are literally withering away by working here. The sooner I can get out of this company I will, and the same for my father. Atrium wants to take over the southeast, already with their claws heavily into NC, SC, and recently spreading into GA. Atrium isn't worth your time, your energy, and certainly not your life.

Toxic Workplace
I have never worked at a company with such poor management. The OR in One Day Surgery is toxic, draining, negative, and the cleanliness and sterility is subpar. At one point there was a cockroach infestation that went on for at least one month. The fix to the cockroach infestation was taping the drain in the ladies locker room so the cockroaches could not crawl out, which was done by an OR team member after someone found a cockroach in their locker. The ladies locker room consistently has broken and stopped up toilets, the sinks smell of sewer water, and countless times the water has been yellow or brown while washing our hands to return to the OR. Management is terrible, the insurance is nothing worth noting. There is such a low moral that you are consistently drained after leaving work. The case load compared to how we are staffed is incredibly high along with the complexity and high risk patients it is not safe to perform some surgeries so far away from life saving measures. We have no water dispenser for employees that does not taste of chlorine and chemicals. Any concerns brought to management about anything mentioned above is brushed under the rug. If you are reading this review before applying, do yourself a favor and choose a different Atrium facility or another local hospital.
ProsChick-Fil-A
ConsShort staffed, aforementioned cons above.
