Overall Reviews at American Eagle Outfitters

Great leadership, incentives, and opportunities
I enjoyed working with great leaders. There were many opportunities for promotion. The casual dress code and discount were great. I was able to work fairly independently, but my district manager was always available for support.
ProsCasual dress code and discount

Burn out faster than fuel
Just not my best experience ever. Certain managers played favorites through sucking up. Work culture could use some actual culture. Not my best employer.
ProsNothing. No overtime. They make you sign a waiver so don't have to pay overtime
ConsYou get written up for nothing.

Good people, no advancement, little pay
I enjoyed my job for a while when I thought there could be room to possibly move up but there really isn't. The company only has a few full-time management positions to move up into and if no one leaves or gets fired in one of those three positions you're not going anywhere! I ended up working 40 hours for no benefits and very little pay for the work I was doing. I enjoyed some of the people I worked with but that's really a store by store basis!
ProsGood people, great discount
ConsLittle pay, no room for advancement

Just avoid it
No matter what position you're in, or how long you've been there, management doesn't care in any store, compensation is less than paycheck to paycheck. its honestly embarrassing to make such little money and bend over backwards for them
Prosdiscount
Consshort breaks, little pay, no ability to grow

Good first job
The job itself is pretty easy, sell clothing and customer satisfaction mainly. I loved working here until my promotion only for the main fact that they cut my sales hours after discussing that that wouldn’t happen.

Casual/ Uncommunicative
The over all company is lacking: pay and benefits, strict schedules, employee appreciation, training ability, promotions…
Hiring is minimum wage and any chance of a raise there is clap back… not very communicative towards stores and expectations.
A few positives are working with energetic people, wearing casual clothing and being able to help dress/ sell to people.
ProsDiscounts on clothing, good team environment, able to meet new people
ConsTo focused on how much money they are bringing in, lack of appreciation, work crazy hours (clo-pens, sometimes over nights).

Retail while in college
I was able to work my way up the ladder, I originally loved my role but overtime working late nights and weekends started getting to me. The management that I worked with was very very well organized, I learned how to be a successful sales manager. The workplace is very inclusive. I chose to leave for personal reasons, but stayed employed with them for another year helping out with floor sets and shipment.
ProsDiscount, Friendships
Conslate nights, no social life, stressful

Productive and fun place to work
I was a sales associate, and would be in charge of folding merchandise, assisting customers, stocking items, and cashiering. I learned how to operate cashier systems, different fold types for clothing, and how to work in a setting that demanded teamwork 100% of the time. Management was very supportive, and was always there to help both employees and customers. The overall atmosphere in the store was great.

Awesome place to work
Love this place. Always something fun and exciting to do here. It is like a family. So many friends and opportunities for advancements. I would recommend this place to family and friends.

Not what it seems.
American Eagle tries very hard at being seen as an inclusive, caring work environment when it is in fact a place where you are forced to work unpaid overtime and endure bulllying from senior management. You are told one thing and then expect to do another. The district manager was incredibly rude - managers were uncomfortable asking questions and made to feel stupid. Manager turnover increased when she took over the district.
Prosco-workers, well-made product, pay, 3 weeks vacation time, sick time, benefits, small matched rsp
Consunpaid overtime, unrealistic expectations, lay-offs, bullying from corporate employees, unsupportive district manager.
